Classy Former Club Eibar Vouch For Florian Lejeune’s Character

One of the things that was noticed last summer – when Rafa Benitez completely changed the Newcastle squad by bringing in 12 players and allowing 20 players to move out either permanently or on loan – was that he also dramatically changed the character of the squad.

He brought in players who wanted to play for Newcastle and play for the world-class manager.

Last season there were far too many players who couldn’t care less and that was epitomized by a Jamaal Lascelles blunt statement as he was sent off against Everton when we lost 3-0.

A serious looking Rafa Benitez with new signing Florian Lejeune yesterday
Smile Rafa – he’s a good player

Jamaal Lascelles – now captain of Newcastle – said while walking off the Goodison pitch said that nobody cares a f*** at the club.

Jamaal has a very good habit of telling it like it is – which we like a lot.

That’s one of the quotes from Mark Douglas’ excellent new book on Rafa – “Inside the Rafalution” – which I finally received yesterday.

And we saw an immediate improvement in the dressing room from the losing “couldn’t care less attitude” that existed under former manager Steve McClaren last season.

Our lads fought like crazy in some of last season’s matches against opposition we were supposed to beat – and it was great to see the guts and pride of the Newcastle players – they really cared.

And it seems Rafa has bought in another strong character in Florian Lejeune, with his former club sending out a classy tweet about their former player.

That’s a very nice touch from the Spanish club and we have an excellent player in Florian Lejeune.

The Frenchman will no doubt want to be one of the starting center-backs against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, August 12th when the Premier League kicks off at St. James’ Park and that’s great for competition.

The more we learn about Florian the better we like him.

What do you think?

The Tiny Lives Trust funds the Special Care Baby Unit at the RVI where Alex’s son Isaac spent the first few weeks of his life.

Alex is appreciative of the work the great doctors and nurses did to save his son’s life and that’s why he’s raising money.

Please support this very worthwhile charity on Alex’s Just Giving page where there are pictures of his son Isaac – thanks.

Rafa will play what bring him most success in the league and he tried 3 at the back last season so it must be in his mind…19/20 PL teams played 3 at the back at some point Rafa wont of missed that

Grosicki for the money would be a decent signing, it does look like the prices of players everywhere has made the club have a bit of a rethink…lejeune 8-9m,grosicki 5-10m…as opposed to cairney 20+m, and any other player mentioned for similar money…. especially if we are workin to a tighter budget then we think we had a fee month back.

Charlie Taylor to Burnley and Brendan Galloway to scum on a season loan.
Two more lads we have been linked with over the past year.

Ive seen a few say its bargain basement shopping again but, and maybe am being overly optimistic here, to me this is sensible platform building so we can shop big in future on specific positions. Atm we have a lot of the team to fill with decent quality and we are never going to buy 11 20+mill players this summer

Admittedly I think we will see one or two who we will say aye this lad is in the team for the next 4+ years but for the most part this will be transition players

You know seeing that video of the players returning to training yesterday i thought it was interesting that sterry, armstrong, colback, de jong, lazaar and krul even though they seemingly arent going to be with us for the season. Interesting aswell that no mention of saviet anywhere by anyone even though he returned to training, would anyone keep him reassess him over pre season or would everyone get rid?

Jazzy I’ve just read on twitter Galloway shares same agent as jacob’s so the photo of train ticket is more likely about Galloway than him.

jesper – welcome back to the blog. As you have probably realised some of the windbags have left the blog only to be replaced by other nastier windbags. But they are a good laugh – I’ve found you cannot argue/debate with them as they misrepresent what was said – so when the original point was made it is denied or lied about – how can you further a debate under such misreprentation.
    Anyway welcome back.

Jib- I said we need a striker not “Makambu”..with the system Rafa plays, our striker ideally should be quick, have the ability to hold the ball up,run the channels and have good link up play..even so we need a creator just behind the striker…just like how rafa had torres and Steve G..Rafa still applies the same tactics but doesnt have that quality up front ..As for Siem,he definitely can play but I agree we should cash in while we can..Im sure his wages are high..It will free up the wage bill to bring in better quality players..
