Newcastle Reported Still Very Keen On Impressive French U21 Player

There have been various reports since around May 23rd that Rafa Benitez is keen to sign 18 year-old Yann Karamoh, who plays for Caen in the French League and can play on the wing or up front as a striker.

The teenager has been attracting attention from the likes of Monaco after having a really good season where he has appeared 36 times for the Caen first team in all competitions with 5 goals and 4 assists and he’s looked impressive.

The first report about Newcastle’s interest was in L’Equipe back on May 23rd and today the Shields Gazette are reporting Newcastle are still interested in signing the impressive teenager.

Yann Karamoh was born in the Ivory Coast but has been on the books of Caen since he was just 12 years old and he has so far played for the French U16, U17, U18, U19 and U21 teams scoring seven goals in his 21 youth team appearances so far.

Rafa Benitez and Newcastle are keen to bring in young players who could have big futures and have them coached on Tyneside and go through the ranks at the club – hopefully to the first team.

The Newcastle manager is putting a strong emphasis on bringing in (much) better young players than over the past ten years, when the club has struggled to bring young players through the ranks to become first team players.

Yann has also been unwilling to sign a new contract at Caen and his current contract lasts until the end of June next year and it could be that Caen will cash in on him this summer.

Karamoh  is reported to be a very good technical with considerable pace.

What do you think?

He did miss a headed chance which was a half chance but no player in the world converts every chance / half chance they get.

I wouldnt rush to sell mitro. He started off a bit unlucky with missed chances in a poor team and confidence suffered. However his record for his age is very very good and he can score goals. As a target man he is probably 7-10 years or so from his prime during which he will fill out and become more dominant. I would keep him around while we look for someone who can hit the ground running he gives us another option off the bench at least. Feel certain we would regret letting him go. Although sometimes it doesnt quite work out at a certain club for a player

He’s not going to play though and he will just get more frustrated he’s got a questionable attitude already can’t see him sticking in next season tbh

7 years to wait is too long for us

On the possible takeover or investment by a Chinese consortium. I am sure one of our fellow bloggers mentioned a while ago that for all Ash is not waiting each month for family allowance payments he is not ‘that’ cash rich. Yes he has figures showing he is a billionaire but mostly tied up in his businesses. So unless he sells them or shares in them he hasn’t got the ready to hand funds to splash the cash.

He has often said the club can have all ‘ club generated fund’s.

So could this be something Ash wants to help him out in financing the transfer targets rather than an all out sale ?

Makes a bit of sense as long as we don’t lose the name SJP to ‘The fun88 stadium’
