The news today is that Newcastle are willing to double the wages Florian Lejeune is on at Spanish club Eibar, as we are trying to close the deal for our top center-back target this summer as quickly as possible.
But the Shields Gazette is reporting the deal could be delayed, because of internal things goings-on at the Spanish club.
The deal has reportedly been going well, but now there have been Boardroom elections at the club and new members have been elected to the board.
There are reports in Spain that this could delay any transfers at the club.
26 year-old Florian Lejeune of Spanish club Eibar
But the other even bigger news today is that there’s a Spanish report that Arsenal have entered the race for one of their long term targets – and if that’s true it could become difficult for Newcastle to get his deal done.
Spanish outlet Marca today reporting that Arsenal have made an enquiry about signing Lejeune, with Tottenham also credited with an interest in the player.
That’s one reason Newcastle have tried to move fast and tie up Lejeune, but if this news is accurate that Arsenal could now be actively pursuing the player, it could be bad news for Newcastle.
Once again Newcastle are trying to do the deal by offering the full amount – the release clause of £8.7M in Lejeune’s Eibar contract – up front in cool cash, but surely a club of Arsenal’s wealth can match that?
Maybe it’s just us, but if the Gunners are really after Lejeune, we could struggle to get this target through the door.
We need to nail some of these transfers quickly, so we can build up some momentum in the summer transfer market.
What do you think?

Comment #41Ive been watching the last couple of weeks with all this who’s coming and not coming lots of teams have got there targets signed up already on pre contract so don’t expect many decent players to be left we will probably get the left overs back in the sun with a cold beer on the island .

Comment #44Runaway – can you fill me in on who all these pre-contract players are at other PL clubs? I see that Man City have signed a few, Arsenal signed a new defender, we signed Atsu, Stoke signed Fletcher, but beyond those few there haven’t been too many announced. In fact we have already done more than most of the PL. Maybe all these teams are good at secrets or maybe they will start doing the real business on Saturday when the window opens, us included. I think I’ll wait and see what happens over the next couple weeks before voicing any frustration should there be any lack of activity. But I am hoping to be pleasantly surprised, and choose to stay positive. HWTL!

Comment #47Man City certainly have money to burn. They paid about £15m for Jesus Navas 4 years ago and now they have let his contract run out he can leave for free!
