The reports today are that Newcastle are very busy trying to sign Porto striker Vincent Aboubakar, who spent last season on loan at Besiktas in Turkey.
There’s a report out today in the Star that Newcastle are very close to signing the 25 year-old Cameroon international in what seems like a reasonable £9M deal.
Aboubakar spent last season on loan at Besiktas and the Turkish League Champions are very keen to keep him at the club.
So there will be competition for the Magpies from Besiktas, with club official Metin Albayrak having said they have entered into formal talks with Porto over the sale of the striker.
This is what Albayrak has said in Turkish-Football today:
“We want Aboubakar and have entered talks, there are lots of rumours but our negotiations are continuing.”
It’s not surprising the famous Istanbul club want Aboubakar to stay after he helped them win the Turkish League last season with 19 goals in 38 total games for the club on loan.
But the news we heard yesterday was that Besiktas cannot compete with Newcastle’s financial muscle for both the fee or his compensation, but they can offer the player Champions League group stage football for next season.
Newcastle are said to be in advanced talks with the player’s reps so let’s hope we can do the deal, especially since Tammy Abraham has decided to join Swansea on loan.
It would be a great time to sign him and soften any blow that Abraham doesn’t want to come to the Tyneside club.
Vincent signed for Valenciennes in Ligue 2 in 2010 from Cameroon club Coton Sport and he stayed there for three years before moving to Lorient in 2013, before finally moving to Porto one year later.
While at Lorient he scored 17 goals with 8 assists in 36 appearances and while at Porto he’s scored 26 goals in 62 total appearances with 7 assists.
Aboubakar has 57 caps for Cameroon with 17 goals and he was the hero in January when he scored the winning goal in the final against Egypt after 88 minutes as Cameroon win the African Cup of Nations beating Egypt 2-1.
He would be a great signing for us – especially for £9M.
Comments welcome.

Comment #41Ron Knee – Apparently that feature will be in the next update. I’ve also noticed that if you look at an old blog (one before the new look) you can’t see the comments at all!

U reckon Boro will bounce straight back up? I dont see it mate I think they will lose a fair chunk of their defense, they dont have much in way of creativity and Monk just isnt a very good manager imo

Comment #49Ron, numbering the comments would seem the simplest solution.
Some abbreviate the username they are responding to as in EGB ~ Essex Geordie Bill. ToonTaff2 ~ TT2 – though that may not be the best route.

Comment #50WWSBRD, that’s not like you to disagree mate! 🙂 Seriously though, I think if they keep most of what they’ve got they’ll be fine. Gibson will back Monk – he backs all his managers after all – and this double bounce might be the long term plan of many clubs now. Burnley did it and survived second time round. Get the money from the PL, relegate, use that money to strengthen and then come a second time even stronger. Don’t think it’s a deliberate ploy, but for clubs smaller than ours it makes sense.

We need to restore the numbers to avoid confusion, especially if someone has posted more than once on the same thread – which often happens!

Comment #53Martoon, long way for a derby innit? 🙂 This is what makes me laugh about other clubs who fail to sell out their allocation at SJP. They complain it’s a long journey, but forget every away game we play is a long journey regardless of where it is. When Burnley is your closest game that says it all. Then there’s the repeated long trips to London, Bournemouth and Southampton etc. At least they only have to do it once!

Comment #54With all these constant new rumours linking us to players no one’s ever heard of, am I the only one who forgoes the rigours of YouTube scouting and just makes a stab at judging someone’s quality by looking at a picture of his face? It’s a technique I use during high-profile murder and rape cases, and it normally works quite well.
Based on the current crop of links, I’d note the following:
Lejeune – passing resemblance to Toby Alderwerield; could be decent.
Acquah – looks like he could actually be involved in a high-profile murder case. Probable liability.
Aboubakar – slightly Bramblesque features; potentially hapless figure of fun.
Admittedly this approach can turn out a few duds. I was convinced Adam Campbell was the next big thing, mainly on account of a steely glint in his eyes and his perfectly round head.

Haha world would be boring if we all agreed tbf
If they keep what theyve got and add to it maybe but I think they will lose Gibson theyve already lost Chambers and last I saw Ayala was likely to leave though that might of changed. And its rare that a team goes down then comes straight back up (rather been banged home while we were down there)
Downing was a big part of them coming up last time as well and hes done surely and that fast lad will leave surely? Someone will take a punt on him ud imagine so not much creativity from what I can see but I might be wrong they might fly up..wouldnt be in my pick for promotion though (have to consider the Monk bottling affect as well)

Comment #67Jazzy, cheers mate, it is a great relief. I’d virtually accepted quazimodo was my go to fancy dress figure, as I was getting more and more hunch backed as time progressed. To suddenly be able to stand up virtually straight out of the blue like that is amazing. I have absolutely no idea what’s happened and frankly, I don’t care. Surgeon said that beside the extremely risky operation, there was nothing more they could do, so you can imaging how elated I am. I was half expecting to wake up today back to how I was, but no, I’m still an upright citizen. Which on its own is a first! 🙂

Comment #71I’ll happily sign up for another ten years as well if the offer comes out. I’m paying ten percent less for my ST now than I was when the deal came out, due to the ten percent reduction we got when we got relegated. Can’t imagine another club in the country where fans are paying less than seven or eight years ago.

Where you sit mate?? And is the view any good.
I’ve been platinum ,Formerly all milburn for 20 odd year but it’s getting well expensive. And the atmosphere ain’t what it use to be as there seems to be different faces at every home game.
Keep looking at where Shirebrook has gone but never been in Gallowgate

Comment #76I’m level four in the sir John Hall Corner. Get the lift up, park my chair near the hot dog stand and then get helped up to my seat. I’m in the front, where there’s four odd seats right at the end of the walkway. Because the walkway ends, they put four seats right at the end. Perfect for me because you’ve got the full walkway’s worth of legroom to stretch your legs out.
Excellent view as well. There are safety barriers, which technically are in your view, but it’s no problem. All four seats, are taken up, but there are a few around me, which don’t have the safety barrier issue. I say issue, but it’s not really, you just move your head to one side. 🙂 I love it because I can stretch my legs out.

Comment #78Jazzy, I’ve sat virtually everywhere in the ground at one time or other and the view is good from anywhere really. Gallowgate is the place for the noise. We do our bit as well like. I’m sat virtually in line with the Leazes goal, looking at it side on, and have a great view of the goals.
Last season I lost my seat to to a mix up, because I needed someone with me and they have to sit next to you. Couldn’t get the swap organised in time, but the lad swapped all season anyway so I still sat there. Which means seat C6 or 7 will be available this season if you’re on your own.

Comment #79jazzyp – I’m in the Sportsbar in the Leazes – it is worth considering because it is cheaper than the platinum but there is a bar with Skysports etc. (2 actually) and you can order half time drinks etc. All ST so the same faces around me. Also Mrs martoon prefers the toilets there!
