News in the Chronicle coming through is that as well as Jacob Murphy undergoing a medical at Carton House in Dublin, so it Javier Manquillo of Atletico Madrid who only today has been linked with Newcastle wanting to sign him.
There was news that broke only this morning that Newcastle were very close to signing Atletico Madrid right-back Javier Manquillo and this could be the second time in two summers we have signed an Atletico full-back after signing Jesus Gamez last summer.
Well, it looks like the report in Mundo Deportivo today which says Javier will sign for three seasons is all true, because Lee Ryder of the Chronicle is now reporting Javier is now in Dublin to undergo his medical.
Well – would you believe it – we could get two players through the door in one day.
The report was that Rafa Benitez had been key to the move and the 23 year-old was on loan at Sunderland last season where he played 22 times with one goal for the Black Cats.
The pace is picking up on recruitment at Newcastle and that’s great!
Javier Manquillo also set for#nufc switch

No news on how much we will pay for him but he has only one year left on his contract and it f we were to hazard a guess we’d say around £6M?
Wild guess.
Maybe?
How much do you think he would cost?
Comments welcome.

Comment #5Work with a few Mackems. They blame Moyes for playing him out of position instead of dropping billy jones. I really think we should reserve judgement. He cant be that bad if he has played for spain u21.

I know he played for Norwich and not MK Dons but I would love this kid to be the next Deli Alli ( Still mad as hell that Cashley didn’t give us a few million to get Deli) lets hope so, I have a feeling we will get two more in by this time next week. Fingers Crossed
I didn’t think this would be one of them, but I guess Rafa knows something we don’t and can do what the Scum couldn’t and get the best out of this lad.

Comment #10I agree he didn’t look great at the Mackems, however, he has looked pretty handy elsewhere. If Rafa likes him, he’s alright by me.

Comment #12Reilly, there’s a lot of reasons why a player can struggle at a club, especially foreign ones at awful shiithole clubs with Scottish managers they struggle to understand. No surprise that this lad is good mates with Perez and his brother, and having a manager and coach who speaks your language can’t hurt his chances of settling in. Coupled with the fact Rafa rates the kid must boost his confidence. I can’t image he’d be anything other than a squad player initially but Rafa has a decent record of spotting potential.

Don’t forget, he was used out of position, by a hopeless manager, in a failing team. He might turn out to be a gem for us

Comment #14I hope now that we aren’t just signing players for the sake of it. I trust Rafa’s judgement in Manquillo’s case since the mackems and moyes are both inept and could have easily underused the guy but the Diego Rolan deal sounds a looooot like Riviere. Poor stats in one of the weaker leagues with no prem league experience whatsoever. How is he an improvement over Murphy who has a much better goals/min stat despite starting only on a few occasions?. Not to mention he has experience in England.

I don’t see the 9 out of 11 right from last season’s signings.
Sels, Lazaar, Gamez were non existent duds
Hanley and Murphy did a job when called upon but struggling to get rid of now
Diame is a strange one, I expected big things from him bit he was useless more often than decent. The only thing I can put that down to is him playing out of position. I wouldn’t call him a success based on last season though.
The rest were good, very good or extremely good

Comment #35People that havnt seen him play but still slating him before he’s even been unveiled….Sounds about right. Jheeze, I think Rafa has probably already done abit of research on him before bringing him in and not just gone on wiki. More competition for places, the hungrier the players will be. Maybe nows a decent time to start being abit more positive and optimistic.

Comment #37I’ll reserve judgement on all players Rafa brings in, didn’t expect much at all from Clark given how poor Villa had been, the lad has became arguably our best cb.
Rather a so-so player become an excellent signing than a highly rated one fail to perform.
