French newspaper L’Equipe are reporting that Newcastle United are interested in signing 20 year-old Rennes striker Adama Diakhaby.
In 29 games last season the young striker scored 5 goals and Rafa Benitez is said to be one of the managers interested in recruiting the 2 times capped French U21 International this summer.
20 year-old Rennes striker Adama Diakhaby
Last season was the first time the youngster played for the Rennes first team.
Born in France, Adama is of Senegalese descent and he can therefore play for either France or Senegal at the senior International level.
The report in L’Equipe is that Newcastle United ‘could’ make an offer for the young Rennes striker in the ‘coming days’.
So how’s that for some real certainty?
Diakhaby is left footed and is versatile in that he can play out on the wings or up front as an out-and-out striker.
Rafa is always looking for good young players to bring into Newcastle and if this player was signed by the Magpies he could well be initially part of Peter Beardsley’s Development squad.
What do you think?

Ashley is at the helm not rafa, that’s where the issue is. If this was under any other owner I would be happy to sit back and see what transpires, I think ppl forget that rafa can only point out who he wants, he can’t sign the cheques or negotiate fees etc.
As I say hopefully we have movement this week but it’s not been a good start to the window which actually opened on 9th June for premier league clubs. I wanted new players to be here in time for pre season training as it’s really important for intergrating into the team, style, surroundings etc.

Comment #44Ashley’s fixer is here because Ashley either wants to sell up or bring in some extra money. It’s what this guy does from what I can gather. Bit hey! One thing Rafa has said, is that it won’t effect transfers – and that’s from the horses mouth.
People are just searching desperately to find fault. It’s like they’re willing it to go tits up, which is bizarre imo.
I’ll come by later to see if anything else has gone wrong! 🙂 There’s enough to be concerned about without making stuff up.

The only person to blame for the mistrust is Ashley though and his previous actions. You stated that you believe Ashley when he said he’s taking a back seat I can’t trust the bloke no matter what he says.
What’s to be concerned about though m as you’ve been telling me we have nothing to be concerned about

Comment #48Bobbybee – I normally agree with you on most NUFC things but I honestly don’t think Tudor was talking to Penfold in Greggs 🙂
I agree with others I think this could be a pivotal week on transfers – it makes sense to time arrivals for the start of July when players are back in training and presumably the rest of the staff i.e. coaches, medical staff etc. are also back at work!

Comment #52Our Toon – I agree with what your saying. But for me, I think the papers are just stirring the big wooden spoon. Newcastle has been a laughing stock of a club since Ashley took over. The media have had a field day.
But it looks as though that may have changed, and now they are sat twiddling their thumbs, I mean, Sunderland aren’t even worth reporting about, so the papers have to fill their pages with something. And what better than conjure up lies about our beloved Toon.
Im not worried about Rafa leaving, if the day comes when that happens, I will be extremely sad. As a fan base we deserve better than what has been served in the past 10 years, but if Rafa walks due to Ashley, he will get his comeuppance, and it wont be pretty.

Comment #54Make no mistake, Benitez is spinning plenty of plates as he bids to make the high calibre additions that will lift both Newcastle’s level and send a message to the players that there is work to do if they’re going to manage the serious step-up in quality that promotion brings. But that is Benitez not the Board that is trying to take Nufc forward.
There is no evidence as yet that anything has changed within the club,But if this window can follow the one from last season then i am sure we would all be happy , Be it a better standard of player of course.
Last summer Newcastle United made signings on the following dates:
29 June – Matz Sels
1 July – Dwight Gayle
1 July – Matt Ritchie
8 July – Jesus Gamez
11 July – Isaac Hayden
21 July – Grant Hanley
2 August – Ciaran Clark
2 August – Mohamed Diame
23 August – DeAndre Yedlin
27 August – Achraf Lazaar
27 August – Daryl Murphy
30 August – Christian Atsu

Comment #55@martoon: you’re right in saying that Tudor was lying about seeing Penfold in a Greggs. He would never be seen in Greggs – it was Milligans next to Percy House.
Much more a becoming establishment for a character like Penfold.

Comment #57People need to chill the hell out regarding transfers. Most players and managers are on holiday still and hardly any other clubs are doing big amounts of business. The signings will come, why don’t people go and enjoy their summer instead of panicking on here like little kids who cant wait for Christmas.

Comment #58Just seen someone comment on twitter that lack of signings before July could be down to financial fair play for last season?
If I’m honest I’m not worrying too much yet, got a feeling the only player we’ve missed out on properly is Tammy Abraham and that was for non financial reasons. Apparently we’ve missed out on Delph to stoke too but again, it’s because he doesn’t want to move house or his kids out of schools etc
Think this market, especially where we are will need a couple moves to start the merry go round. A lot (well all) players will be on holiday at the moment as pre seasons don’t really start till July.
Worth noting we do have like 36 first team players, all on first team wages that will need to go first. Riviere, Saivet etc all on north of 35k per week

Aarrghh our famous 5-6 year contract policy coming back to bite us in the arse.
We will definitely struggle to move these failures on, And the only way to free up first team space is by shipping these lads out on loan again.
I think I read somewhere regarding the Belgian league, Players average around 650k a year compared to around 2-3 million a year..Hence the trouble selling players back due to massively high contracts offered in the PL

Comment #66Rafas not daft he knows what he’s doing when we sign people it’ll be executed fast and swiftly and we will have hardly been linked with the player, people just got to chill and see what transpires hardly any other prem clubs have made many signings snd if they have its crazy money. I think we’ll see a few leave first before we start to sign, am not convinced we are going to sign another keeper i reckon krul might get at least a pre season to prove himself same for de jong, they might be like new signings…………

Comment #69For me the significance of not having signed players is showing more what is happening behind the scenes and the direction we are headed in terms of transfer policy far more than some panicked hissy fit over things not happening quickly.
I’m yet to see anything concrete to show if the club is or is not going to be sold in this window.
Rafa will want the level of quality raised all over the park, I want to see evidence of that.
Time will tell but I imagine for most fans like me it’s like watching paint dry waiting to see that evidence.

Comment #79hate the cliché they might be like new signings bit but in certain players that just might be true.
I don’t think Krul will be rafas cup o’ tea, if he wants a keeper with distribution and Darlows is sub par to him then Kruls is going to give him sleepless nights. Wouldn’t surprise me though if he had to take a look at Woodman before deciding what to do with him. Did well on loan, did well with England. Might have taken an interesting look at Pickford and thought maybe he can do a job.
De Jong seems to think he’s staying. Was happy to stay last year but rafa told him to go to get some fitness. Think he’s probably better suited to a higher level than the rough and ready lower leagues. Good attitude, good player if fit.
Armstrongs Newcastle career probably rests on this preseason tbh. At an age where he needs to break through, Again think he’d be more suited to the premier league as more teams attack and leave space behind.
Saivet – think they may just look at him because hes got 4 years left, no 1 in france that can afford him wants him. Hes versatile, and solid but unspectacular. No idea what his attitude is like but he was captain at Bordeaux.
Riviere… let him go free if someone will pay his wages surely… even half his wages. Apparently his attitude is way too nonchalant and relaxed too, very little will to win
