Last night’s game at Valley Parade was a friendly game to further the growing relationship between the two clubs as we lend out some of our top youngsters to Bradford City and Rafa has even said he will visit the Valley Parade club to see how they coach the lads.
Newcastle fielded our best side last night so we should not get carried away with the 4-0 result and on the other hand, Bradford fans shouldn’t get downhearted by the loss.
We are likely to keep this fixture on the map at Newcastle for a few pre-seasons as hopefully the good relationship between the two clubs gets even better for the mutual benefit of both clubs
53-year-old Bradford Coty manager Stuart McCall in his office
Stuart McCall has been talking to the local Telegraph & Argus paper and the Leeds-born 53-year-old is down to earth and truthful about what happened last night – especially in the second half:
“It’s a difficult watch for the punters because they want to see us attacking and going forward. The realisation is when you know what you’re up against and the quality.”
“They had strength and pace all over the park and you saw Jonjo Shelvey’s passing ability.”
“We were absolutely delighted with the work ethic of the boys in the first half but we were always going to tire.”
“They brought a lot of fresh legs on and we’ve got a few injuries at the minute.” “We knew it was a massive step up, even from Saturday against Sunderland.”
“It’s not enjoyable when you’re on the other end of it. I’ve played in games when you’ve not had a kick of the ball and it’s really tough.”
“But we’re not down about the game. It’s gone and we’ll be positive for the next ten days before we play Blackpool.”
“We played in a way we’ll never, ever play in again, certainly at home.”
“But we knew with their quality, we had to put out a shape which we hoped could subdue them.”
“We did that until they scored two early goals in the second half.”
“It was hard work but I’m pleased we’ve got it out of the way. We knew it was going to be a night like that.”
Rafa will be happy that we now had more pace in the side, which was a requirement this summer to help us in our fast breaks in the Premier League.
The first game in the league is a 1:30 kick-off at home to Tottenham Hotspur at St. James’ Park on Sunday, 13th August.
In the very last game we played in the Premier League in May of last year we hammered Spurs 5-1 at home. and they dropped from second place to third place in the PL and north London rivals Arsenal overtook them – what could be worse than that?
They dropped from second place to third place in the PL because of that defeat and north London rivals Arsenal overtook them – what could be worse than that?
🙂
Last season they finished second in the league to Chelsea and they will no doubt be a real test for us on August 13th – unlucky for some.

Comment #81Cannot see Diame being here by the end of the window. The trouble with our transfer policy is we are not bringing anyone in until we ship someone out. I would prefer to get players in then ship out the dead wood.
When Sels went out on loan Inthought we would have signed another ‘keeper however it would appear another has to go, one of Krul or Darlow. I would ship Krul.

Comment #84Yo…every player has a price and that goes for Darlow as well. I have only heard Rafa saying he wants to keep Darlow…you have heard him say differently you say?
But lets continue this one after the window has closed…then we can go over your “what if list” and we can see where we are…
We need 3 keepers!

Comment #85wish we’d fast tracked gibson to the first team squad. even at 17 he’s probably better than what we have in one of our favourite ”problem” positions..

Comment #86What is it with our fans and Geordie players? Dummett is a very good left back and nobody played more games than him last season so Rafa obviously likes him too. Insulting really to say a 17 year old is better.

Comment #87Gibson is from Liverpool. Doesn’t want to pay for us. Nobody heard of him until a month ago and now suddenly he was our best young talent – pshhhh! Stick my neck out and say he won’t be a PL player in 5 years time.
Merino looks like a real talent from what I’ve seen. Seem to have good blend of attributes and brings something different. Most importantly he looks sophisticated on the ball and has a good eye for a pass and execution. Exactly what Shelvey needs to keep a fire under his arse.

If he says ‘I want Darlow sold’ how do u think that would affect what people were willing to pay for him? Actions speak louder
We can go over urs as well then matesee if we buy Sels mk 2, Elliott gets injured and Woodman leaves
And aye we need 3 keepers…we currently have 4 and actively looking for another, am not sure why ur so worried tbh

Comment #92Wouldn’t of taken any of West Hams signings, prices all too much and wages crazy, £140k for Chicarito? Having a laugh you could get Lucas Perez for same price (£16 million) and for half those wages, plus a far superior player they’ve not got good value from any of them

Comment #93I agree with rafa on the darlow situation, I don’t think he’s anywhere near as good as what ppl are making him out to be. He has to many errors in him as he’s shown both in the PL and in the championship.
The only reason rafa bought in Sels was the mistakes that darlow made in PL. WBA away, Norwich away spurs at home. Then add his championship mistakes in as well and his poor communication and the bloke is prone to make errors

Darlow had nothing to do with why Sels was brought in, he was the best keeper available when we needed a keeper because Elliott and Krul were both injured long term

Don’t know much about Merino and Allan but from what I’ve read both would be good signings.

Comment #96not insulting at all. i can think of a 16 year old rooney who even then was far better than many older players. dummet is solid, but has no x factor, sounds like gibson has it. either way we’ve lost him.
who was / is dummet’s competition, an injured haidara and who else?

Comment #98I hope we keep Mitro in the hope that he matures and develops into a proper CF.
Rafa could be playing the game by giving him the armband as oppose to making it too obvious that he wants to sell him. Most things in life are easier to sell when would be buyers are making the most effort .

Comment #101Im all for geordie players but they have to be the best players for the place they play.
Maybe why im so hard on colback i expect more from him due to him being one of us.
That and the fact he tried to tell us to shhhh at sjp when playing for THEM.
It cant be easy to live up to the expection of us if your home grown but the reward goes without saying..
Hopefully we will start to see more local lads make the grade in the next few years.
We crave a geordie number 9 or at least i do..

I wasnt trying to be insulting? Just when someone says something like that I assume they have seen him play…Ive seen plenty people upset hes left but am yet to find one who has actually watched the lad. I really struggle to care too much about a player I hadnt heard of a month ago leaving when I havent even seen him once and he was no where near the first team
As for Dummetts lack of competition that doesnt mean that a kid should be fast tracked just for the sack of it, hes gone into Evertons under 23s not their first team and for the odd Rooney there are hundreds of great youths who dont make it. Campbell, Streete, Bigi, Vuckic etc etc
Maybe Gibson will make it good luck to him he has a lot better chance at doing it at Everton than here though so its probably good hes made that decision

My apologies, I doubted it myself when I saw somebody claim it, but couldn’t be arsed to fact check. Either way it’s immaterial, he doesn’t want to play for us and will in all likelihood amount to nothing substantial in the game. We’ve stolen £6m if figures are to be believed.

Comment #107How about Jordan Amavi from Aston Villa. A swap with Hanley or Colback plus £3m would seem a good deal. Seville were interested in him until his medical went wrong. If Seville were interested in him I think NUFC should have a look.

Comment #110Gibson wanted to leave so 6 million for him is cracking money.
Tbh at first mention i thought it was his brother not him.
Im more upset at the fact we dont have things in place to make the bairns want to be here than the loss of him.
We need to improve things so the kids can live the dream of coming through and making the 1st team.
Cant blame them for wanting away the way things are atm.

Ah right no worries haha though i was the only one who had replied to u mate
I agree Everton will probably fast track him quicker than we would but they are able to tbh, they have a better youth set up and have a good history of bringing throuigh players plus they are a settled team and arent going through much they are top 10 and thats about it. Time will tell though Gibson has done nothing yet so he might just disappear like so many before especially as Everton have some good LBs already
