It seems the two loan moves we wanted to make for Tammy Abraham and Rubin Loftus-Cheek of Chelsea will both be unsuccessful, with Tammy preferring to move to Swansea City and now Loftus-Cheek all ready to sign for Crystal Palace.
So we don’t know what it is with loan deals that seems to put players from coming to Newcastle United for a season with the news in the Mirror this afternoon that Liverpool winger starlet Sheyi Ojo is going to Middlesbrough on loan.
We don’t understand why he would want to play a full season in the Championship rather than in the Premier League but it’s likely he simply wants the number of appearances he would get at the Smoggies.
20 year-old Liverpool winger Sheyi Ojo on loan to Middlesbrough
The Mirror is reporting that Newcastle are again struggling to reach an agreement, this time with Liverpool – for the 20 year-old winger.
Liverpool do not want to sell Ojo, so it’s another one of those deals where the player on loan could become a much better player at Newcastle – coached by Rafa – but we get little out of that other than his appearances for the season.
For some reason Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp thinks the better deal would be for his young winger to join Middlesbrough in the Championship.
It looks like Newcastle wanted an option to buy clause in his contract and Rafa was even willing to put a buy-back clause in there in case Ojo became really good under the Spaniard’s tutelage.
That seems one of the problems – that Rafa wants to take players on loan and have an option to buy them, but given the financial situation we are in a good player on loan for a year would be a good deal for Newcastle and save on transfer funds.
Hopefully it would only be for the coming season because we are short of transfer funds.
What do you think?

Comment #6All these young players that we can’t even get on loan. Loftus-Cheek, Shifty Yoyo, and Tammy Abraham. Very disappointing. We are being cagey with the money but will we eventually miss out on too many promising players? Let’s hope Rafa has a few tricks remaining up his little Spanish sleeves…..

Comment #9You players have no say in where they want to go on loan – they are told where they are going

Comment #12I still see that 4M net spend so far as a problem. But if Rafa doesn’t like the deals on offer then I suppose we continue to wait……

Comment #17I think Abraham had some say in where he went. But possibly only press bollocks? Mostly true though. Young players are loaned out, they don’t pick and choose. I would have thought Rafa would make us a good destination though.
