Sky Sports uses statistics from games to judge who are the best players in the Premier League this season.
And we have to believe the stats they use are the right ones that make up what they call their power rankings as the rate each player in each match.
And after five games, four Newcastle United players are in the top 40 of the form table.
Jamaal Lascelles is the seventh best player in the league according to his stats, Rob Elliot is 19th, Matt Ritchie is 25th, and Christian Atsu is in 38th place.
Not too bad for a team full of Championship-class players -= well at least according to most of the pundits.
Jamaal Lascelles – 7th best player in the Premier League
Here is the list of the top 50 best players in the Premier League according to Sky Sports power rankings with Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus – two strikers from Manchester City – ranked first and second.

Probably, is it anything to do with those monitors they wear these days. Can anyone be arsed to count where having four players in the top fifty places us in terms of most players. I’m on a train and it’s not really possible, not impossible either mind.

Comment #6Imagine if we end up with our first 11 in the top 50 lol That would shut them pundits up! Loving the positivity around the club now, long may it continue.

Wow, not that I play anyway but that just made doing fantasy football 36 times more complicated if they apply it to that.

I dedicated a large part of my life from 2004 to 2005 to Football manager which I might as well have spent in intensive care. I do not wish to spend that much time picking a fantasy football league 😮

Comment #12I just want to mention that the inside of the shirt under the lapel sponsor is Manly Men Inc. Keep your eye out for that when one of wor players pulls his shirt off to celebrate a goal……
And what a tremendous achievement to have 4 players in the top 40 so far. I don’t think it will end up that way for the season but you never know. Keep it up lads!

Comment #14I’m not going to get too excited about our league standing until we’ve played at least 10 games. Then we’ll see. We’re not going to finish 4th, that is certain. I still think we will be in the bottom 10 at the end but would love to be proven wrong. We do still need a better striker in. One that can play game in and game out for long stretches and be consistent.

Top four is possible, unlikely but most definitely possible. Arsenal under a toxic home crowd who (rightly) imo want rid of Wegner, Spurs playing at Wemberly, Lpool suffering through not buying Van Dijk and Coutinho being ‘depressed’ with Everton and their points dropped finally coming good later on when they play the top teams could work in our favour, never say never when Rafa is In charge.

This blog, well into the new season had a pessimism fatigue. Mainly due to the unrelenting posting of negative transfer activity. No one believed Newcastle would take the league by storm but that we were an experienced striker away from addressing the main areas requiring bolstering to the squad . Fans broadly accepted that what served us well in the Championship wouldn’t in the Premiership and that the squad needed to be trimmed. This took longer than had been anticipated and funds did not materialise in this window to get the striker that many had anticipated.
Post forward though the season has barely got underway there’s an amazing mood change with growing optimism, momentum and a broad consensus suggesting that didnt we do well. Meanwhile not everyone’s favourite Chris Sutton and many others have pointed out Koeman’s transfer activity at Everton. Bobby bee seems to be ahead of the football media criticism with his “it’s not what you spend but how you spend it”. Certainly with Everton finishing 7th last season and spending close to £150 million they have massively disappointed so far. Certainly they should have found a replacement for Lukaku before selling him. It does also take time to integrate new players into the team and that’s maybe where we’ve got it right and Everton haven’t. Mind I am not saying that fortunes won’t change but this is the story so far and it’s not that long until the January window and we can do it all over again.
I was going to post what some had said during the transfer window but that would put many out of a job and I would be taking too much for granted.

Comment #21Anyone with an ounce of footballing nous can say it’s not what you spend. Look at QPR a few years ago, I genuinely felt sorry for them as it didn’t work out. As much as I dislike fat Sam I felt sorry for Blackburn fans. Man U last few years spent a fortune and haven’t been in the top four. This season has got nothing to do with what has been spent but the fact that the 52K and more have unbelievable faith in Rafa.

Comment #39We’ve had a great start to our season, nine points is very good. But without sounding negative we have had a run of winable games otherwise we’d be in a different position in the league. Winning these games was/is very important not just for the points but for a conference boost for the team. Three points against Brighton would be fantastic.
We still need a quality striker even if people think we are doing just fine without.
A quality no.9 is always going to be the main point winner over the course of a season.

Comment #40Not at all sure Rafa was misled. Perhaps Ashley should have more precisely said “every last penny, and not a penny more”. The club of course cannot put all its assets on the pitch. It also has to develop and maintain infrastructure etc. Even so, you can see us establishing ourselves in the top 8 under Rafa within those parameters, maybe by the end of next season. Beyond that if he does have that Wenger like free hand, he may stay on longer term. There aren’t that many elite jobs that offer that, and even fewer I think that has the same match day experience.
