Newcastle Striker Set To Leave The Club Imminently

Nottingham Forest are currently holding advanced talks with Newcastle with well-respected striker Daryl Murphy before he makes an expected £2M transfer from Newcastle to the City Ground.

The report is in the Nottingham Post and says that Daryl – who scored a good six goals for Newcastle in the Championship last season – will be offered a two-year contract.

We expect Daryl to leave Newcastle this summer, if only because he would do a good job at any Championship club looking for promotion next season.

He was great for Newcastle last season in the 18 appearances he made and he scored a good 6 goals with one assist.

Daryl Murphy in action for Newcastle last season

When top scorer Dwight Gayle was injured early in the year with his hamstring problem, in came Daryl and he scored some important goals for us as well as being a first class professional, who was a positive voice in the dressing room.

The Nottingham Post are reporting that Murphy, who is at the Newcastle training camp at Carton House in Dublin this week, could even have a medical by Saturday ahead of a transfer to the City Ground.

It looks like Newcastle have agreed on the £2M fee which is reasonable, but Sunderland and Birmingham City are also keen on the player and Daryl may want to talk to all three clubs if they meet Newcastle’s £2M asking price.

Certainly, Daryl will leave Newcastle with sincere thanks from the Geordie fans for helping us get promoted last season.

He’s a good footballer and a good man.

Comments welcome.

    On Daryl Murphy,

Why do we assume we paid £5M upfront for him?

Take Jacob Murphy, £10M now and £2M in add ons, so is he a £10M or £12M signing?

I would guess we paid £3Mish for Daryl Murphy with add ons which we haven’t paid so at £2M its decent business for a 34yr old + he scored crucial points winning goals for us last season.

    On Anita,

I understand exactly why Rafa let him go. Its not Anita’s size that is the problem, Kante is one of the best midfielders in the world and he is head to head with Anita. Anita’s problem is that he has no aggression in his game and without that he is far too lightweight for the average size of MF in the Prem. When him and Colwell were in MF last time out in the Prem we were a walk over in the centre of the park. Even at right back in the Prem his lack of aggression and inability to defend in the air means he is just not up to it at that level. Very good technical player but that isn’t enough and that’s why Rafa has let him go IMO.

    On our midfield,

In my past time on here I constantly made the point that we were powderpuff in MF without Tiote, the only true DM we had in the squad, and the only one who in any way put the fear physically into the oppo. 60%-70% of the play in a game takes place in the middle of the park and that is where teams dominate or play second fiddle in a game.

We still don’t have a replacement for Tiote, God bless him, and if we don’t get one we will struggle again to out muscle not only the top teams but those near the bottom too. That’s why we looked so poor at times even when we were winning games in the Championship. Other than the 6.0 at QPR I can’t think of many other games when we really dominated and outplayed the oppo.

A top DM is an absolute priority signing IMO.

    On our strikers,

Gayle is a natural goalscorer and the closest thing to Jermain Defoe we’ll get. Defoe, whilst good in his younger days became even better with age and I can see Gayle continuing to improve as well. He’ll be fine in the Prem as a good first choice or brilliant second.

Mitro, doesn’t in any way deserve the hero worship he gets from some fans. For £14M he’s been a big disappointment and not being a regular in the Champs says it all about how Rafa sees him. I don’t think Rafa will give him the time to see if he can dramatically improve this season and see him being sold, and rightly, if we can get even £10M-£12M for him.

Batshuayi, the bookies aren’t often dead wrong and there has to be a reason why we are short favourites to sign him. Could it be that the reason Abrahams didn’t come here is because a deal in principle has already been done for Batshuayi and therefore Chelsea knew that with Gayle also as competition Abrahams wouldn’t be guaranteed a starting place? If Morata signs for Chelsea that might just be the trigger that allows Batshuayi to come here.

Teams get relegated from the Prem, not through conceding too many goals, but by not scoring enough. It’s the only reason (plus getting 6pts a season off us) why Sunderland survived as long as they did – Defoe’s goals.

