It Could Be The End Of The Road For This Honest Newcastle Player

News today that will come as no real surprise to some Newcastle fans – local lad Jack Colback is ready to be left out of Newcastle’s 25-man Premier League squad for next season.

The Shields Gazette is reporting that it believes Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez does not intend to name Jack in his squad.

The news for the last week or two – which has been incessant – is that Rafa is not entirely happy with the way things are going with his Newcastle squad with just four days to go before we play Tottenham Hotspur in the first game of the Premier League.

We need to beat Tottenham on Sunday, and that will show that we’re not as bad off as some pundits think – after all, we still have Rafa Benitez – and he’s one of the very best managers in the world.

Fact.

Jack Colback – in his home town colors – those of Newcastle United

It appears Newcastle just don’t have enough money in what has been another massive increase in transfer fees this summer and we can be outspent by most of the Premier League clubs this summer.

While Rafa’s not happy, we think he realizes this summer is a one-off, and we are still suffering from being relegated last year.

Anyway, that’s what we think – it’s not as dire as some are painting the situation on Tyneside.

Jack Colback is an honest player but may not be good enough for what Rafa is looking for in the future from Newcastle players.

However, Jack did play most games in Newcastle’ pre-season campaign up to last week’s great 3-1 win at Wolfsburg.

If this is true, it will be a blow to the local lad who was brought up like most of us born in Newcastle – passionately supporting the club.

Colback joined us controversially on a free transfer three years ago from Sunderland, and of course, Jack joined the Sunderland Youth Academy way back in 2000 at the age of 10.

The 27-year-old would be an excellent acquisition for some Championship club looking to be promoted back to the Premier League this season.

Maybe his former Sunderland manager Steve Bruce – now at Aston Villa – would be interested in signing him?

We have nothing bad to say about Jack at all – he is a Geordie whose dream was to play for Newcastle United, and he is likely to be a little devastated if this news is accurate.

But life goes on.

Jack has played a total of  102 games for Newcastle with 5 goals and 10 assists over three seasons.

Comments welcome.

I think given our mistakes in the market, we would be wise to get loans with obligations to buy. Just last year Benitez has bought in 3/4 duds we could be stuck with on high wages: Sels, Gamez, Lazaar & possibly Hanley. Even Diame we could get stuck with. If we repeat 3/5 failures each year we’ll soon have a reserve squad of about 15 highly paid flops.

its been long since I commented but I am I the only one who blames Rafa for the situation we are in. I know we had to sigh for the Championship but those we were too many players 13 I think with 7 sent on loan. That made our squad so big with average players. Yes we won promotion but now we don’t have that much money and slot of average players. If he is a good manager then let him sort out that situation. If I were Ashley I wld do the same. If he sells he generates income to buy. I wldnt pump in more money

    Morning lads!

It’s true Rafa did play a dangerous game by buying so many average players only suited for the Championship…but it was always the agreement that promotion was the priority!

Ashley agreed to this and Rafa was also stuck with quite a few deadbeats to begin with…

Having to move on 4 of your own buys is quite a bit and it’s not goingv very well is it…actually it’s not going very well moving anybody on…

They should have been more focused on this earlier in the window or even before. I think that is one of the mistakes Rafa was pointing at.

Gayle, Ritchie, Hayden, Clark, Yedlin, Atsu – success, first team squad in PL.
    Murphy – Success, sold.
Jesus – we needed cover in defence, injured, but now part of PL squad and could be part of our coaching set up.
Hanley – we needed CBs and he could well have been earmarked as captain in Championship, butClark and Lascalles overtook him. The mistake was clealy the big contract.
Diame – could yet be a decent PL squad player.
Sels, – we had only Darlow fit, with Krul and Elliott injured. HAd a great record in Belgium, seems to be doing well at Anderlecht, on loan.
Lazaar – we needed and still need left back cover -unfortunately, he was the wrong man, but we needed cover.

Definitely 7 successes, so at worst, 60%.

So given the controversy over Kenedy, Rafa won’t be going to China in the near future?

    Those transfer were reasonably success.
The failure was Lazaar, Gamez and Seltz. In fact these three did not contribute at all.
Also make no sense to buy two fullbacks and left Mbabu/Sterry to leave the club.
We should have gone for loan deals instead. Had we got in a fullback and gk on loan, we would be facing all these problems. Or best we should have kept Krul.
    Partly Benitez to be blamed.
Moreover, it is absolute ridiculous when we are going for loan deals now not a year ago!

There are always a lot of doubts between Ashley and Charnley until proven and only time will tell. We just got to be patient again. Wait til the transfer windows closes.

Seems to be more of a left back / left mid fielder from his career so far.

we wouldnt be facing all these problems.

Also, I agree that we shouldnt have given high wages and long contracts to Hanley. No idea why we gave that when we were in good position to attract players.

Benitez did say the other day that there was a change in direction and going the loan route would be a more frequent option.

I think what we have with the current situation is proof that no matter how good a manager may be – financial constraints have to be in place and no manager should be given a free hand.

Two quotes from Liverpool journos at the time of RB’s tenure there.
    1.
He reminds me of my wife in M & S using MY credit card.
    2. (the more famous one)
He’s like a kid let loose in a sweety shop.

I think Rafa thought that any player he bought last Summer even if they flopped would have the “I’ve been coached by Benitez” label and would be easy to move but the huge hike in this Summers market caught everyone on the hop.

Kennedy from Chelsea on loan ?
The lad was sent home from the Chelsea tour because of comments made about China , yet we have Chinese sponsors.
He was on loan at Watford for 6months and played only 15minutes in one game.
Can only be cover for Dummet and Cup games to give first team players a rest you would think. If he puts the shifts in and gets his head round what’s needed then maybe a useful addition to the squad indicating that there are a number of our lot finally on their way or well have the biggest squad ever assembled.
