Massadio Haidara never quite made it at Newcastle since he was signed for £2M from Nancy four years ago last January when Newcastle signed five Frenchmen in a bid to avoid relegation.
In that particular season, it worked well, and we did avoid relegation.
L’Equipe have reported that Haidara is now undergoing a medical before his transfer to St. Etienne from the Magpies.
For Sadio to be going through the medical right now, then a transfer fee must have been agreed with Newcastle and terms must be acceptable to the 24-year-old left full-back.
Massadio Haidara – having medical at St. Etienne
Haidraa has been troubled with several serious injuries since he’s been on Tyneside and he’s appeared only 52 times for the first team in that time.
And last season he made only 3 appearances for Newcastle including two starts during our promotion season.
LeEquipe are reporting the deal would be on a free transfer but that we would have a sell-on clause in case St Etienne sell him in the future for a profit.
Usually, we would ask for about 25% of that profit – but the news is that it will be a sizable 50%.
It’s important for Newcastle to sell players who no longer have a future at the club this summer and Massadio is one of those.
Comments welcome.

Lads! Few minor updates on the blog:
– fixed comment likes
– fixed load more button on home page
– opened comments on older posts so you can read them without troubles
I am preparing big update before new season kicks off – changed heart icon to something better (any ideas?), faster loading times on mobiles and…..no comment pagination!
Would you like me to add anything for you? Can you please report bugs to Ed or via contact form on my portfolio website (www.tylendaweb.com). I don’t have enough time to control everything
?
Fantasy football teams ready? What are your predictions for upcoming season? Can we fight for top10 this season or is it too early for that?

Comment #2Horrific first touch which is why he was involved in lots of tasty challenges leading to injuries. Need a high quality lb with dummet good enough for back up.

Comment #3Kieran Tierney would be my choice to fill the LB position.
$15 million is probably too much to ask at this stage, but a solid investment. It seems Rafa is keen on getting the defenive side of things sorted as a priority, so you never know.

Comment #4It’s no time for getting sentimental about cirtain players, Over the next few years if Rafa is still here most of our current players will be history, sold on for a better replacement. Many Newcastle fans get attached to players simply not good enough ” not many other premier league clubs would consider most of our players.

Comment #6I dont think rafa will look to replace dummet this summer he is strong defensively and rarely injured ok he is not to good going forward but i think rafa would rather be be solid at the back
Get the right type of player infront of dummet and it wont make much difference
Look at mayrez and simpson at Leicester
It is also easy to form a back 3 in the middle of games with dummet in there letting yedlin move further up

Great work with the blog.
Suggestion regarding the ‘heart’ icon, replace with ‘thumbs up’ and ‘thumbs down’, perhaps…

I agree. We need to improve our combinations on both flanks, which would enable us to create more chances and defend better.
For too long we have had inadequate partnerships down either side.

Comment #9After watching yesterdays game i would like us to bid for de blasis
Cracking little player who could do a job for us if we could get him.
I thought sdj arrons and lejunes had a good game and have high hopes for them.
Sdj looks good and arrons seems to take his knocks and bounces back well.

Comment #10Nice work Kacper. Gonna stick with my original full bottle of brown Ale for agree, upside down empty bottle for disagree. The shape lends it to the job required imo and broon dog is an iconic feature of Newcastle. You know it makes sense. 🙂

Comment #13Aarons and De Jong are literally like new signings, no matter how corny that sounds. We can go from defence to attack in no time at all now, with JonJo, Merino De Jong – also Lejeune to an extent – all capable of player killer passes behind defences for the the likes of Gayle, Atsu, Aaron’s and Murphy to get amongst them. A couple more shrewd quality signings and we’ll surprise a few clubs this season.
I have no fear of relegation, although that has to be first target in reality, so a cup run might well be plausible.
Then from next summer, we push on once we have some money to spend. Definitely exciting times heading our way.

