It was a good day in the transfer market yesterday for Newcastle as we had two players fly into Dublin to take their medicals and sign on the dotted line for Newcastle.
22 year-old Norwich winger Jacob Murphy and 23 year-old Atletico Madrid Javier Manquillo were both completing their medicals in a Dublin city center hospital.
Hopefully, they will be both announced as Newcastle players today.
22 year-old Jacob Murphy – a Newcastle player today
So in one day – today – we should double our signings to four players this summer, which is a lot better than just two – but we still need at least three first team players brought in at a minimum.
That’s a lot better than just two – but we still need at least three first team players brought in at a minimum.
This is what the Newcastle manager had to say about new boy Jacob Murphy yesterday in the Chronicle:
“It’s the type of player we are looking for.”
“It’s not that we are signing the top class players of the Premier League, we are signing the players we can.”
“We are signing the players that can do a job for us.” “I am really pleased with him because he has shown character and personality.”
“His desire to play for Newcastle United was there.”
“Sometimes when you are looking for players you are wondering if they are technically good enough.”
“Or if they have pace or score goals or what they are like technically or tactically.”
“In this case is the main thing is he has pace and can score goals and pass.”
“We’ll see if he can reproduce his performances from the Championship in the Premier League.”
“But he wants to play for Newcastle United and that is a huge advantage.”
“I am sure he will be working so hard in front of our fans in every single game.”
“He’ll help the team and help competition in the team.”
Jacob should become a popular player on Tyneside if only because he was a fan of Newcastle while growing up and he really wanted to play for Newcastle and he let his agents and Norwich know that quite clearly.
It was his determination to play for Newcastle that helped the deal go through over the last couple of days.
It will be great to have Jacob on board.
