Newcastle fans have reacted on Twitter to the Premier League fixtures being announced at 9:00 am this morning and we have a fairly easy first six games or so, to hopefully get off to a very good start for next season.
The fans’ reactions are generally positive although December looks a bit of a tough month, with three trips to London, but hopefully we will be a well oiled machine by then.
Newcastle fans – seem to be happy with fixtures
We don’t seem to be playing Sunderland – oh I almost forgot – they were relegated last month.
🙂
Here’s some of the initial comments from our fans.
I think it’s a great start. Massive opportunity to build up some points before tough games start in second half of the season #Nufc

Must say, great fixture for #NUFC no easy games but have a chance to start with a bang ? and build momentum.

Three trips to London in December for #NUFC: Chelsea on Sat 2 Dec, Arsenal on Sat 16 Dec and West Ham on Sat 23 Dec

At least the opening game is at Home. The 5 games after Spurs is a decent run in. #NUFC
— James Denwood (@jamesdenwood_) June 14, 2017
At least we’ve got a home game. Would rather play the top six sides early before they get all their transfer business done too #NUFC

Knew we’d get another Boxing Day home fixture destined for TV coverage, hopefully Sky make it the early kick-off #nufc #PL

Spurs first game.. they’ll be out for revenge. Not many better teams to test ourselves against! #NUFC
— Pete Askew (@TV_Eyes) June 14, 2017
We don’t have 2 consecutive games against any of the top 6 six. Plus a home game to start and finish. Happy with that. #nufc

Fairly even fixtures all throughout. No tough runs. #NUFC

Comment #2I think we have to be pretty happy with those fixtures. Only three of the big teams to play in the first 14 games and only one of those games is away from home.

Comment #5As good a set of fixtures as we could have hoped for, I’m happy with that, ……..bring it on…….I just wish it was a little sooner and we had our team/squad settled in and hitting the ground running

With respect at the minute we’re debating whether to extend Gouffran’s contract or not.
The Chinese would put us on on a level we will never get with Ashley. I think a takeover now would be amazing.
Still 2 months to go till the new season and they’re hardly going to kick Rafa out. It would be shopping at Harrods with the Chinese, or staying at Asda with Ash. Trying not to get relegated which is where we are now with the current squad and some of the players we’re linked with, or pushing for Europe. Life’s too short, bring a takeover on.

Comment #7Think Goufran’s possible new deal depends on who Rafa able to get.Seeing
the transfer market become more competitive and difficult,Rafa may not get the players that he wanted. In that case,Goufran will be staying.I won’t be surprised if he ends up with the likes of McCarthy at the end and as a whole.

Comment #8I can’t understand why people think Rafa would be pushed out if the take over goes ahead. He’s a world class, champions league winning manager. He’s one of only 3-4 CL winners currently working in England and the only current one in England to win it with an English team. Not only that but he’s won at least one trophy at nearly every club he’s been at.

Comment #9Feel that we have a pretty decent fixture list actually.
I’m going to say that Man U is the first game that I expect us to lose. We’ll definitely lose in the run up to that game but I can’t predict who against because I reckon we’ve got a good fighting chance against all those teams.
Spuds and Liverpool are massive, difficult games BUT they’re at home so I think there is a good fighting chance there. You’ve got to think about the other factors at play other than that they’re really good teams.
For example, I reckon fans can play a massive part against the Spuds due to them being the last team we played in the PL and the first since coming back. Some will claim that they’ll be ‘up for revenge’ but I’m not too sure about that given that a whole season has gone by since that match. This match is bigger to us than it is to them.
Barring 2013, we seem to have a decent home record against Liverpool too and I reckon Rafa will be confident in his ability to set up effectively against them.
The other home games I would be very disappointed to not win.
Barring Southampton and possibly West Ham, I’d be disappointed if we don’t leave with all the points from the away games too.
Odds are, we’ll lose some matches unexpectedly BUT I’m very optimistic about this start. We just need to get some decent players in and be ready in time.

Comment #13Pootle2118 – I agree with you about the manager – who would you get that was better?
However if it was a Chinese consortium I could envisage us with a couple of Chinese players in the squad for obvious reasons – hopefully these would not be forced on Rafa and pee him off!.

And, it’s a pity that the media’s speculating about a takeover/ investment. There’s a danger we could lurch from being strong and stable under Rafa to stuttering and tumbling – stumbling.
Mmmm, stumbling reminds me of someone…..

Comment #17Have to admit I had to google Anita but recognised the photo when it came up.
People’s main fear seems to be that new owners would dispense with Rafa. Just can not see that being the case. Surely Rafa is a ”wow factor” that would draw new owners in, rather than your pardews, Carvers and McLarens.

Comment #18Before we start boasting about how many points we will get from our first 6 games we need to bring in some quality, and fast. Even the likes of Burnley and Stoke are better than us, so a whole new spine of the team is needed just to compete against some of the weaker teams in this lge. The clock is ticking.

I was thinking the same about the Spurs opener. Beaten 1 nil on our PL debut game home to spurs in ’93 if memory serves me right, a ding dong game which we narrowly lost and had people sit up and take notice. I also recall we finished 3rd that season too???
Its all finally hitting home that we are back with the big boys after the fixtures came out!

Yes still recall it
Think it was the first game proper with roof on the leazes again ( when it was still sub 40,000 ) but the noise was incredible .
Think we won at Sheffield Wed the next game but my fav game that year was when we blew Liverpool away with snow coming down and Cole got a hatrick .
Think we shocked most ” expert pundits” that year .

Reckons we are in good hands with RAFA, stated RAFA has been preparing for the window for ages and given Rafa’s connections throughout the world we will be ready for the season starting.
Maguire 17 million to Leicester ! If that’s the yardstick we are going to need a Chinese consortium !

Comment #29In regards to the take over talk
I was informed by a friend of mine at the end of last season that a deal had been signed to sell the club.
To quote, ”it’s a done deal”
I wasn’t so sure, and then the news broke the other day that Cashley was talking with possible investors.
Not only that, its been mentioned that Mike Ashley mentioned to Rafa in their end of season meeting that he was speaking to possible investors.
Which fits perfectly in line with what my mate was saying.
Don’t be too surprised if this is ”late news” coming out, and everything has already been signed, sealed and we are soon to receive the delivery.

That’s not a bad set of fixtures to be honest. You’d take a draw in that first game. The next five are all winnable.
