Newcastle In For 23 Year-Old International Left Back with £17.6M Release Clause

This could be a breakthrough transfer day for Newcastle with both Jacob Murphy of Norwich and Atletico Madrid right back Javier Manquillo, who played on loan at Sunderland last season during their relegation season, both having medicals in Dublin with a view to signing for Newcastle United.

A number of fans are questioning Javier’s performances for Sunderland last season, but we have to remember Ciaran Clark had a poor relegation season with Aston Villa yet he was completely outstanding for us last season after Rafa signed him for only£5M last summer.

We will trust Rafa’s judgment on Javier who played over 20 times for the Liverpool first team in the previous sedans so he cannot be that bad.

23 year-old Real Betis Danish International left-back Riza Durmesi

He’s also played for every single Spanish youth side including 7 times for the Spanish U21 side and with Rafa’s many contacts he will know all about this player.

And the latest news coming from Calcio Mercato out of Italy is that Newcastle are linked with 23 year-old Real Betis full-back Riza Durmesi.

Durmesi was born in Ishøj, Denmark and he currently has 15 caps for Denmark.

He is quite small at 5ft 6 ins – the same height as former right-back Vurnon Anita – but he has played for all the Denmark youth sides.

It was only last summer that Riza penned a five-year contract with the La Liga club who paid his €2M release clause in his previous Brondby contract.

In his Real Betis contract they have inserted a buyout clause of €20M (£17.6M) so best of luck at getting any club to pay that for the Dane.

However, there was news in January that Liverpool were thinking of activating the player’s release clause of €20M, so he must be a fairly good player if Liverpool were thinking of paying that much for him.

The report claims the Magpies are preparing a bid of around €10M (£8.8M) for the 23 year-old and that could be our first bid in attempting to sign this young left back.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

    I had the “Snide remark”?

“it’s all your fault for attacking him with cold, hard facts” – I was replying to this!

Unless this is not about my comment on Manquillo.

Here’s my take on a signing like Manquillo. By the sounds of things Rafa is here for the long term, all dependent on Mikey keeping his word. He obviously has a vision of how he wants to achieve success and imo we have to accept it’s not going to be achieved overnight. In an ideal world we would have liked to see a World class RB come in with Yedlin as back up but maybe Rafas big money signing will be elsewhere. Yedlin needs competition for his place and this lad will do nicely for the time being.

    C dog,
I don’t think it was your ill informed comment on the state of English youth football that got you branded a racist but that outlandish outburst of English piss you blurted out.

Jail, stop being silly and calling people racist because they don’t rate English football. Anyway Rafa was on the radio. Was asked a bit about Madrid and got a bit short with the interviewer. Unfortunately no depth. Interviewer in fairness is a good moderate guy. He suggested reading between the lines that Rafa isn’t happy with the support from Ashley and wud have expected better players. On face value today’s signing at full back might back that up. I think we need better players and soon. Also given the tight budget, Rafa can’t afford to get it wrong and buy dross like Sels again. More money please fat guy.

Ashley’ll have to pay through the nose for striped jim-jams – Jail’s got the market tied up. That reminds me, has the verdict been delivered in Ashley’s recent court appearance? Ffs, he seems to think millions are small change!

Bobby……. Aye, let’s see what the season brings and we’ll start with another 5-1 over Sperz, just to get things off to a good start.

So Rafa can’t afford to get it wrong, luckily there are a long list of managers who get every signing right so Rafa should just be able to follow their formula.

    Good evening Runaway,
Aye, I’m quite upbeat about the signings, like I’ve said I think Rafa’s blueprint isn’t an overnight job and it’ll be over a couple of seasons till he gets the team he wants. He knows some top managers have been here over the last twenty odd years and failed to get a trophy, I think he’s got his heart set on changing that. Whatever he’s spoken to Ashley about has left him feeling satisfied otherwise he wouldn’t be here. If Ashley sticks to his side of the bargain we’re in for a taste of history.

I wonder what rafa can see in the kid
That others seem to have missed ?

I wish him well but dont know anything about him tbh.

He sure slipped under the radar well only linked as he was on route to his medical.

What is he back up for yedlin ?

    Young enough to learn

Thats if the time with the unwashed hasnt left him damaged goods.

    In rafa we trust..

Runaway, in fairness to Ojo I think he’s got a good future ahead of him, just not quite ready for the PL or Liverpool would use him more. I think he’s more likely to get games at Fulham which must have been the swinger. He’s a southern boy isn’t he? Didn’t Liverpool get him from down there somewhere? If so that also might explain the choice ahead of Boro as well.

    Magspuggy,
I’d like to think that the lad will bust a gut in training to make sure that he gets Yedlin place, who in turn won’t take his foot off the gas gor a single second in case this lad gets the RB slot.
Also I still don’t see how Gamez was a flop, he was brought in for his age and experience and the fact he could cover the back four. Having him lurking in the background ensured Dummet, Anita and Yedlin played out of their skins all season and that the Lascells Clarke partnership never would have had to be broken to cover an injury to Dummet. How many times have we seen our defenders not give a shite because they knew they’d be on the team sheet the following week regardless.

Rafa can’t wave a magic wand and turn all our players into class acts, we’re all over the moon Rafa is here but don’t expect miracles mate, not in a couple of seasons anyway, it could take years to make a top six club and that’s only a if Mash keeps his word and digs deep.

Jail, been saying all along that Rafa is here for a while mate. Which is why I said he’ll sign an extension to his contract, because he simply can’t reach his goals in three years – especially since relegation intervened. Looks like relegation might end up working in our favour, which ISN’T something I believed at the time. As the god squad might say ‘the Lord works in mysterious ways’ 🙂

Re transfers given what looks like a poor ish budget that is making us shop in Iceland so far, yes Rafa can’t afford to waste money. It’s annoying that we can’t seem to go for an ienacho type but we can only hope for best. Am a bit underwhelmed with the full back even if I trust Rafa to improve him.
