Newcastle Could Be Close To Surprise Signing Of Spanish Playmaker

The Chronicle reported that Rafa Benitez was after a playmaker who had recently played in La Liga and we were linked with Brentford playmaker Jota (full name Jose Ignacio Peleteiro Ramallo) in mid-June when Sky Sports reported  the Newcastle manager was interested in signing his fellow countryman.

And with Sky Sports reporting the player will not be played (risked) in the club’s friendly against Aldershot Town tonight because they are expecting a bid from a Premier League club, maybe Newcastle are that club who are close to a deal for the 26 year-old?

The other Premier League clubs said to be interested in signing him are Everton, West Ham and Huddersfield Town.

26 year-old Spanish playmaker Jota – plays for Brentford

Jota was on loan at Spanish club Eibar during almost the whole of 2016, but returned to Brentford at the end of last year – maybe the Newcastle scouts watched him during the first half of last season while they were scouting newly signed French center-back Florian Lejeune, who played at Eibar last season.

Jota was simply brilliant when he returned to the Bees in January and in the last five months of the Championship season Jota seemed to come alive and scored 12 goals and laid on five assists in 21 total appearances.

Jota now has just one year left on his contract, but if Rafa is close to signing him then the manager must think he can make the big step up to the very tough Premier League.

Jota was signed by Brentford in the summer of 2014 from Celta Vigo on a three year deal for an undisclosed fee – and that contract included a one year option, which was taken up by the Bees.

In August of 2015 he suffered damaged ankle ligaments in the opening game of the season against Ipswich – and was out of action until that December.

In January of 2016, he left on loan to Eibar until June 2017 due to personal reasons; Jota was unsettled and seemed to be missing his family and that was the reported to be the main reason for his return to Spain.

He has now played 74 games for Brentford with 23 goals and 9 assists – and while at Eibar on loan a couple of times in 2013-2014 and then in 2016 he played a total of 57 times and scored 11 goals with 3 assists for them.

But he’s played excellently this year in the Championship and for just £8M and with ready cash looking tight at Newcastle, he would seem a very decent buy for us if Rafa really rates him.

It would be good to get another player through the door soon and maybe Jota is the player the Chronicle were referring to?

What do you think?

Jota is certainly a hotter prospect than some of the has beens/crocks we’ve been linked with.

Do you see anything wrong with this mate.

Ruben Neves to Wolves for 18 mill. The youngest captain ever of Porto in a champions league game. At 20 years of age has the whole world at his feet and is expected to have a massive career both at club and international level.

Newcastle could be near to signing Jota for 8 million from Brentford

Gives us fans hope mate don’t it

There’s certainly alot of ifs buts and maybes flying around. We need real quality ffs, we’re preparing for the premier league not another season in the championship. If we don’t well be relegated again.

If I say anythi g negative I’m accused of being a doom and gloom merchant, if a comment is made on a poor link the excuse of rafa wouldn’t tell the media is rolled out…..then the worst kept secret in Lejeune signing happens a player that we’ve been linked with for weeks.

So far this window has been a disaster, if we were established and had a solid squad I wouldn’t mind as much but we’ve just come up and need serious quality which is lacking, we seem to be concentrating in getting in players at the bottom of the bargain basement. I was hoping for at least another decent signing this week.

Oh yes, the prospect of Ashley signing off a buy is exciting in itself, never mind spending a whole,£8m – when Wolves can find £18m for Neves.

Ashley’s commitment to leave Penfold and Rafa to get on with running the club seems to been blasted out of the water by the way that spend’s been constrained. Oh yes, he may not be the one who approves spend but Charnley’s expected to run proposals by Brown (his that the name of his Mr Fixit place-man?) who’s no doubt following orders.

Never mind, I trust that Rafa knew what he’d bought into, hope so anyway.

Who knows mate by the end of the weekend we could have 2 or 3 quality players in that no one saw coming, I prey we do. But as of yet this summer is very underwhelming to say the least.
We keep getting told to believe in Rafa..Yet wasn’t it he who wanted transfer business done early.
All week Lejuene transfer has been done to death just to try and appease the masses, And the minutes at the meeting stated more transfers were imminent .
If the 2 young lads that arrived yesterday is that mentioned. Then that is a poor misinterpretation of whats required for the first team

Wolves might have bought an £18m flop whereas we might have a £8m star.

We’ve bought plenty of expensive flops in the past but hopefully Rafa see’s more potential in our bargain basement buys.

So is Rafa happy ❓ or unhappy ❓

    I’m confused ❗

Meeting between Rafa and Ashley at seasons end went well because he’s still here.

If Ashley has nothing to do with transfers etc. Then what’s the crack with transfers

Is something else holding up deals e.g: one out one in ❓

It’s just one big mindfcuk at the minute and the press are all over it like a tramp on chips!

I am amazed Wolves have got this guy mate. Porto’s youngest ever captain and virtually every top club clamouring for his signature. And still only 20.

Jota has had a decent season don’t get me wrong,But look at his record and where he at.
Will he play instead of Shelvey..I doubt it very much.
We need players that are going to be guaranteed starting 11, Not more fringe players buddy

A few years ago when our elderly scout was scouring Europe for players out of contract, players who were prepared to go on strike and having failed medicals elsewhere you applauded the policy. The following year when we didn’t buy anyone but Anita you were over the moon because we didn’t (couldn’t) sell anyone, all the while we had a sacked league one manager in charge with a casino manager making up five year plans on a daily basis. Now we have a top class manager in charge and all you want to do is snipe at the situation, are you sure you want was is best for the club?

Why are folk amazed at this Wolves signing
Their manager is the ex Porto legendary goalkeeper
    Nuno Espírito Santo
So many players have said already this window
“I signed because of the manager”
Which really puts us in the box seat
It is really early doors in this window
Prepare to be amazed by Rafa’s signings

Sorry but this thing of “hey, we could have 2 or 3 quality signings in a few days time!” is said on this blog literally every single transfer window- how many decent windows have we had with Ashley?

I feel the desperate optimism like everyone else but it irritates me to see the hopes building just like every other time in this window!

The potential move of Neves to Wolves makes me scratch my head because I am surprised that a Championship club can afford an £18M player without running into trouble with the EFL’s FFP rules. Mind you QPR ran into this trouble a few seasons back and then the league authorities backed down on the punishment. Anyway, the FFP rules are what I wonder about.

It is a massive sign of intent by the owner in getting Rafa to stay. Until Rafa says something is amiss then we simply have to keep the faith. If he really is going to screw Rafa over the way he did KK then at least we might see the beginnings of some majority Ashley out protests.
