ESPN FC are reporting that Newcastle will not lodge a bid for Arsenal left-back Kieran Gibbs – and their sources are said to be close to Newcastle United.
We thought the £15M fee Arsenal have placed on Kieran’s head was a bit much for a player who has only one year left on his contract.
But the news that was put out was that it had not put Rafa off and he would still go after the 27 year-old defender.
27 year-old Arsenal left-back Kieran Gibbs
But this report goes right against that and it seems sensible, because surely we can get a player of Kieran’s abilities for less than £15M?
The sources have told ESPN FC that the Magpies are unlikely to pursue any deal for the England international and the club are said to have switched their attentions to other targets – presumably because of that high fee.
Kieran has to leave Arsenal this summer to get his career back on track, but at least according to this report he will not be ending up at Newcastle United.
Wonder who we are after now?
What do you think?

Comment #4215 million does seem pretty steep to be honest. Would be a good signing though at a reasonable price.

Comment #43Jezza you must be smoking some good stuff if you think our current squad is acceptable and even if it would beat the drop. With our current squad we would be going down no doubt about it. If you think of the teams that went down last year tell me the players in our team that would get into thier first eleven? Not many apart from Shelvey, Richie and Gayle.

Comment #44@Jezza – think our squad is decent, but we got found out in a few areas towards last seasons end that need correcting…
1) Most of our attacks came down the right, with Ritchie contributing far more than the left side. Possibly due to the attacking fullback behind him creating width as he come inside. We need to address that and make the left more potent.
2) Stop shelvey and you stop Newcastle. We need another player in there, at number 10 perhaps who can create and play make. Cairney linked, would be ideal for me.
3) Striker – Murphy too old for this level, Mitro the man of a million chances and few goals, Gayle injury prone. Really we need a player who can do the Gayle role, stretching defences to relieve some of the burden from Gayle.
4) Anita and Gouff are off, both played a lot of minutes, need replacing.
5) Left sided CB… we looked diabolical at the back when clark was out..
Managers in the premier league are a lot more tactically astute than the championship, we do need to address these areas most importantly.
For me, it looks like we’re addressing this stuff pretty quickly…
Lejeune looks a done deal, similarly as does Abraham.
Starting to be linked with left backs now also…
My guess is the big money will be spent on a number 10…

Comment #46Just figured out you can heart yourself. It is a bit unfortunate that there is no bloody heart button because I more often would rather dislike my comments.

Comment #51G..I was reme mate that photo was Kosovo attached to 1 bn Royal Irish 1999.I know we wouldn’t find it easy with this squad I meant it’s not panic stations and with good investment were not too far behind the lesser clubs and with a greater coaching staff than most of them.

Comment #61Zekalea – I did this yesterday, it took me a while to realise you need get a new login for Gravitar WordPress as you can’t use the blog one. Assuming you have done this I think the Email arrived within about 5 minutes. If you can’t see it then chances are it has gone into your spam folder – worth checking.
