We have read the article in the Mail today about Rafa maybe wanting to leave Newcastle and it’s by Rob Draper and it’s quite a short article.
It basically says that Rafa is frustrated that we have lost out on a number of transfer deals and we have only one player through the door so far – Christian Atsu.
We fully believe Rafa is frustrated – much like the rest of us.
But then Draper goes on with a “therefore” which is completely non sequitur – and it’s that Rafa is thinking about leaving the club because of the situation.
Rafa Benitez – maybe he’s just doing his job?
We don’t think that has any truth to it whatsoever.
Fans and journalists have to remember that Rafa is extremely ambitious and he wants things done right – this summer like last summer he wants players in as early as possible as he changes the team for the second summer running.
And if Rafa doesn’t get what he wants then he tries to fix things – he doesn;t sit back and do nothing.
Take this as Rafa knowing there’s something wrong and wanting to fix it very quickly with Lee Charnley and/or Mike Ashley.
The good thing about Rafa is if things are not going well he doesn’t accept it – he doesn’t accept mediocrity.
That’s the sign of a manager who’s won three European titles with three different clubs and wants to win more as the Newcastle United manager.
We even take all this as positive and if we can get three players through the door by a week tomorrow – all will be well.
Here is a wide range of good views from the Geordie fans of the Rafa situation this morning.
There’s no need to worry – think of it as Rafa doing his job – and that we’re still not used to having a world-class manager with such very high standards.
🙂
If Rafa does walk away, then he will have the blessings of all #NUFC fans.

When Rafa hasn’t taken summer holiday, irrespective of #NUFC history of signing players ie July afterwards, it is very nervy to hear these!

Time will come when Rafa’s sacked or leaves. Let’s wait until then to worry about it instead of living it hundreds of times over. #nufc

Get the feeling we might see some incoming transfers next week. No big drama……yet. #nufc

Absolutely nowt in this supposed #nufc story. Frustration in lack of transfers yes… that’s everyone at the minute. Walking away no.

Where is all the conte is frustrated stories, or wenger, or pulis, or howe or klopp, theyve all made 1 signing or less #nufc

Ritchie and Gayle signed on July 1. We then signed 9 more players. 3 players dropped from Prem to Champ to play for us. We’ll recruit #NUFC

Every manager wants an unlimited transfer budget and deals done swiftly but that doesn’t always happen. The press are the pits #nufc

This is why Rafa is great for #nufc, he will always push for improvements in every aspect of the club. Club need to match his ambitions

No panic here Already. Trust Rafa to make the right decisions #Nufc

Penfold missed out on that deal, best off sticking with playing a straight bat and getting some transfers in.

Comment #4Hughes may not have been pulling up trees for Derby but 8m for a young Englishman who can play with both feet would have been worth a gamble.
Would only have to make 20 or so premier league starts to make him worth 15m+
He would do better than everything we’ve got in that role.
I still have the faintest glamour of De Jong hope

Comment #7Hughes signing for Watford for anything between £4-8 million is a steal imo. Hasn’t hit the heights at Derby since he came back from injury however it was a nasty injury he suffered and there has been too much upheaval at Derby for him to settle back.
Think at that price we have missed out on something who can provide competition and back up for Shelvey since we have nobody of similar ilk.

Comment #12Slow news day/nothing new to report from the Mghty Magpies = Rafa’s gonna quit. Typical headline grabbing non-story.
Writing stories about NUFC will always sell papers, whether they’re accurate or in this case complete fiction.

Comment #13Hughes???! You must be joking! We need better than that. We’ve got plenty Championship players and the whole point in the transfers is to get PL quality in. For this Rafa will be looking abroad or else older PL players!
