Classy Former Club Eibar Vouch For Florian Lejeune’s Character

One of the things that was noticed last summer – when Rafa Benitez completely changed the Newcastle squad by bringing in 12 players and allowing 20 players to move out either permanently or on loan – was that he also dramatically changed the character of the squad.

He brought in players who wanted to play for Newcastle and play for the world-class manager.

Last season there were far too many players who couldn’t care less and that was epitomized by a Jamaal Lascelles blunt statement as he was sent off against Everton when we lost 3-0.

A serious looking Rafa Benitez with new signing Florian Lejeune yesterday
Smile Rafa – he’s a good player

Jamaal Lascelles – now captain of Newcastle – said while walking off the Goodison pitch said that nobody cares a f*** at the club.

Jamaal has a very good habit of telling it like it is – which we like a lot.

That’s one of the quotes from Mark Douglas’ excellent new book on Rafa – “Inside the Rafalution” – which I finally received yesterday.

And we saw an immediate improvement in the dressing room from the losing “couldn’t care less attitude” that existed under former manager Steve McClaren last season.

Our lads fought like crazy in some of last season’s matches against opposition we were supposed to beat – and it was great to see the guts and pride of the Newcastle players – they really cared.

And it seems Rafa has bought in another strong character in Florian Lejeune, with his former club sending out a classy tweet about their former player.

That’s a very nice touch from the Spanish club and we have an excellent player in Florian Lejeune.

The Frenchman will no doubt want to be one of the starting center-backs against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, August 12th when the Premier League kicks off at St. James’ Park and that’s great for competition.

The more we learn about Florian the better we like him.

🙂

What do you think?

Jesper, Grosicki had 5 assists in the 15 games he played in not 3.

Can’t claim to know too much about the Polish lad from Hull, but having seen him skin PL defenders a good few times, I don’t see him as a huge risk at the offered price. Bit of competition for Ritchie can’t hurt anybody.

Think I got this right. Sunlun just voted as the ninth worst city to live in in Europe? Or was it Britain? Either way, I think they’ve done well there. Ninth? Thought they’d be at least top three! 🙂

Let’s face it, Rafa signed a set of players to construct a purpose built squad that was suited to winning the championship by being suited to its style, and he acheiving his objective in fair style.

This year I’m sure he is looking to be equally pragmatic and set out to construct a squad of rounded ability to sit on top of the middle pack ( but not designed to hover there or about perennially on tread water finances as per the prior model).

That means no world class, record signings. But it should mean proven PL-class players who would feasibly get into all but the top four teams. All the hankering after bright young stars of the championship or ageing players with stellar records in dodgy foreign leagues needs to be put to bed.

nut meg…that’s 15 games, 0 goals, 3 assists and bang average stats for a PL player

…but I suppose if you only look at the assist per game ratio then Grosicki is probably the Polish Messi

I thought Richie was a very decent buy last year for the same amount of money we are being quoted to have bid for the Polish Messi

Finally some good news for Newcastle United Fans, been waiting what seems like forever. I was getting worried the plight of Newcastle United over the last say 5 years had put players off playing at the club. Happy to see this is not the case and Rafa does have the pull when it comes to signings. Lets hope this kid is like a Philippe Albert signing, god I loved Philippe he was a great center back. One in lets hope the flood gates open this week with at least one possibly two more.

Grosicki would be a decent signing, quick works hard and tbh we need more of that…and for the price tags that are being thrown around lately… he’s not a bad price.

Limited videos out there for Lejeune but I think he seems a decent player – strong header of the ball and reportedly two goo d feet. So on the limited information available I think it’s a thumbs up from me.

At least this signing will allay the fears of those who worry about those who worry that we were not going to sign anyone. Life is to short to worry about others worrying – get a bloody life.

Talk of a credible centre forward has bee raised. One thing for certain is that it will not be young Armstrong – he’ll be loaned out again.
Did some windbag wassock on here say he was going to be our centre forward for last season and be the top scorer. Good shout – not.

Mitro and Gayle worth more than Bakambu lol thats the funniest thing ive read on here for a few hours. The lads completely different class to them both and we would be lucky to get £10m for Mitro. I would rather have Batshuayi over anyone though personally but Chelsea could get £25-30m for him easily in Todays market and we arent going to pay that I wouldnt think. Everton signing Sandro Ramirez for £5.25m is the best business of the summer imo, we shouldve been in there for him.

Kamil Grosicki some of his pace and willingness to get into the box looks good!

Him and Richie on either wing with both able to get goals and assist or alternatively Atsu on the right Grosicki on the left and Richie in no 10 ?

SDJ is a conundrum. We all know how good he can be, but he’s never fit enough to play himself into a decent run of form. You would’ve thought the PL was an ideal place for him to express himself but it simply hasn’t happened for him. As much as I’d love to see a fit, on form SDJ playing regularly for us, sadly I think that boat may have sailed already.

It seems as though we are gettin linked with a lot of pacey players and strikers, lately, rather then the playmaker types…thats why it crossed my mind about sdj….just a thought…but by the end of the transfer window he may well be injured again or away out on loan or sold..but would like to see start and get a run of games as we do need someone like him in the side.
