There’s news in the Sun today that not only is Rafa Benitez still interested in signing 26-year-old left-sided midfielder Sam Clucas from Hull City – but that Newcastle could possibly be launching a bid soon and get the Tigers’ midfielder for as low as £4M.
Previously, when we have been linked with the midfielder a transfer fee of between £8M and £12M has been talked about – so this is a really low figure.
Certainly, after Sam had one of his best seasons ever last season and in the Premier League too – he was one of Hull’s few stars in their relegation season and he would seem worth every penny of that.

The report is that Rafa is now keen to sign the midfielder especially when he could be available at a bargain basement price.
Sam is also reported to be keen to stay playing in the Premier League next season and an England cap may even be in his future after the England manager Gareth Southgate recently said that Sam was an interesting player he was keeping tabs on.
Rafa is keen to bring in a number of players this summer – as many as eight first team players – and if he’s to do that successfully with our limited transfer budget – then we need to make some bargain buys.
But the manager will also need to pay out in excess of £20M for maybe two or even three players (> £20M each) if Rafa is to have the class and experience he wants in the Newcastle squad for our reentry into the Premier League.
Clucas is a versatile player who usually plays as a left-sided midfielder but he can also play in central midfield and under the guidance of Rafa, this lad could become a much better player than he is today.
Certainly, he is motivated and has something to prove in the Premier League after he has spent most of his career in the lower leagues of England.
Let’s hope he wants to come to Newcastle – because if he does – he would seem the perfect player Rafa is searching for this summer.
Not to Rafa and Lee – go get this player and soon too!
