Outlet FutbolArena is reporting that Turkish club Osmanlispor is set to sign Newcastle outcast – striker Emmanuel Riviere.
Of all the players who were returning from loan this summer the two we thought would be most difficult to move out were Emmanuel and Henri Saivet.
Both had poor loan spells last season and Riviere had a particularly poor season and didn’t score for Spanish club Osasuna in 17 appearances – but sometimes he wasn’t even on the bench.
Saivet spent his time at Saint-Etienne and they were not impressed and refused to sign him at the end of the season.
27-year-old Manu Riviere on his way …..
The news is that Osmanlispor manager Bulent Uygun is said to be keen to sign the player and it looks like it’s a good deal with news on the club’s website that negotiations have ended successfully and that Riviere will be announced as a to be confirmed as an Osmanlispor player soon.
There is no news on what the transfer fee is but it cannot be too much although we did pay a big 6M for him from Monaco three years ago and at the time he was hailed as a decent signing.
But it just didn’t turn out that way.
If the FutbolArena report is accurate this is good news for Newcastle because we will get Manu’s wages off the wage bill and we’ll get something for him too – he had no future at Newcastle under Rafa Benitez.
Now we need to do the same for Henri Saivet who we paid £5M for from Bordeaux a short 18 months ago under the previous regime – who didn’t know what they were doing.
What do you think?

To be honest though I’m sure Rafa new this when him and Mashers sat down at their meeting. Rafa has confirmed that he has let the club know they’ve made mistakes and we have to assume that clearing out the deadwood is part of the project.

Comment #17whatever people think of lewis gibson moving on, his statement ” everton are a club that bring through youth ”
is still a pretty damning indictment and slap in the face. however, i can see this changing in the future under rafa.

Comment #21Rotonda: When we were last in the premier league which is little more than a year ago we were 5th in a league table of clubs who had the most youth academy graduates in the squad. How does that square with your damning indictment?
