Over the weekend a new striker target emerged for Newcastle and it was reported in the Chronicle that Rafa Benitez is keen on a move for 25 year-old Real Sociedad striker Willian Jose.
Jose signed a four year deal at Real Sociedad from Las Palmas last summer and last season he looked good and scored 14 goals in 44 total appearances for his new club.
That was after he had scored 10 goals in 34 appearances for Las Palmas in the previous season.
25 year-old Real Sociedad striker Willian Jose
Willian was born in Brazil and eventually moved to Real Madrid from Santos back in 2013 and since then he’s moved to Real Zaragoza in 2014, Las Palmas in 2015 and now Real Sociedad last summer.
At those last three clubs he’s scored 34 goals in 106 total appearances.
Rafa Benitez needs more goalscoring power up front for next season and he needs to bring in at least one striker plus one or two goalscoring wingers.
Benitez will have heard all about the capabilities of Willian Jose last season from his many contacts in Spain.
But the price for the 15 times capped 6ft 1ins tall Brazilian U20 International (5 goals) will not be cheap and he could cost Newcastle us up to £25M.
Rafa has to decide this summer which are the players he will spend the big bucks on and we suppose Willian could be one of them?
What do you think?

Comment #3Maybe I was a bit hasty with my lack of striker links comment earlier 🙂 Seriously will we spend £25m on a striker – I’m not sure?

Comment #4Jib, I believe the trip to Ireland begins next week mate. It was reported to be this week earlier in the summer by some sources, but that was wrong I believe. Bit like our transfers – all very confusing 🙂

Comment #5This blog is on the internet. If you go on any other site with active comments and disagreements there will be Harsh things said. The severity of things said on here is pretty minor (until a real nut job comes on with some extreme views, but they are soon shunned). What ruins the blog is the constant crying about others comments being too harsh.

Fair point bud. Again I cannot prove anything I’m saying from last summer.
How we are debating now is how the debates should be .
Football brings out the passion in all of us and often rumbles that fire in your belly.
All I am saying mate is just take a step back and breathe for a minute then re engage in the debate.
Have a good day pal

Spot on. But in this modern age of keyboard “warriorism”, we need to take the time to learn about the character we are debating with, who may be living on the other side of world before indulging in discussion……lol

Comment #8Shirebrook, well past mate! I wonder if Huddersfield and Brighton’s blogs are the same? Or do they just target us for spite?
Martoon, I don’t think Rafa has a fixed price on any transfer. If the right one comes up he might well push the boat out, but players in the £54m bracket are just silly prices and would eat up our kitty – whatever that is.

Doubt their blogs are the same mate! The media seem to have it in for us bigtime.
Should hopefully see some more signings this week as we’ve had a top up in funds from TV money if I’ve heard right

Comment #11Seem to recall (stand to be corrected) that last pre season Rafa gave live pre match press conferences. If so the press are going to be after him later this week to answer one or two questions about transfers. Did the club stop him from attending the FF and a press conference for Lejeune.
Better get a signing in this week or Rafa could be made to look a right mug trying to explain no transfers – not by his hand I hasten to add.

Comment #17I’m totally baffled, why would we risk up to £25M on a player who has never played in the Prem when there is someone of the calibre of Hernandez on offer for near enough half that amount and he’s a proven premiership striker. Even if he wanted a good few quid as a wage, I’m sure the £12M we’d save on the Jose transfer would cover his wages for 2-3 years! The longer this transfer window goes on, the more obvious it’s looking like fatty just wants to fcuk us over again. I can only assume that he prefers the Championship for some bizarre reason

Comment #18Bobbybee @8 – You could be right – it would just be amazing if we spent £25m on one player. There have been many estimates to our transfer budget but I have a feeling it maybe as much as £70m. I have no proof just a gut feeling I think based on £30m profit from last year plus parachute payment £40m. Any other income such as STs etc. is needed for wages and running the club – I’m no accountant so I could be completely wrong!

Morning buddy hope you well
I think if nobody comes in this week, Then something’s amiss.
Pre season starts this weekend and as yet there is nothing concrete, just links.
I know I bang on about what other clubs are doing , But that’s just out of frustration because of our inactivity.Whatever clubs are signing they believe they are strenghening for the up coming campaign,And as yet we are not. That’s not being negative just being practical of the situation Nufc are currently in.
Tomorrow mate we could have spent 30-40 million on some player and we all be loving life… somehow I think not tho haha

Comment #20I called someone an effing idiot last night. I am not proud of it, I have apologised and it won’t happen again.
We were relegated because of a policy implemented by a casino manager years ago. A purple policy that insisted on the bare minimum of personnel, the same guy who is complaining bitterly of lack of signings said we had too many players last year, I couldn’t help but lose my rag.

Your bang on the money sir Re Jib.
I’ve been bought up in life to have respect for others and this why the frustration gets the better of me sometimes.
What do you think of the transfer window so far ??

Comment #22Well am glad I didn’t renew my season ticket cos I new this would happen we just couldn’t get them over the line Mike Ashley will never change Rafa will be gone very soon I would put money on it the only reason we spent last season was to get back in the prem I don’t no why yous all r building your hopes up for prepare yourselves for another relegation cos that’s what will happen this team ain’t good enough for the Prem and if rafa does walk which I think he will the fans need to stay away

Comment #23Pootle, don’t let it get to you mate, chances are – or the likelihood is – we have zero interest in the vast majority of linked players. Must be over 200 now and not in a million years is that remotely near reality.
Most dealings will be done quietly and away from the nosey press, but agents like to boost interest in their clients and this is a good way to do it.

I am not actually roo worried about it, truth to be told because I think our current squad is capable of midtable.
I am happy we are not falling for some of the ridiculous prices quoted for dustinctly ordinary players.
As the window goes on, players will become at more realistic prices

Yes, every player is being quoted as 4 times their reasonable value.McCarthy by Everton, then the really ridiculous ones in lunatic order reserve Samaris, Headless chicken Traore – both massively, ludicrously overpriced (while Boro UNDERVALUE Darlow !) and then the looniest of loony overpricing – Bas Dost

Comment #2934 goals in last 106 appearances, sorry, that is not £25 million worth of player. basically he’s a mid range 13-15 goal scorer, what we need is a 25-30 goal scorer.

Comment #30Don’t believe this link for a second. He looks bang average and has the goal scoring record to prove it. Rivière mark 2.0…
Sporting are playing hardball but they’ll let him go eventually if we are really offering anywhere near £35M. He looks a player hat could do some damage in the Prem.
