With the transfers out that Rafa Benitez and Lee Charnley have been able to do so far this summer Rafa has an extra £13M (our estimate) to spend on top of the rumored £70M, he has been given by Mike Ashley up front.
Daryl Murphy has gone to Nottingham Forest for £2M and 17-year-old Lewis Gibson is about to sign for Everton after Rafa accepted their bid – and that would add another £6M to the money Rafa has available.
And with the Chronicle reporting that Aleksandar Mitrovic is up for sale and Newcastle are wanting around £16M for him – there’s still more money to come in for Rafa to spend this summer.
Rafa Benitez can generate more funds with outgoing transfers
Other players who could bring some transfer funds into the club include Manu Riviere, Achraf Lazaar, and Henri Saivet.
While we got off to a really slow start early in the summer things seem to be picking up and it’s still possible for Rafa to bring in say eight good first team players this summer – we so far have brought in half that number.
It seems the next incoming transfers could be for a striker and hopefully a playmaker.
This is what Rafa said when asked in the Chronicle today about bringing in a striker:
“We are trying to change some players.”
“We have to wait to see the right offers and then after we will see if we can add some players.”
“I think we need some more players.” “I wouldn’t say how many, but it also depends on the market.”
“Mike convinced me he would give us the last penny of the money available.”
“We are not asking for more, we are asking for the money we can use.” “We can generate some more money.
“Hopefully we can do that.”
We like the way Rafa keeps dropping hints about what Mike Ashley promised him at their meeting on Tuesday, May 9th and all Rafa is asking for is that the owner keeps his word.
We think Mike will do exactly that but some fans simply don’t trust the owner – with good reason we should add.
Here is the current state of things of players coming in and moving out and we have moved nine players out permanently this summer and once young Gibson moves out we have a net spend of only £10.5M.

I’m not sure if Mitro will be sold, we still need another striker as it is so to find another two with less than a month to kick off is a bit of a tall order. I still think.he can be usefully to change a game off the bench and to try and show that he deserves a starting place.

Comment #2Saviet..haidira…riverie carrs final French legacy need shipping out before we can replace them. 3 very weak positions at the mo
Krul or darlow go, than Expect a keeper. A very unclear position at mo.
If the anderlecht duo of mbemba and mitro can be replaced than we really are laughing our way to the bank
Let’s not forget the benetiz mishaps. …gamez and lazaar won’t see a second of Pl action and most def need shipping. I wouldn’t be too upset if diame got replaced by a new no.10 too.
It’s all logic but a lot of coming and going is still needed.
A spine of elliot lascalles shelvey Gayle is not good enough

Comment #3Actually, options for buying a striker are diminishing every day. I don’t rate Arnautovich that highly, and it looks like he’s going to fetch £24 million fee and £100,000 a week!
Maybe that Basdost deal is looking more reasonable? Stupid, stupid money. God help us when we have to start renegotiating contracts for our ‘pauper’ stars.

I don’t think they were mishaps
There was always going to be more for the club from Gamez after he retired.
It now looks a strong possibility he could join Rafa’s coaching team.
Lazaar is still rated in Italy and most clubs in Serie A would consider a season
under the tutelage of Rafa as a plus.
He could still be used as a makeweight in a deal.

gamez was never bought as a player…rafa likes to bring in players who are experienced with his philosophy in order to get the message across with the players as part of the team…he did the same with every team he’s managed including Liverpool. Don’t recall the players off the top of my head now…
