The Coming Week Is Shaping Up To Be Critical For Newcastle

Newcastle have still only signed one player – Christian Atsu – this summer and it will be critical that we sign say three more players before preseason starts in 9 days time.

This is not dissimilar to last year, when we signed Matz Sels on July 29th the day after  preseason started and then Dwight Gayle and Matt Ritchie both were signed in the next couple of days – two Premier League players.

It seems Rafa and Lee Charnley had set that up so they signed the players for a full preseason of training to get our new players into the swing of things.

There are clear signs Rafa and Lee are also lining up players to sign next week.

Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez

The news today is very good on 26 year-old center-back Florian Lejeune with the signing said to be imminent in the Spanish press.

And we have been linked with lots of players last week with deals said to be close.

Players include the likes of Fernando of Manchester City, Vincent Aboubakar of Porto, Pepe Reina of Napoli and central midfielder Romulo from Hellas Verona to name just four who could come in very soon.

So we are certainly no worse off then we were last summer at this time and Rafa and Lee Charnley working together have shown they can get deals done – and good deals too.

Yes, Rafa is after some good players, but he doesn’t like paying over the odds for them either.

The good news yesterday was that it looks like we are close to getting Manchester City’s Fernando fin or a very decent £5M after City initially wanted £10M a few weeks ago.

The reports are that Newcastle are very close to doing a deal for Fernando for £5M and the player is reported to be keen to arrive on Tyneside.

So if we can three or four players in by July 3rd or July 4th we would still be in very good shape.

Let’s hope that’s exactly what happens, with Rafa and Lee having to close some deals after enquiring about many players over the last several weeks.

The table below is what Newcastle have done in the transfer market so far, with news today that Haris Vuckic has joined Dutch club FC Twente on a three year deal.

Newcastle should get some compensation for Haris who came through the Newcastle Youth Academy even though he is now a free agent.

Great things were expected from Haris when we signed him as a 16 year-old in January,  2009 from Slovenian club Domzale, but it wasn’t to be.

Newcastle have now moved seven players out and brought one player in so far this summer.

We need to spend most of the money on 2 top attacking midfielders. Ideally a winger and number 10. fernando for 5m, Lejene for effectively 3m if Hanley is sold leaves us 60 odd million still so would be happy enough to spend 15-20 million on 2 decent attacking players and another 20 to get a few realisable experienced cheap players

Would be nice to get 3 in, but it’s a far cry from being critical, I’d reserve that particular word for the unwashed down the road!
I think most if not all on here have complete faith that Rafa knows exactly who he wants in. He’s probably also presented a wishlist of who he’d prefer, based on increased spending capital from player sales or and additional investment from our potential far eastern benefactors.

With this existing squad they will be cannon fodder against the top teams in the premiership.
Come on Rafa get your finger out.
Still need to sign 7 players.

If it wasn’t one of the Jones boys, it had to be a Williams 😮

We are quoted as having made £40m clear profit from player sales including Sicksoandso, during the last summer window and spent nothing in the winter one. A further £7.1m for winning the Championship and an estimated £8m per year sponsorship from FUN88.
So as a rough estimation if we get no additional funding Rafa has a measly £55.1m + player sales to play with. Peanuts compared to the top teams, not a lot compared to those in the also ran group and probably a bit behind those who’ll be battling relegation next year. Maybe only BHA and Huddersfield will have less to spend. It is therefore highly unlikely any English players will be bought unless their contracts are up. Additionally whilst being linked with £18m midfielders and £30m strikers, unless some major investment comes our way, they will remain merely pipedreams sadly.

I am fairly sure Lucas is available for free. Although, if there is competition for him, the signing on fee could get as high as £4 million, I suspect.

I remember Lucas as being rather injury prone, but his apps for Liverpool are quite high – after a quick glance.

switch, £55 million sounds ambitious to me. Some player sales are in installments. Sissoko’s yearly installment has essentially been spent on Atsu. My guess is the kitty is closer to £30 million. Selling another 3 players on installments could get the kitty up to around £40 million.

The debate about how much we have to spend is very relevant. Gone are the rumours of bids going in for 20M for players. Now its bids for less than 10M. I think its plain to assume that Ashley has,nt changed one bit , and that he is still a greedy fat cockney git.
Rafa obviously has the confidence that he can still build a competitive team on a small budget, and i think the fact that he now has full control of in coming players now Carr has gone . that was the main issue for me.
Im very disappointed with the budget Rafa has to work with, assuming it is around 40M. Basically he has been given nothing of the bumper sky money which every team is expected to receive in the prem.
A leopard never changes his spots, and we were foolish to think otherwise.

I can see a fair few players going to fund recruitment. 3 keepers, 2 centre backs, a lb, dm, am, 2 strikers and that’s just the outgoing. Darlow, Krul, Sels, hanley, Mbemba, Haidara, colback, diame, Riviere and probably mitro.
    Oh saivet as well.

We might get 30 to 40 million for those lot. If Ashleys smart he’d put funds in to about that tune to get things moving. He’s not protecting his investment by making rafa work to a shoe string budget.

    40 mill parachute
    7 for championship
    8 from fun88
    Whatevers due from installments.
    10 from touvan
Plus whatever we sell if payed upfront

I still believe we have money to spend.
This week should see a couple join us.
    No need for panic.

65 million ok. That’s atsu, lejeune -14.2million so down to 50.8 million. If we are looking at players costing an overage of 10 million each we have 5 signings plus whatever we make from outgoings.

Thinking about it this bus get fits with the rumoured 8 players if you take an average of 10 million per player. If we sell 30 million worth of players that’s the 8 players sorted.
I hope rafa can build a proper squad. He’d be dangerous with proper options to choose from.

The less we spend on players the more we can spend on the key players.
