Rafa Benitez Still Hopeful Of Buying And Selling More Players This Summer

Newcastle have moved 10 players out this summer and eight of those outgoings are permanent with the other two being Matz Sels and Adam Armstrong on season loan deals to Anderlecht and Bolton Wanderers respectively.

Rafa is reported in the Chronicle to have wanted to bring in eight first team players this summer and so far he has four players come in – with two arriving last week in Jacob Murphy and Javier Manquillo;  both players played their first games for the club at Deepdale yesterday in our second pre-season friendly.

We now have four more friendlies in the next couple of weeks with two of those games being in Germany.

Things seem to be picking up and last night we were reported to be trying to hijack West Ham’s pending deal for 26-year-old Senegal International midfielder Badou N’Diaye.

After the game yesterday afternoon – when we drew 1-1 at Deepdale – Rafa seemed to be hopeful he could move players out and bring more players in.

He also said he was in constant communication with the Newcastle hierarchy on transfers – presumably with Lee Charnley and owner Mike Ashley – which is good to hear.

Lee and Mike need to support Rafa with everything they have got (and that includes every last penny Mike has got) this summer.

Here’s some of what Rafa said after the game as reported in the Chronicle:

“Hopefully, we’re close to making signings, but I don’t know. We will have to wait and see.”

“We (Rafa and the club’s hierarchy) are in contact all the time. We still have time.”

“We have too many players now, so not all of these players can have a future at the club,”

“We have too many now and we need 25 players. I I don’t know about those leaving, because it depends on other clubs, but we continue to monitor every situation.”

As a reminder here are the ins and outs at Newcastle so far this summer – 10 players out and four players in with Lewis Gibson’s move to Everton for £6M still pending.

Plenty left in the pot for when the market sorts itself out.

Hopefully bag a striker this week and start to see some players leave the club to make space for new blood .

Apart from goalkeepers I think the only one’s we are actively looking to move on are Hanley, Lazaar, Saivet, Rivière and Haidara. A couple of others may go if we have good offers and a better replacement in mind. We have plenty of time. I think we have to be realistic and expect that we will still be doing business at the end of the window when prices have settled. We only have 3 of our 38 games before the end of August. Other teams will be doing the same. Patience required…

    My comment

At the moment we are relegation contenders for sure

Saviet..colback. .Hanley. .mbemba..mitro..haidira..lazaar..gamez… riverie. ..all need to go

l.b. c.m. and cb and St needed. A lot of incoming and outgoings

Clearly gk is seen as a problem too…we basically need a new spine of tbe team…not good.

Manqluillo..Murphy..astu..legune are nothing to get too excited about.

    Your comment

Fostino: If you want to play Football Manager you can buy a copy herehttp://www.footballmanager.com/.

If you want to discuss the real thing I suggest trying to visualize it from Rafa’s point of view. Depending on your intelligence level and exposure to football management you may find it difficult but your experience on here (and everyone else’s) will be all the more rewarding!

I do not appreciate your smart arse comment. You have been sprouting a lot of your opinion on the blog today and I hope you have not got the same smart arse response that you have gave me. It turns me off the blog really.

If your were to analyse rafa dealings last year you’d find he bought 11 new players and moved on 20 through selling or loans. Are you going to suggest he should play championship manager as well.

I am pretty Confident that most fans on here and rafa himself would happily see most of the players I’ve mentioned move on if he could get their replacements. Can it be done…it migbt be very hard to find takers for some of these players but last year certainly proved rafa not afraid to move players in or out. Taught id make you aware of this.

geordiemark do you honestly think Mike Ashley is stopping Rafa spending? Rafa has a pot of money and is probably spending it wisely so expect more signings to come.

Sorry for being English and supporting an English team, I really must do better. ? So, if you ain’t British – of which I’m proud to be – wtf are you bothering with us for?
You’ve picked the wrong team pal. We’ve won nowt in 50 years, yet still pack the place out. It’s called PRIDE in your city and surrounding area. It’s not all about winning, but you simply don’t get it. Crikey, wherever you’re from, you’re an embarrassment to your country. Actually, don’t even bother telling us, I doubt anybody cares.
Thank you though. I’m so glad you ain’t one of us.
That’s why so many on here thought you were a mackem. It explains a lot actually.
Then again, if you don’t like the British that much, you know where the door is. That’s more than once you’ve made anti British comments now I come to think of it. Why come here if you don’t like us? Nobody’s asking you to stay you know. We don’t do racism on here and you’re a racist.

