There are just 32 days left in the summer transfer window, and if the window is going to be another success for Newcastle like last year, we think we need to bring in players to strengthen four different positions.
Rafa and Lee Charnley will also have to unload players like Achraf Lazaar, Manu Riviere, Tim Krul, Sadio Haidara, Henri Saivet and others so at least we get their wages off the wage-bill, and it may be necessary to send some of them out on loan.
But the best option for Newcastle would be a straight sale of those players this summer.
Here are the four positions we believe need to be strengthened and with four more players in – and nine in all – we should be in decent enough shape on 13th August when we take on Spurs at home.
- Goalkeeper – Ever since Rafa allowed Matz Sels to go on loan for the season to Anderlecht and then made it clear 20-year-old Freddie Woodman would be going on loan – Newcastle needed to bring in another goalkeeper so Rafa could have three goalies fighting it out for the number one position
It now looks like Rob Elliot will probably start as number one this season with Karl Darlow pressing and Rafa will bring in another goalkeeper.
We have bid £3.6M for Udinese’ Greek international goalkeeper Orestis Karnezis.
Napoli is also said to be after 32-year-old Karnezis, but he or West Ham goalkeeper Adrian would seem suitable – and Adrian already has lots of Premier League experience with the Hammers. - Left Back – Local lad Paul Dummett played a massive 46 games for Newcastle last season in the Championship, and he didn’t really have much competition.
Achraf Lazaar’s move to Tyneside just hasn’t paid off for whatever reason, and Jesus Gamez had some injury problems last term.
It looks like Jesus could challenge Paul this season, and the Spaniard has looked good in preseason, and he’s experienced too. But we still need to bring in an orthodox left back to challenge Paul for the strating position next season. - Playmaker – We saw last season when Jonjo Shelvey missed those five games through suspension we have very little creativity in midfield when Jonjo wasn’t playing.
And his absence coincided with Newcastle going into a slump around Christmas time and it was a hard slog from then through the end of the season.
However, we did win the Championship which was our goal at the start of the season last August.
🙂
Newcastle must bring in some creativity in central midfield this summer, and we are hoping we can persuade 26-year-old Argentine Allan of Napoli to join us this summer – if it’s not Allan another playmaker has to be brought in to challenge Jonjo this season. - Striker – One of the problems we had in the Championship last season was that when we were on top in a game, we found it difficult to put the ball in the net.
We created lots of good chances, and with another natural goalscorer like Dwight Gayle in the side, we would have won a lot more of our games.
Aleksandar Mitrovic has been inconsistent and is probably on his way out of Newcastle, so we must bring in a top experienced striker this summer.
Maybe the best chance is to get somebody on loan although 29-year-old Leicester City striker Islam Slimani is still available and could do a job at Newcastle.
And of course a perfect choice would be Lucas Perez of Arsenal, and he would be worth £17M to us if we can persuade him to come to Tyneside.
What do you think about this?

Comment #1I don’t necessarily think ‘Arry is right in that be candidates for relegation but I do think we should take what he says seriously…I am not so sure of what we got or the signings we have made so far…
…it remains to be seen

Comment #7If we’d had a prolific goal scorer we would never have been relegated.
We have Gayle now will he do as well this season?
A top striker is a must on Rafa’s shopping list.

Comment #9Toon kk, imho, we had better players in some positions but a worse team, a group of players all out for themselves may play well together if things are going ok, a team of players with the same goals, hopes ant ethics pulling for each other will be harder to beat and will put their bodies on the line if needed……no ducking out of the way of the ball when they’re in a wall……Vidal , although a lunatic is the total embodiment of what all players should be like……if only we had 25 players of the same ilk as him…….the club shop would sharp run out of hair wax though

Comment #10The only problem I have with Redknapp was the disclosure to the press of Ba’s release clause; although something was very fishy about that whole thing. Harry did a great job of waking sleeping giant Tottenham from its slumber.

Striker , goalkeeper, cm. Has to be on the wanted list.
If we had a team that wanted to be at nufc we could have stayed up but they didnt give 2 hoots we where a stepping stone for 2 many players.
Hopefully thats behind us now and the new blood buys into what we are and want to be a part of our great club.

Comment #13Kets – why do you persist with Santon? He was OK when he was here but he was a right footed player at Left Back and he’s a few years older now. So no way would we buy him again!

Comment #16We need two left backs (Dummett isn’t Premier league quality).
We need a winger as we’ll get a lot of injuries. Aarons will probably break his leg next week. I think he is our best winger though.
We need flair in the middle of the park. Shaqiri will be a good coup. He is similar to Marveaux and has a good footballing brain.
Musa and Slimani would do the job up front. I’d even resign Demba Ba. He’d do a job for us.

You have spent to long on football manager
What happened with marveax and where did he end up
Don’t use him as example of a player to buy when he failed
Marveax
Liverpool got a luck escape
But 35 mill for Caroll I think we’re still wining

Comment #22Marveaux was a cracking talent. He had a good season last year. Banged in 4 goals.
Abeid, Ben Arfa, Santon and Thauvin shouldn’t have been sold. We could do with them all back now. Thauvin is back in the French squad for christ sake.

Comment #26Marveaux was a clusterfcuk of a player who cost us more goals than he created. His passing was horrific, picking out the oposition mf more often than not, resulting in them counter attacking, and his crossing was non existent. Occasionally looked decent when on goal, but that rarely happened due to his incompetence.

Comment #29I don’t post much now, I’ve gone back to reading the comments and looking for valid transfer news from the posters.
The whole situation still winds me up. I’m quite happy with a couple of the signings and very happy on the outs Barr one, maybe. I do think we’ll get a couple decent signings in or marquee as they’re now called and I expect it to go to the wire.
Getting aggravated does nothing for the ticker or the Auld swede so im trusting Rafa to do his job otherwise it’s the funny farm for me.
Kinda wish the window closed before the season started, most of the dealings would be done by now..
