Transfer Fee May Be Too High For Newcastle To Pay For This Central Midfield Target

There’s a report in the Telegraph today that Stoke City have launched a £12M bid Manchester City central midfielder Fabian Delph and given the wild transfer fees being paid out this summer by Premier League clubs, that’s not a bad price for a good technical player.

The report says that Newcastle are also interested in signing Delph,  but that the fee may put them off –  we hope that’s not true.

The reality about Fabian is that if he did sign for Newcastle United then Rafa Benitez could bring out the best of a player who always had good potential without ever reaching the heights.

Mark Hughes is a good manager, but he’s no Rafa Benitez.

27 year-old Manchester City central midfielder Fabian Delph

The Telegraph report is the accomplished Stoke manager is keen to make Fabian his third signing of the summer – and we hope Newcastle will also try to make Delph our third signing of the summer.

Manchester City want to have a permanent sale this summer for the player who signed on two years ago from Aston Villa and they don’t want to send Fabian out on loan.

West Brom are the other Premier League club interested in the 9 times capped England International.

Stoke are obviously now in the lead to sign the play-maker, but from the Telegraph report, it doesn’t look like Newcastle are very keen to sign the 27 year-old – and that’s a pity.

This is what Mark Hughes has said about Delph:

“We have asked for an idea in terms of the possibility of doing something with Fabian Delph.”

“He is one of a number of players we are looking at, but we speak to a lot of clubs and ask about their plans for certain players.”

“Fabian is one that we have asked about, because he is a good footballer, but with certain deals you are in the hands of other clubs.”

“We are very active in the market at the moment, and we are hopeful that things will begin to move quickly for us.”

Rafa and Newcastle do have other central midfield players we are looking at, so we’ll just have to wait and see.

But it may be that Fabian Delph is not a priority transfer target at Newcastle after all?

We’ll soon find out.

What do you think?

Have you been in Aarhus Jail ?

There was an article doing the rounds last week that we won’t pay more than 15 million for one player.

    OT,
I dislike Ashley being here more than most. But why won’T it change no matter who the manager is. It’s already changed just by Rafa being here, he’s not here because it’s the best gig he’ll ever get offered again. He’s here because he wants to win things and become a legend, until he comes out and says it’s not what was in the brochure then there’s no need for doom and gloom.

But what about Bad Toss Belfast? It’s 35M but only 5 quid a week. It’s worth it. That’s how we’re getting around the whole 15M thingie…. Beautiful…. Rafa loves it.

With the two young new recruits coming in we now appear to have an abundance of CB’s . It’ll be interesting to see who Rafa makes captain or if he will be choosing the captain on a rotational basis.

    hibbit,
Did you see my post earlier about all the people a few years ago lauding Carr scouting bargains for Pardew when we’d just sold Carroll for 35M pound but a criticising the way we are doing things now with Rafa seemingly content. I can’t understand it.

Delph is exactly what we need. If 12 million is true that’s a fair price especially in this market.

Are we doing the sales that need doing? Are we doing it Ashley? Are you letting Rafa get on with it? Are we selling Herr Hanley etc.? Why are we taking so long? We need important information. We can make you talk Ashley. We have Herr Hickson now….

There’s nothing to talk about because we haven’t got a clue who we’re bringing in. We don’t know what the strategy is either. Are we looking merely to survive this season with a cup run or are we going to see a flurry of players and push for top ten. Until Rafa says so the plan must be going accordingly.

Still think we will sign a real no.10 and a top drawer winger to play on the left. Plenty of time yet. There’s much posturing at the moment across the board and we’ll probably act at the end of the window once the big spenders have done their business.

    What now.
    Delph too tall
    Anita too small.
Are there no players called Malcolm who would be somewhere in the Middle

Typical that clubs like Stoke hunt for redundant Manchester / Merseyside players because they wouldn’t have to move from the Cheshire home belt. Bit like us signing any redundant Sunderland players who live on Tyneside because the weathers better up here

I quite like Goufran – many a game last season I thought he did the dirty work in midfield when theTOON were struggling – not a stand-out player but – tackled harassed got the ball and kept it simple and came up with some important goals.
We had to many in midfield in mid season likes of Shelvey, Ritchie for a time and Colback most of the time struggled.
Coming season can’t see him getting mush play time – might be a decent bech warmer though

I felt sorry for him as he was brought in as a cog that funnily enough was a different shape and size to the ones he was meant to be replacing which he never ended up replacing anyway and therefore because of his unusual shape and size wouldn’t fit anywhere in the end.

Still not clear what Charnley actually does other than getting in the way of deals being completed. Does he have other functions? All the tax files should be burned by now so that shouldn’t be occupying his time…. There must be something else. Waxing the floors? Re-arranging the silverware?

    This is Rafa’s “proyecto”
    “Softly softly catchee monkee”
There will be signings where we all go “WTF !!!!”
But Rafa knows what he’s doing and thinks so far ahead it’s not funny
    all together now

    Charlie,
I predicted that he’d be an important player last season although I didn’t predict that he’d have that much influence, I took a bit of stick for saying he’d do well. But I did say I’d be very disappointed if he was still here. As I said nobody knows what Rafas goals are for next season, maybe he feels one season to consilidate before being able to attract better players.
