Which Of These Four Goalkeepers Should Rafa Sign For Newcastle?

Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez is keen to bring in another goalkeeper to Newcastle and we assume he wants an experienced goalkeeper.

We currently have Rob Elliot, Karl Darlow and the very promising 20 year-old England U20 goalkeeper Freddie Woodman, with Matz Sels on loan for the season at Anderlecht.

Tim Krul is up for sale so his career at Newcastle seems to be over.

32 year-old 42 times capped Greek International goalkeeper Orestis Karnezis

We have been linked with 30 year-old West Ham goalkeeper Darren Randolph but he seems no better than the goalkeepers we already have.

Rafa is linked with 30 year-old Spanish goalkeeper Kiko Casilla who he signed for Real Madrid back in the summer of 2015 after Casilla has spent his early years at the Madrid powerhouse.

Another goalkeeper we have been linked with is another West Ham’s Spanish goalkeeper Adrian – according to reports in the Mirror.

Since West Ham have now signed England goalkeeper Joe Hart on loan for the season they can let one of their goalkeepers leave – especially if they want to get first team games and make their World Cup squads for next summer in Russia.

We have also been linked with former Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina but we are assuming that soap opera is over and he will stay at Napoli.

To cover all the bases we were linked with 32 year-old Udinese goalkeeper Orestis Karnezis earlier in the summer and Karnezis has 42 caps for Greece.

So of these four goalkeepers please pick the one you think Rafa Benitez should sign for Newcastle?

Love you Rafa, but goalkeepers aren’t our most pressing need at the moment.
An experienced goal scorer up front and a playmaker no.10 have got to be priorities.
Any money left – then start looking at goalies.

Jib to be fair I think I totally miss understood Jaspers post.
But perhaps that was your point – I can never tell if that sharp tongue of yours is in your cheek or not!

My priorities would be first a goalkeeper – as I don’t rate our keepers – all might be great shot stoppers but there is a lot more than shot stopping – all above average but not outstanding.

    i) We need a keeper that can command his six yard box come and either punch it or better catch and be able to throw it to one of our players to set up a attack.

ii) And be able to play the ball out/comfortable with his feet and pass to our players

which none our keepers are capable of

I have to say I’m sad that Krul seems to be moving on – he’s been a loyal servant at NUFC but why on earth should we want West Hams cast offs? If they are not good enough for them why are they considered good enough for Newcastle? If we are not to get a keeper of Reina’s “class” I’d rather stick with Elliot, Darlow & Woodman!

Fear not Mag52, Rafa is well aware of who we require and knows what he’s doing.
I think he’s trying to get others in first for as cheap as possible so he knows exactly what he’s got to spend on those crucial positions.
Haggling has saved us about six million so far, even though it meant fans getting frustrated and saying ‘just pay the money’. That money will go towards further funding the more costly players we need.
The six we just got for the young lad the same.
It’s a tough window for the three coming up and we’re no different. Be patient mate, signings are coming.

Yes, Rafa’s preference is for a commanding presence in goal. Let’s hope he doesn’t make another mistake like Sels!

John/ Tsunki a few days ago.

I think Timmy has been our best goalkeeper since Given. Watched him in many away games where he secured us a point or two. His distribution not the best but those who rate Darlow haven’t seen Krul.

Superb performance in second half at Spurs a few seasons back got us the three points. Class act and I wish him well.
Can’t disagree on West Ham cast off’s.

I’d still like Reina, he can help Woodman become the keeper we think he can in a few years, also Elliot will learn off him too. He has experience, he has the respect and he has the kudos to make a huge difference to the team,
The four you have suggested are all no better, and certainly not respected leaders in their field.

I think we put ourselfs in the position of needing a GK. We need one with good feets. Krul and Darlow cant handle the ball by their feets. I am still really hoping for Reina!!!
