French newspaper L’Equipe are reporting that Newcastle United are interested in signing 20 year-old Rennes striker Adama Diakhaby.
In 29 games last season the young striker scored 5 goals and Rafa Benitez is said to be one of the managers interested in recruiting the 2 times capped French U21 International this summer.
20 year-old Rennes striker Adama Diakhaby
Last season was the first time the youngster played for the Rennes first team.
Born in France, Adama is of Senegalese descent and he can therefore play for either France or Senegal at the senior International level.
The report in L’Equipe is that Newcastle United ‘could’ make an offer for the young Rennes striker in the ‘coming days’.
So how’s that for some real certainty?
Diakhaby is left footed and is versatile in that he can play out on the wings or up front as an out-and-out striker.
Rafa is always looking for good young players to bring into Newcastle and if this player was signed by the Magpies he could well be initially part of Peter Beardsley’s Development squad.
What do you think?
Comments welcome.

Comment #1Finally, a newspaper report based only on facts. Newcastle certainly ‘could’ do numerous things in the ‘coming days’.

Comment #2Apart from the young lad from Chelsea there is absolutely nothing on sky sports about Newcastle. Either they have no idea who we’re after or we’re doing nothing

Is Ashley really interested in buying anyone? Not if he can avoid it!

Comment #4I’ve been against this emphasis on a new keeper, but I’m beginning to see it.
If we end up signing no one else, we’re going to need a keeper at Buffon’s level 😉

Comment #5The Club’s financial year ends on 30 June and it’s likely that Ashley and his place-man, Barnes, will be keen to have the accounts look good to potential investors.
Can we therefore expect any signings from July 1st?

Comment #6Rafa won’t be advertising who were after , we don’t do bidding wars for players so imho, they have no clue who were after and with nothing coming out of the club, neither do any of the red tops or broadsheets.
Rumour and speculation, once players agents get a sniff of a possible move they are the ones more than likely who are generating these links, trying to create interest in their player, then there are the selling clubs asking an agent to drum up interest in their player by mentioning x club are interested or y club have had initial offers turned down……it’s a dodgy world we’re living in where fairytales, lies and subdifuge are prevalent ,truth honesty and facts are poor bedmates for the footballing world in general.
We’ll know soon enough though, times a ticking and the start of pre season is but a whisker away

It certainly is a dodgy world we live in, I don’t think other clubs use us to drum up interest in players. We are cheapskates and why use a club like us who have zero ambition under Ashley when they could use many others.
How do we know we aren’t low balling clubs with poor offers so it can be leaked that we are actually after players to appease fans?

Comment #13That’s the point. We don’t know anything. Apart from what people make up. It’s all speculation. People just can’t wait to stick the knife in. Rafa gets back today if I’m not mistaken. Maybe now we’ll hear something, although he’s not likely to advertise it. We’ve got less money than other clubs, who get the big PL payment, so he’s got to be shrewd. Just let him get on with his job in his own time. I don’t actually expect a signing until the new financial year begins at the club. Of course that’s speculation as well, albeit based on something.
We had similar meltdowns last season when signings were slow. We also had the same ‘Rafa will walk’ scare stories that came to nothing. Deep breaths. All will be well, or it won’t. Worrying won’t change anything.

Comment #14So Rafa future was just him putting pressure on Newcastle to stop letting his work go to waste again…second time in 6 months, wonder how many more times this will happen before tgeres a breaking point
Ah well hopefully it works this time and there’s some significant improvement over this week either in the squad or the sale of the club

Comment #17Our Toon, a lot of us know that until a player is stood in SJP/Benton wearing the Toon top, the rumours and links are pointless. Certainly, these stories are clearly not appeasing fans -to the contrary, they’re winding many up!