Rafa has the money its a set amount that both he and mash are happy with
    He said so himself.

He also said he wont be going cap in hand asking for more.

We have money just not a bottomless pit and we need a few players from it.

Cant blame ashley this time not atm.

Agree that those are the players we are looking to ship out along with a few others just depends on what other teams are offering.By the time friendlies start coming to an end and players get hurt and teams have needs will probably make it easier.

On another note now that we have sold this Gibson lad what has happened to Barlaser haven’t seen him spoke about or used in friendlies weren’t a Turkish club in for him at one point?

The Wilshere link is one I wouldn’t mind but also had another player I think would be decent but don’t know the price and that is Nasri looked sharp in the limited action he has seen for City during their preseason

Dead simple innit mags? Spelled out in black and white, but still people struggle with it. If we fail this season, it’s down to Rafa, like it or not.
That’s why we need to sit back and let him get on with his job, because for the first time in years we’ve got somebody who knows what he’s doing. Every player he brings in he has a specific use for.
He won’t fail though. He’ll do it his way and he’ll deserve all the credit he gets. Onwards and upwards.

Within a year or so the changes rafas making will start to pay out.

We will have young players coming through and a first team squad thats playing outta its skin because they are scared of getting dropped.

Sky money to buy and pay wages and we wont need cash off fattie.

All we have to do is stay up and let the manager do it.

We stand at the start of a long road but it will be worth it.

    Exciting times ahead.

It’s funny, on paper, reina, carvalho and Batschuyai / Iheanacho and job done. Sadly no chance on any.

In reality, linked with randolph (near miss) clucas, adrian and rolan. Hardly sets pulses racing.

Still also lumbered with colback, riviere, haidara, saivet, mitro.

It’s funny when hall and KK were in tandem there seemed no problem attracting good players from anywhere.

Apart from at least now having a world class manager, has Ash learnt nothing?

Just finished watching the full 90 minute replay of yesterday’s match. Mitro gets slated on here by many, but he was the best player on the pitch in the first half by a distance. I think most post match analyses / ratings agree.

just watched the PNE game on NUFC.

Looked like a training game to me, don’t know if it was the small crowd but I didn’t get the impression of much excitement.

Plenty of running about and it looked as if we had the more clear cut chances and missed some fairly easy ones..

PNE possibly had as many chances but our defense coped ok on the whole and made it harder for them.

No commentary from NUFC which made it difficult to see who was playing a lot of the time.

Have to say Diame looks better mid field than he did up front last season. And where is Hayden is he injured.

Agree, he looks a bit leaner and quicker, though speed is still not his main asset. But his first touch and hold up play make him an excellent target man. I still think we need a quality 3rd striker though.

I thought Mitro’s hold up play was pretty good, he did have a golden chance to get a second goal but made a right hash of it, but I suppose that’ll happen with most strikers in games.

    N’Diaye is a Senegales international
    Boudabouz an Algerian international

N’Diaye is a more attacking M/F and plays in the the quite physical Turkish Superlig
and is often used as a striker – his goals ratio is 1/3

Boudabouz is an aggressive defending M/F when required but has always played in France

After watching the full 90 mins something I find strange is Rafa wants/wanted wingers yet our play we tend to ignore them constantly. Atsu made many runs in behind and was ignored as was Murphy when he came on.

Aarons looks like he has lost a yard of pace couldn’t out run his man. Mbemba making a shout for next season thought he played well again today and was unlucky not to score. Mitro played well still think the number 10 we get needs to be quick for knock ons Mitro wins De Jong is to far away. Perez is shite i’d keep Mitro over him everyday of the week.

Overall a nothing game really we looked as good as them hopefully as the games go on we will look better, right now we are still playing the same sideways/backwards and hit and hope balls forward. Works well in the champ but that league is shite. Fingers crossed for the main signings now take the team forward.