The £8M/£10M signings + money from sales will leave money in the pot for at least one BIG signing – I hope that signing is Batshuayi. He’s had a season in the Prem, scored a high ratio of goals to starts, and is a real class act. With him, Gayle and Ritchie we should have enough goals in the side to stay up + Jacob Murphy, Atsu, Perez and the big lads at the back can weigh in with a few as well.

    On a goalkeeper,

The way I see it Rafa wants Elliot as a back up and Woodman in the wings developing quickly to perhaps challenge for no.1 next season. That means Krul and Darlow are surplus and he wants a big, strong experienced keeper who can be an influence on the field and in the dressing room. That’s why he wanted Reina, I’m sure someone in his mould will come in and Krul and Darlow will be off.

    My prediction for the season,

A solid mid-table, around 12th but if its outside of that position I’d like to think we’d be pushing around 10th than below 12th.

Good luck to Murphy, hope it works out for him, those saying he was a waste of money need to give there heads a shake. His goals essentially got us promotion which is worth a lot more than the 2m we are missing out on.

Jail – no Murphy isn’t a dud because he actually contributed. He actually got game time and wasn’t hidden away like Gamez or not trusted like Gamez. Big difference, you keep convincing yourself that Gamez is a success, he played less games than Sels so must mean Sels is also a success along with Lazaar.

As for hull yes they beat those teams you listed, now revise that list and how many of those teams beaten were when Phelan was manager? Silva did a stellar job but we didn’t play them when he was manager

I don’t think morata signing will have an affect on batshuayi future. They’ve already come out and said Costa can go, morata is his replacement, they let solanke go to Liverpool and Abraham has gone to Swansea, unless they plan to buy another back up striker I think batshuayi will stay

    Cheers for that link Jib,
Nice to see Rafa smiling. Jacob Murphy looked a little shy in those photos of f him with Rafa. Hope you prove the doubters wrong lad!

Chelsea are interested in aguero aswell aren’t they? So may still be a chance on Batshuayi if that’s true

And I agree with you on DM role, it’s crucial we get a proper DM in like tiote, Carvalho would be very nice but would he come here?

I understand the need for another keeper, a better all round keeper, lb needed, no10 and striker. The 2 positions in hoping we spend big are DM and ST. Looks like we are you going to make a nice 8m this week from sales, I read Gibson is in excess of 6m which is good money for us at this moment in time

    Shirebrook

Man citeh won’t let aguero leave for another PL team. They are signing morata because they lost out on lukaku, PEA and aguero.

Mansoor has already said they will not sell aguero and pep has come out and said he’s not going anywhere either. That could change if they sign Mbappe though

£2M just isn’t for a proven championship player who could increase a clubs chances of securing promotion. Forest have money in the bank and the Mackams are desperate. I’d hold out until I got all my money back and maybe more in light of the ridiculous market we are in. Murphy will get 15+ goals next season if he plays regularly.

What we lack is a creative number 10 and a target Man striker who can play. I’ve given up on Mitrovic being the latter, time to love him on.

As ridiculous as this sounds since none of the so called top sides are in for Barkley we should offer £25-30M for him or preferably a one year loan with option to buy so we can finance it after the lump sum next summer. he’s surplus now at Everton. Then go for Bas Dost as our target man, the closer to the window the more the price will come down for him, I’d take Slimani as a back up. Anyone discounting Slimani because his goals to games ratio is clueless, he’s a proper centre forward and could thrive if he played regularly.

No chance of that one happening Shirebrook. Man City told them to ferk off. So I think that’s why they’re now signing Morata. I’m guessing Batshit will be staying at Chelsea as back up.

Definitely agree with other posters on DM, I are Hanley but I think having 2 good DM sitting would give us lots more flexibility. Carvalho would be perfect, he can do abbot of everything and would be great for Hanley development. Realistically he’s probably out of our reach though. Fernando would be good but probably on massive wages.

I can see Rafa wanting to play 2 DM for away games and try to keep it super tight and nick a goal through our pace in counter attack. Colback/Diame clearly not good enough to play there and not a good fit for Shelvey.
