Newcastle Should Decide Which Player They Want Between These Two – And Go All Out To Sign Him

Newcastle wanted to sign Everton midfielder James McCarthy in January and also winger Andros Townsend from Crystal Palace, but we were not successful – and one thing that has puzzled us is why we haven’t aggressively gone after either of these two players this summer.

What happens when you don’t aggressively pursue your targets is that other clubs come in for them and would you believe that Leicester City are now interested in signing the 26 year-old Everton central midfielder who we think would be a great buy for us.

And Leicester have more funds to meet the asking price for James – £20M or £25M – whichever reports you believe.

26 year-old Everton midfielder James McCarthy

We have wanted James since last summer and if we had managed to stay up Rafa would probably have gone after him at that time.

We definitely need another playmaker in the team and we found out last season that Jonjo Shelley is not enough – when he’s injured or suspended and out of the team we looked poor.

A cheaper alternative to James is Manchester City central midfielder Fabian Delph, who is available for £12M with Stoke City looking like the main competition to Newcastle.

27 year-old Manchester City midfielder Fabian Delph

Is it too much to ask that they decide which player they want between the two of them and then go all out to sign him.

We can get Fabian by bidding the £12M City want for him rather than going in with £8M and then waiting a week or two and then raising it to £8.5M – you know – that kind of thrifty nonsense that gets you nowhere fast.

That’s the type of stuff that dragged the Florian Lejeune transfer out to more than six weeks.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

smacks of desperation. getting someone for the sake of it. i am certain Rafa has more about him than that. he will get his transfers, we just have to be patient and wait.

at the end of the transfer window are all the doom mongers going to admit they were wrong if we get good signings? of course not!

    Belfast,
I hope so but I think the Hardy story has come from personal knowledge rather than what he thinks, as I said it’s not like .com to print rumours, they’ve printed only two or three of the 150 players we were linked with and Rafa had a face to face meeting with one of them.

Skimming through the comments today notice a few people looking down on Huddersfields transfer activity and completely overlooking the fact that they have loaned kasey Palmer for another year. Quality young player who would walk into our team as a number 10.

You don’t help yourself sometimes, I’ll take you st your word that you support us as you’d not waste so much time on here if you didn’t.

I do however question you sometimes when you make daft comments like wanting rafa to fail, I hated pards and various others before him but never have I hoped to see a manager of our club fail to suit my agenda.

I dislike Ashley immensely but I don’t want nufc to fail because of him

Also see charly musonda has been given 17 at Chelsea so hints of him being given game time this year at Chelsea. Banged on about him a few months ago as he’d be perfect for us. Remember the name as if he’s given an opportunity he’s going to shine.

hibbit agree that these tales about unrest really need to be addressed by Rafa, club statement or perhaps a big signing. Cannot be allowed to go on day after day. Throws a bad light on the club – normal businesses would at least try to kill this type of story.

On Arma. As someone who bothers his arse to go watch the kids and U23’s, I was happy to pass on what I witnessed. I still maintain Arma is the best thing through our academy for a long time and writing him off at 20 only shows ignorance about the game. How many times did Kane go on loan before breaking through? You only need to look at his goals record to realise how good he was at that age.
Without people like me being prepared to pass on things like that, overseas fans wouldn’t know who was coming through and how good they were. Someone who knocks me for it, who doesn’t even go to senior games, is a bit rich.
Arma still has plenty time to make it. He was prolific at Coventry, but no so much at Barnsley, which considering the game they played, is hardly surprising.
So, remind me. What exactly have you offered to overseas fans re our players? Your smug remark – your words – only shows that you want things to fail, because being right is so important to a at any cost. Real fans want our kids to succeed and don’t use them to try and score pretty points against people they don’t even know. That is just pathetic.
Of course Arma might fail at Newcastle. Very few do make it, but when I was reporting on his development, he was purely belter. The best for years.
Hopefully this season will see him break through, whether here or on loan. Unlike you I won’t brag about it if he does, I’ll be just over the moon that one of OUR OWN has made it. And that, is what fans do.

I’m really quite glad that klopp has said the comments he has. Not because his opinion is particularly important but because this market is toxic for the future of the premier league. The club’s have a sustainable income just based on the tv revenue if the transfer prices stay within a reasonable level. Otherwise where does it stop. How can massive debt be justified with that kind of income.
Also it gives me hope it will calm down within this window.
What makes it do high and lack of movement is clubs recognise they have to sell at massive prices in order to just replace the player.
I’d like to see us sign these at these prices.
    Hart 10 million
    Gibbs 8 million
    Delph 12 million
    Murphy 10 million
    Iheanacho 18 million
Plus a top quality number 10.

    Add loans of:

    Ojo
    Mangala

Yesterday we had words out of Rafa’s own mouth about how difficult it was this window, but that they were pushing on with transfer plans. As he said himself, the whole club is frustrated as to how crazy the prices are,but they’re working on transfers as he spoke. To confirm this, he pulled two mobile phones out of his pocket.
Then an old story resurfaces and it’s back to he’s walking again! So really, even when he reassures us, some would still rather believe a story in the press than words from his own mouth.
Let’s get it straight. Nobody is saying he 100% won’t walk, but now we’re onto the seventh time he’s walking out the club, a day after he reassured people they were working hard on transfers.
Yes, he might walk. Even I’ve agreed that it’s not impossible, and if he does we can address that when it happens. Working yourself into a frenzy when there’s not one scrap of evidence he’s going to walk is crazy talk. Defeatist and weak.
I don’t know how to express it any clearer. If he walks, we address it then. Until then, I’m happy to take Rafa on his word. He’s the manager. He’s in charge of transfers, not Ashley. Unless Rafa’s been lying all along and he’s another involved in a conspiracy for the money. No wonder other fans laugh at us.

People on the blog have guessed our transfer budget around 60-70 million but I seriously think it’s much, much lower after a season in the championship. We made around £70 million revenue I think (maybe wrong) yet our wage bill alone was around £75 million.

Ronaldo, this season always was about cementing our place in the PL. Talk of top four five or six was pie in the sky. Rafa won’t settle for season after season of survival, but he’s wise enough to know that the first season is all about survival. Especially with these crazy prices being bandied about. Next season we’ll be on a level playing field money wise and that’s when he’ll push on.

Yeah me personally my idea was to just guarantee safety first and foremost. Anything else is a bonus. Last time we got relegated we made shrewd signings and the season after we signed the likes of cabaye and pushed on. Could see it playing out in similar fashion again.

Ronaldo, nobody knows how much is available because Rafa isn’t saying. Whatever it is though, he’s happy with it. Or he was until prices went orbital. They sat down and agreed. Rafa actually agrees in principle with Ashley’s blueprint. He too wants the club to be self sustaining. Without a sugar daddy it has to be. We’ve seen what happens when clubs gamble on upcoming income and he’s not prepared to gamble.
Whatever the amount is, Rafa is happy with it and it’s still available. It hasn’t been spent yet. He’s looking for the right players to do a specific job, just like last season.

Ronaldo, crikey, I think we might be better off with the tea lady option! 🙂
We did take the PL by storm in the 94/5 season under KK, but that was a different ball game altogether. Blackburn bought the league back in those days, that won’t happen again in our lifetime. Nowadays getting promoted is always about survival, just as getting relegated is all about bouncing straight back up within two seasons max, preferably one. After that it gets really difficult, as so many clubs have found out. I’m with you on surviving this season and then letting Rafa loose with the real money. Mid table will be a an achievement imo and like you say, anything more is a real bonus.
