Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez needs to bring in a striker and a playmaker this summer and those could be big money buys, but Rafa is still keen to bring up to eight first team players into his squad for the coming season back in the Premier League.
At the moment we have spent a net of only £10.5M so if there is indeed £70M available plus what we can get by selling players – there still seems to be a lot of money available for some big money buys at Newcastle this summer.
One midfielder we have been linked with fairly closely in January and would come at a reasonable price is Sam Clucas of relegated Hull City.
Sam had a very good season for the Tigers last season playing 43 games and scoring 3 goals for the relegated club and he was one of the few successes for Hull City last season and it looks like he could be available for around £12M.
26 year-old left midfielder Sam Clucas
The Mirror are reporting Newcastle UNited are one of the clubs interested in signing the left-sided midfielder.
The report is that Hull want £12M for Sam but it will depend on just how much Rafa rates Clucas as to whether we go after the 6ft 2ins tall midfielder.
Sam joined Hull City from Chesterfield in July of 2015 on a three-year for around £1.3M and since then he has played 93 times for the Tigers with 9 goals and has played 37 times in the Premier League this season.
Sam was born in Lincoln and started his career as a youth player for Leicester City when he was just 10 years old and he stayed there for six years.
He then joined his hometown club Lincoln but was released in 2010 after just one first team performance for the club.
In late 2011 he joined Hereford United and stayed there for a couple of years before joining Mansfield Town where he also stayed for two years before joining Chesterfield in 2014.
In July 2015 he signed on at Hull City on a three-year deal and he has done extremely well playing at the Humberside club over the last couple of years.
Sam can play on the left wing, left wing-back or left back so he seems to be a versatile enough player and that could be an attraction for Rafa.
He was given a contract extension at Hull last year and his contract now runs through the end of June 2019.
This lad could be worth £12M to Newcastle, but that decision lies with Rafa Benitez.
What do you think?

As for Clucas, would be a decent signing if we could get him for around £12 million, played well when I saw him last season

Comment #7This lad doesn’t seem very good to me. Really want us to go for Adama Traore. But we desperately need a goalscoring midfielder. But who is the question. We’re in the same predicament when it comes to ST. Really hope Rafa still has at least 40m to spend on these two positions we need bolstering up immediately.
