The Newcastle fans are still worried about Rafa Benitez and how angry is he behind the scenes because of so little transfer activity at Newcastle.
We have a feeling things will pick up tomorrow when he arrives again and will be smiling a lot as he welcomes some of his players back from their eight week summer break.
There is also discussion as to whether England internationals Joe Hart and Kieran Gibbs would be good signings for Newcastle.
Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez back in Toon tomorrow
And whatever happened with top target Andros Townsend – looks like we are no longer interested in him.
We are hoping we will be signing 26 year-old Frenchman Florian Lejeune shortly, but things have gone strangely quiet on that front – wonder what’s really happening behind the scenes?
Here’s some representative tweets from Newcastle fans this Sunday.
I think people forget we are a newly promoted team.. player choices aren’t as good as they seem to wish for. Gotta be realistic #nufc

I don’t believe we will sign anyone. Best to prepare mentally now for the disappointment. #NUFC

On what planet has Joe hart looked a good keeper in the last two years. Top 4 rejects has been a failed policy in the past. I despair. #nufc

Imagine turning your nose up at the thought of having Gibbs and hart in our team ? #NUFC

Rafa is only our manager in decade to stay at club instead of luxury vacation but our board still fail to support him, really shame. #nufc

Gibbs has played 200 games for Arsenal over the past 7 years. I wouldn’t call someone who averages 28.5 games a season ‘injury prone’ #NUFC

Why are the Toon desperate for a new keeper when we already have 3 with Premier league quality? #nufc

Difficult to work out player values when we valued Sissoko at £30m yet we had only to pay Bournemouth £10m for Ritchie #nufc

Tbf.. id take Hart in a second at the Toon. Bags of experience! #nufc
— Jonny Pegler (@Jonnypeg89) July 2, 2017
Joe Hart and Kieran Gibbs would be very good transfers for #nufc IMO. Then move onto a top class forward

Not heard anything on Andros Townsend coming back. I assume neither party are that bothered #nufc

We’ll need a striker that will get 20+ goals. Not sure Andre Gray is the man.

Money coming for Rafa Benitez NOT to be in charge of Newcastle on the opening day of the season, 7/1 into 17/10! http://pdy.pr/PLIiNp

Comment #2Already mentioned Townsend this week. Considering rumours had Rafa walking out for not getting him in January – scare stories, surprise surprise – strange how he hasn’t been mentioned.
Of course, that means nothing. A deal may have already been struck for all we know, but it may just as well be that Rafa has had a change of mind. Everyone thought he’d be first over the line, which only shows we know nothing, John Snow.

Comment #6Reilly, we’ve also been odds on to sign certain players and that hasn’t happened either. What odds were Brighton to win the Championship with three games left?
Granted bookies can get it right, but with all the talk this price cut is designed purely and simply to save themselves money if it should happen. It means very little really mate.

Comment #7@Bobby: Remember that odds shortening often have as much to do as people chucking money on one outcome as much as it means the likelihood has increased. The bookies want to keep making money, and if everybody is putting hundreds down on Man U to win at home, the odds will be shortened to protect the profit.

Comment #16Thump, I know that mate, makes you wonder how many of our fans have helped shorten the odds? They appears to be a drive for a self fulfilling prophecy to take place, just so some people can claim how right they’ve been all along.
Of course, they’ve said it five times since he joined, but will conveniently forget that if it does happen! 🙂 Personally I’m happy to wait and see and hope for the best. So far, it’s five nowt. If you keep saying something, eventually it will happen. It’s a fact that one day Rafa will leave. You’re bound to be right eventually, but even if they are right now, the five times they’ve been wrong kinda negates the ‘wise owl’ figure they’d like to portray! 🙂
My point is simply this. We don’t know – none of us – what’s happening. Is Rafa likely to walk whilst the window is open? Whilst he can still get what he wants? Simply doesn’t make logical sense to me.
Let’s be honest, Rafa himself has said NOTHING about being unhappy or on the verge of walking. It’s all media driven – again. Like is has been every time he’s been allegedly walking out the door.
Gonna have a joint and chill out – maybe others should too! 🙂

Comment #21My shopping list for next week would be:
LB – Gibbs or Robertson or Willems
CB – Ljeune
CDM – Camacho
MC or ACM – Boudebouz
ST – Gray or Iheanacho
I think that would cost about £60 million

To be honest though I want one top quality player done by Friday to get the ball rolling minimum.
Lejeunes or gibbs or both would seem most likely.

Comment #24Jazzy, are you still there? Or was that a classic wind up? Drop something then leg it, leaving us to wonder what you were talking about? The 17th? Is this secret code? Are you recruiting for MI5? (MI6 won’t like that). What’s occurring on the 17th? Our first signing? 🙂

Comment #25Toontaff, Rafa’s been getting some stick from the press. Collymore calling him a dictator and how he’ll drive owners away, not the other way round! 🙂 All it shows imo is that they know less than us.

Comment #26Nathaniel Chalobah would be a terrific signing. We were beating the Germans 2-1 last week, he went off with an injury and I don’t think we touched the ball after that, they scored 5 or 6 minutes later. He completely controlled the midfield, against the Germans too.

Comment #40Jib, things change in my world when they change in the real world mate. Right now, nothing’s changed. The window’s open. Rafa’s in charge. Signings will come when they come. When that changes, my mindset will change.
It’s like the boy who cried wolf on here though. Rafa’s been leaving several times so far, but not one of those rumours bore a shred of truth. No reason to believe this rumour than any of the earlier ones.
Right now, what could I do? What can anybody do? Dunno about others, but I imagine they’re like me insomuch we’ve all got real problems to concern us, without getting wound up over rumours. Face it when it happens – if it happens.
