Newcastle Still In With A Chance Of Signing Sheyi Ojo

There has been a long running saga with Newcastle trying to sign Liverpool’s Sheyi Ojo since last January, and the last we heard was that Newcastle only had the option of signing the 20-year-old outright this summer for £10M.

Liverpool presumably blocked Newcastle’s attempts to get the lad on loan for the season – but Ojo is still at Liverpool.

The Sun on Sunday a week ago reported that Ojo wanted to join Championship club Fulham on a season-long loan deal and that’s where it stands at the moment.

But there seems to be an update today – here’s an extract from this Sun report today:

Relations are strained with the Kop over the attempt (by Newcastle) to take winger Sheyi Ojo.

Newcastle could yet rescue that deal, but bridges will have to be rebuilt.

Not sure if we should raise our hopes that Newcastle can still sign Ojo who Rafa Benitez very highly and would love to have him permanently on Tyneside.

The deal to sign him for £10M would contain a buy-back clause in case Rafa makes him into a world-class player, but that’s hardly good for Newcastle.

It appears from today’s Sun report that Newcastle is still in with a chance to sign Ojo but surely those chances are now very slim?

Ojo was born in Hemel Hempstead and joined the MK Dons’ Academy when he was just 10 years old.

He showed how precocious he was at a young age and when 13, he had already played for the Dons’ U18 side and was even training with the first team squad.

Ojo then joined Liverpool as a 14-year-old for a  fee of £2M, and even then there were some other big clubs after the winger, with Chelsea one of the clubs who missed out on him.

He came through the prestigious Liverpool Academy and made his debut for the Reds in January of last year.

Sheyi has so far played 13 times with one goal for the Liverpool first team but made only two appearances for the club last season.

What do you think?

Isn’t our winger situation sorted?…unless of course Rafa doesn’t think Aarons will stay fit for one minute…

    Morning, jesper

Aarons has this annoying habit of doing well in pre-season, and then …

If we are after another winger (which we probably are as we are still light there) then Id imagine its a more experienced one rather than another prospect but the link to the Madrid lad is just a journalists opinion so not a story

Wingers, Strikers, Goalkeepers….who know who we are after, but the last place I would be looking for information is the press; especially The Sun, I’m surprised they even get the title of the rag right, the whole this is a work of fiction.

We look OK at times last night, but left ourselves open at the back a few times, and could have suffered a heavy defeat on another day, they got in behind us far too easily for my liking. Let’s hope it’s just pre – season jitters.

All gone quiet on the Riviera front. Surely Rivierlinho to Turkey, or is a Turkey, or Rivieraldho goes back to France? Please get him oot, Penfold.

Morning Ron…how’s the weather in SW France?

You are right about Aarons…he’s a concern!

I would like us to sign a proper experienced LB, an alternative to Shelvey (we look woeful when he’s missing) and a +15 goal striker.

    Then I’ll be a happy camper ?

If he would prefer Fulham to Newcastle, it would appear the bright lights of London are the attracrion. Do we want a player with this mindset?
