The Star have an exclusive out this Sunday morning saying that Newcastle are interested in signing 27 year-old Manchester City’s midfielder Fabian Delph, who since moving to City two years ago has had precious little playing time in the first team.
Over the last two seasons he’s appeared only 39 times with 4 goals – most of those being short sub appearances – and if the former Leeds United and Aston Villa star is to get his career back on track, he has to leave City this summer.
Manchester City manager Pepe Guardiola will have a huge clear-out of players this summer and Fabian is one of the players certain to be up for sale.
27 year-old midfielder Fabian Delph
We were linked with this player in the January transfer window and even a loan move for the rest of the season was mentioned, but it’s difficult to know if there was any truth to those rumors.
West Brom and Burnley are two other Premier league clubs said to be interested in this player.
Not unlike a number of English players who sign for Manchester City, Delph has played only rarely since he’s been at the Etihad Stadium.
It’s almost certain he will be allowed to leave the club this summer and that’s good for Fabian’s career, which has gone in the doldrums these last couple of years.
Fabian cost Manchester City £8M two years ago when he signed on from Aston Villa and maybe City would want less than that fee for the 9 times capped England International in order to get his wages off the books?
While at Aston Villa for six years before joining City he played 134 times with 8 goals and 8 assists.
Fabian is a good technical player and Rafa could certainly bring out the best in him, because this lad certainly has the skill and the ability.
He would be a decent enough signing for say £6M.
With Rafa wanting to strengthen most positions this summer we need to pick up a few bargain buys along the way and £6M for this player would seem like a good buy.
What do you think?
Comments welcome.

Comment #1Doesn’t seem like a lot of games for 6 years of playing…not many goals or assist as well….not sold on this lad, decent player just worry he’s an injury waiting to happen.

Comment #2An upgrade on Colback ,gouffy and possibly Anita, would be competition/replacement for Hayden and allow Shelvey further up the pitch.
I like Delph and for £6m in today’s market it’s a no brainer for us, although he would probably prefer west brom to be closer to family or burnley so he don’t have to move house………

Comment #4This guy’s career has stalled for some time at Man. City, as happens with so many talented players at our big four clubs.
He should welcome the chance to put it back on track under Rafa’s guidance.
For me, at 6 or 7 mill., get him quick.

Honest enough, and a Brit. But worry about lack of games and injury record