Comment #18A cynical person might say the outgoings but only 1 previously agreed signing suggests a sale of the club rather than a recruitment drive.
Not panicking but why do we always make things so painful. Surely not every signing we make is this drawn out.
I will be gutted if west ham land iheanacho and we haven’t even tried. The boy is so underated.
My feeling is this. If we don’t see signings by or on july 1st then it’s because we are either penny pinching again and not offering enough for players or there is a sale being negotiated so signings being lined up but not paid for until new regime in place to do so. The latter is looking more and more likely. What with thd ronnie saying we’ve had a defender, midfielder and striker lined up for weeks.
Fingers crossed this all ends well…48 days and counting.

Comment #22Rafa’s been spending some rare time with his family. So unless during that family time he’s been briefing the Daily Mail, a paper not welcome at SJP, then chances are the story is pants. As usual when it comes to the press and NUFC.
Until I hear from Rafa that he’s ready to walk, I’m simply not believing it. Yes, I am fully aware that Ashley could mess it up, but I’m equally aware that we’ve heard the same bullshyt stories about him walking four or five times now without merit.
He’s back at work (is that right) today and Penfold apparently told Tudor expect signings Wednesday. Time will tell.

Comment #25To be fair, not many clubs around us seem to be doing all that much business either.
Its a funny window in the sense that the numbers going around make no sense… 17m for McGuire but only 8m for Robertson? 40m+ for perisic and 70m for Morata but will hughes is only valued at 5m?
30m for Pickford… Its all crazily random and seems a bit frenzied.

If Semedo agent is to believed and the selling club Lisbon, we apparently got out bidded by 1m euros after the deal went through for him

Comment #28Hopefully this is the week we’ll see a bit of non fake movement on the transfer front. The sheer number of players we are supposed to be interested in has been ridiculous and really not worth commenting upon. However, worried fans/anxious fans are well within their rights to express concern – without being labelled as “anti- club”.
My wild guess is that it is shaping up to be a window of “never heard of players”. Hope I’m wrong but that is my “wild guess”.
Also we do have a history of being skinflints/penny pinchers – same suspects are all still in position.

Yeah mate first window was ‘what Rafa wants Rafa gets’ last one was string him along he’ll get by and this one is yet to be decided. Could be Rafa just putting it out there that he won’t have what happened in Jan happen again so he’s getting in early or there could be more too it
Can’t blame Carr this time though wonder who Ashley can hide behind this time

Comment #37Martoon, not sure it was a joke mate. Need him to confirm it. It would make sense though, Rafa back in place.
Either way, I don’t get the panic. We go through this time after time and it gets monotonous. Every time there’s potentially a hiccup, the blog goes into meltdown and Rafa’s packed his bags. It makes Rafa sound like a right mardy ass. Which, of course, he isn’t. If there’s a problem, he’ll fix it because that’s his job. He’ll be fully aware of exactly where we are on transfers but won’t come out and say anything that might put a spanner in the works. And there’s certainly no shortage of spanners! 🙂

Why would an agent lie after the deal has gone through? What has the agent got to gain from this? Rumours also of Lisbon changing terms of the deal wanting a sell on clause
If it was released prior to the deal going through I’d be more inclined to disbelieve it

Comment #39I’m not a regular poster, but I do read the blog a lot, and some people need to relax.
A lot of folk seem to be glass half empty and jump on the negative. Someone on here said something last week which has interested me, something about the signings keeping quiet and then several being announced together, which helps morale for the newbies as they integrate together.
That got me thinking, with the twitter activity that went on recently with on of our ”linked” players.
Hypothetically, what if, in the contract, it is stated that all parties involved must not mention the signing of said contract, or movement of a player, until NUFC break the news. It’s certainly a possibility.
I’m not worrying, the transfer window isn’t even technically open yet(worldwide).
Who predicted ANY of the signings we made last summer? I know there was a list published a while back and it was something like 3 out a billion players the papers linked us with were correct.
As we all know from recent years, the papers have agendas and take sides. I don’t trust a word I read in them, especially toilet papers like the Sun, Daily Mail, Daily Star etc.
Relax, Rafas at the Helm.

Rafa has walked away from clubs when he’s not got what he wanted, he’s to good to stick around taking rubbish, he’s got a Stella name and to much pride to do a pards and toe the party line. He’s not mardy but knows what he needs
