Newcastle Make Surprise Move To Sign Free Agent Jesus Navas From Manchester City

The news this morning in the Mirror online is that Newcastle are now keen to take Manchester City free agent Jesus Navas to St. James’ Park this summer.

Navas is a free agent after leaving the Etihad at the end of last month and those are the types of deals Newcastle will be keen on doing this summer, with money seemingly in short supply – at least compared to other Premier League clubs.

The news is that Newcastle have made a move and put a proposal to the player’s agent on the compensation Newcastle are willing to pay Navas if he will join the north-east club.

31 year-old Manchester City free agent Jesus Navas

Navas is trying to do a deal with his former club Sevilla, whom he joined way back in 2000 and was with before joining City back in 2013 for £15M.

The talks with the Spanish club have stalled and Sevilla are refusing to offer the 31 year-old more than £1.3M a year in wages – which is a round £25K/week.

So this is an opportunity for Newcastle to move in and do a deal quickly and we did enquire about Navas in May this year – according to our records.

The Mirror is reporting that Navas has to make some decision by next Sunday, if he wants to move back to Sevilla on £1.3M/year wages.

Navas has played a massive 393 times for Sevilla with 35 goals and 76 assists and at Manchester City over the last four years he’s played 183 games with 8 goals and 38 assists.

This is an opportunity for Newcastle to pick up a very experienced player fairly cheaply, say for a couple of years.

It would be a bit of a coup if we can do it and Rafa is said to be keen to sign the 35 times capped Spanish International winger.

Navas being 31 and having modelled his game on pace so far might not have as big an impact now as pace is the first thing to go when getting into your 30’s. Not a big fan of Navas and don’t think he’ll bring much to us but in Rafa I trust so I’ll remain open minded.

    Fair point Krul.
    Michael Owen was the same.
Until his mid 20’s he could catch pigeons.
Sometime when he was in Madrid he lostthat blistering pace
by the time he came to us at 26,
(paradoxically the same age as Shearer when he joined NUFC)
    he was a spent force.
His string of injuries and interest in racehorses didn’t help like.

    Lesh was asking.

I watched Navas a few times last season and wasn’t over-impressed, however if Rafa is interested …

To summerise the article about monthly payments, I did not previously know about this but it makes sense as every club has on going costs to maintain. All the clubs in the PL receive about £70M for being involved and then in addition a sum for finishing place and TV appearances, however it is the original base figure that is payed in installments throughout the season.

Having said that Navas won’t want the huge wages given to Owen
It’s hard to believe that 12 years ago Owen was on £6 million pa
    No £17 million fee either

You sort of get the idea we went into this transfer window unprepared which is a bit hard to swallow actually!

We might not be able to sign players from foreign league before July 1st (June 9th from other PL teams) but we could easily have done all the work beforehand. I don’t buy we got caught off gaurd by the transfer fees. If that’s the case then they are simply not equipped to do what they are doing.

So far Rafa has disappointed me but I guess he has plenty of time to come good. Lets see what happens in the coming weeks. We might be pressed for time.

I’d take Navas.needs a target man to get best out of him.city never bothered with that much.I’d go for negredo as well if we do.
However my list of players as it stands is:

Chambers – not ideal but steady.

    2 out of these:
Nolito – was played on wing a world class striker.
Iheanacho – first pick ideal signing.
    Chicaritto – great striker
Negredo – worth a punt good target man
carroll – yeah I know but guaranteed a better performance with us than hammers..injuries not ideal but I’d want him
Lucas perez – never had a run worth a punt
Musa – another who has been played as a winger instead of a striker because too like vardy. I see a player in there.

I really want a top playmaker hoping rafa pulls a gem out of the bag.

    Traore I’m unconvinced by.

Hba – not a team player imho. Talented though.

I think Navas would be good competition for Ritchie and at a decent wage as it seem he can’t get big bucks elsewhere. He’s still fast and skillful, also remember Man City played him in the wingback position last year.

    Like to see..

    Iheanacho (25m) – Batshuayi (loan) – Chicaritto (12m)
would have liked Mounie but he went to Huddersfield!!

Campbell from arsenal – hard worker, speed and skill, also play up front (3m or free)
Choupo-Moting – hard workings good dribbler, also plays up front (i believe he is now a free agent?)
Nkoudou – from spurs, only seen him a few times last year but looked to have something. playing for marseille he looked good. fast and skillful. (loan)
    Navas – free

Fernando – decent buy at 5m.
Gregory Sertic – plays DM or CB. Good leader, great tackler and passer, was going to the U.S but i see Marseille have had a bid accepted for only 1.5m
Holtby – see we were linked to him last week, like this player a lot. Hard working, full of energy. however i feel he is similar to Saviet so why not give him a chance?
Pasavic – young Chelsea player who was at AC Milan last year on loan. a bit like Shelvey. Good passer but not the quickest, however more of a goal threat. They want rid of him and it was reported he’s available for 2.5m
Chalobah – Not going to work for him at Chelsea. plays DM or CB, prem ready now. 10m

Smalling…Was Man U player of the season in 2016. A leader who on his day is one of the best defenders in the prem. 15m
Rahman – Chelsea LB. fast and attack minded. loan
Sagna – Yes Sagna from Man City! he’s getting on but still a good RB or CB. Free and at 34 he’s probably not going to get big bucks elsewhere unless he goes to china.
Aogo – plays as a left back and left wing-back or midfielder for Schalke 04. Good cover and free.
Santon – yes Davide Santon. I liked him at the toon. loves the place and would come back tomorrow. playes RB but always got stuck at LB. I actually thought he did a great job that time when he started at CM. 3m

would also like to see a change of formation to the much played 3-5-3. works well for all the top teams. but the key to making this work is you must play a hard working winger in a wingback postion. Mouting, Campbell, Navas, Rahman and Aogo could all provide this.
