There’s news in Portugal media outlet A Bola today that Sporting Lisbon want a huge 50% of the sell-on fee for their young 23 year-old star Ruben Semedo and this could even end the deal that was verbally agreed by Newcastle with the Portuguese club.
There was news yesterday that one or two loose ends had still to be agreed on and one of them was the percentage of the sell-on fee – thought to be about 20%.
The fee of around £15M (this varies in reports) has been agreed so for example if Newcastle sell this player in the future for say £35M then Sporting would get half of the £20M profit – £10M.
23 year-old star Ruben Semedo – 50% sell-on fee demanded
That fee of 50% is a huge percentage for a sell-on fee.
The news in A Bola is that Newcastle have been stunned by Sporting’s demands and have literally been stopped in their tracks as they now have decide what action to take.
Whoever said signing players was easy these days?
Sporting are also requesting a £30M compensation fee if the center-back returns to a Portuguese club directly from Newcastle.
That seems much less of a problem for Newcastle – if the club sell the lad in the future they presumably just ensure he doesn’t return to Portugal.
It’s now possible that Newcastle could walk away from the deal unless Sporting come to their senses and reduce their stiff demands.
It will be interesting to see what the outcome of this is, always assuming this news is accurate.
What do you think?

Comment #8Don’t think this is true. If so NUFC or better put Rafa ain’t daft and will not agree to those terms. We really need a transfer breakthrough to kick start our signings.

Comment #9Move on to the next now if there playing silly games like this, personally I think there just stalling for time hoping someone else comes in with a bigger offer.
There are plenty of good defenders out there many offer better value than this.

Comment #10Of course you could argue how many defenders have we made a profit on so what does it matter?
That was a joke people – seriously I’d tell them to forget it.

If Kim Jong-May and her lying and nasty (nearly said nazi there) friends get anywhere near any more Brexit discussions, it’ll be a sad day for this fair land of ours.

Comment #13Lesh – just piss off to a Corbyn celebration of bullshit with the rest of the overpaid council “management” and education department types and keep your dopey political views off here – a football site – and no, I don’t vote Tory. I despise them as much as the terrorist-supporting mess that the Labour party have become