Comment #14Bobby, as Toonkk said, not sure how major our players we’d be very attractive to other teams? Teams like Stoke and West brom’s managers get abuse on here but they get their teams to mid table each year and are ahead of us, no doubt in my mind.

Comment #15Just wondering if anyone has noticed a theme with Rafa’ signings.. I don’t know myself but what does it look like he’s building here?
Merino…Murphy…Atsu…Lejeune…Manquillo
Do these have anything in common other then youth? (apart from Atsu and Lejeune)

Comment #16Bobby if we can add a keeper who can play the ball and start the counter attacks i think they will do well.
With a goalscorer and a new cdm we will be set.
I rate our goalies atm but they dont have the passing range needed to feed the wings the way we seem to be setting the team up to play.

For so many years we have been an unbalanced team for various reasons our buying policy and unfit managers
As soon as rafa came in you could see changes on that side of things
And last season was a vast improvement but were still not there
Be interesting to see merino in the middle isnt merino left footed

We could test his mettle in the cup games
I want him to be our number 1 keeper within a year or 2.

Comment #20I’d keep Woodman if we manage to sign a keeper like Reina – a world class mentor. If not, a loan move where he would play every week might be best option for him and us.

On players to be removed, Diame and Colback would be on the top of my removal list. Diame never impressed and getting rid of colback would save us probably 10 points over the course of the season by not having his fouls in dangerous areas costing us.

Comment #28As things stand, squad wise I would say we have a weaker team now than the one we went down with.
I remember the rose tinted specs were on when we signed Diame and people said he was better than Sissoko and just as quick? well we must have signed the wrong Diame no way is he prem class. Without Shelvey on his game we are poor. Rafa is no doubt the man that can make us a great team again but fcuk has he got one hell of a hard job on his hands.
Mitro,Colback,Diame should be no where near the starting 11, Mitro is young yes but Rafa obviously doesn’t rate him and doesn’t see enough to keep him here hopefully he is sold.

Comment #29It’s not so much colbacks fouls in dodgy areas as his stifling lack of vision in vital areas where winning a ball should lead to bursting forward incisively instead of a string of negative passes back to a besieged goalie.

Comment #31Mitro may be young but an awful lot of younger players have been deemed to be not up to standard. I think his highly unremarkable championship season should be the absolute finale of his NUFC career. Perhaps if we were a bit more clinical with our first team hopefuls we wouldn’t wind up carrying sub standard players on sympathy far beyond practicality. Ok I mention colback again but dear me – he was surplus to s*nderlands requirements. Think about that and let it soak in for a few seconds.

Comment #37So the current squad/ team is not as good as the team that was relegated?
The greatest change last season was arresting the slide and coming back at the first attempt. I remember someone coming on here at this time last year and saying that the squad was too good and the finances and crowd support superior to anything else in the Championship. But it still had to be done. After waiting a while to win a game there was a good deal of pessimism expressed just like now. The same people are taking a negative view already for heavens sake. Pre season should be a time for optimism as managers spending the big bucks doesn’t always guarantee success. I personally can’t wait to be watching us in the big time again at SJP.
Anyway the big difference this time in the premiership is the value of having Benitez who has seen it all before and has generated genuine team spirit and employed a system, formation 4-2-3-1 to do well enough particularly away from home to win the Championship. The same tactics to apply with more control and possession at home?
It will I believe be more difficult to perform as well away from home. But the acquisition of a proven goalscorer could make a significant difference.
What the sceptics are underestimating is that the squad will not largely consist of those players who took us down. Also assuming player sales and a few major additions before the window closes but no major capital outlay to impact on self sufficiency. However the major difference is the overall team spirit with Benitez having a squad who want to play for the team.

You know the ‘..you’ve already said that..’ message that comes up when you have submitted a comment twice by accident?
How about building this in for repetitive statements?
eg. ‘ Colback gives silly free kicks away in dangerous areas..’ etc Which is repeated ad nauseam on here , and probably will continue to be after he has finally left the club.
