It looks like Grant Hanley will be the next player to leave Newcastle as the club have agreed a fee with Norwich for the former Blackburn Rovers captain.
We signed Grant for about £5.5M last summer so hopefully, we will be able to recoup most of that in this deal.
And there should be time for Rafa and Lee Charnley to bring a player or two in before Thursday night, now that Grant will be moved out.
Grant Hanley – fee agreed with Norwich City
Here’s what Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie has just tweeted.
Newcastle United have agreed a fee with Norwich City for defender Grant Hanley. He’s set for a medical at Carrow Road tomorrow.
— Keith Downie (@SkySports_Keith) August 29, 2017
Some reports are saying that Grant is actually undergoing his medical today so the deal could be announced early tomorrow if that’s the case.
It also looks like Newcastle are willing to sell Dwight Gayle to Leeds United for £18M, but only if we can get a suitable replacement in by Thursday night.
Understand Newcastle could offload striker Dwight Gayle before Thursday’s deadline – but only if they manage to line up a replacement.
— Keith Downie (@SkySports_Keith) August 29, 2017
If the Hanley deal goes through it brings down our total net spend to around £13M, so surely there is money in the coffers to bring in some new players before Thursday night?
What do you think?
Comments welcome.

Comment #47Personally think Gayle or MItro will leave, whoever attracts the highest bid and I also think Lucas Perez will end up here. It’s all gone quiet on him after strong rumours linking him with us, once we’ve got rid he’ll be here. If he was going to Spain he;d have gone already.

Comment #48I think being a NUFC supporter entitles you to be full of misery as what we have experience not many have.
Arsenal complain about this and that, but they win a FA cup here and there. We have 0 prospects to win sh1t and yet we are a top 20 club.
The day that fat twat leaves I will be more positive. Don’t get me wrong 3:0 win was very positive and we can try and play. But the PL is very hard, without match winners you have a strong chance of going down.

We don’t know for sure that Gayle is for sale, no smoke without fire springs to mind, however with football that is a load of horlicks, anyway, if its true, which it may not be, but if it is what are your views on it !, just curious like !

You say being a NUFC fan gives you the right to be full of misery, sorry but I disagree, I don’t think its a right, I think its an obligation lol.

Comment #58Hanley finally gone. Harrumph! What took so long? And the fee is unknown because it’s very difficult to measure something that tiny. Still, wages off the books. That’s key. We finally get a move on when it’s almost too late. Was that always the plan Lee? I don’t think that works with Rafa. Back to your desk and on the phone!

We rarely announce the fees we get or what we pay. That way the club can prevent us fans bashing them with the loaded money stick.
If we don’t know how much we have or don’t have as Ash likes to state, we then can’t state ‘Where is the Sissoko money ‘

Apparently Championship clubs leave it later to buy players to save on wages. Can’t see the logic in that unless you’re definitely planning on mid table, mind, I think Norwich would snap your hand off for mid table at the minute.

The Gayle malarkey is indeed puzzling.
Doubt we’ll never know what’s up unless he decides to offload his woes or ambitions.
More likely that Ashley scanned his Sports Direct Barcode and realised that he’d reached his Best Befire Date and Latest Sell By Date
Or it could just be bollocks – will just have to see

Comment #77If gayle does go for 15-20 million we are going to have to add money to replace him
I dont think we can buy much better than him with what he would sell for.
Same goes for mitro atm.
Hopefully we will keep them both and still buy. We have put another dent in the wages today but need to buy not just sell.
