The Mirror are reporting that Manchester City will be willing to send Eliaquim Mangala to Newcastle on loan after they have signed Athletic Bilbao defender and former French U21 International Aymeric Laporte.
Rafa tried to sign Mangala on loan last summer but was not successful, but if we can get him in he will help strengthen the defense for the 14 games left in the Premier League.
Rafa could also try to get an option to buy him in the summer if the French International does well for us.
Mangala cost City a cool £42M when he signed in the summer of 2014 from Porto.
🙁
Eliaquim Mangala – close to loan deal
Laporte cost Manchester City the £57M release-out clause in his contract – which is ridiculous.
The talks on the loan are now going on with Newcastle, so we hope we can be successful after yesterday’s failure to sign Daniel Sturridge on loan and then we refused to pay the £20M required for Feyenoord striker Nicolai Jorgensen.
Malaga could be expensive to buy outright since the Mirror are reporting a £23M offer from Crystal Palace last summer was turned down.
Newcastle will have to pay most of Mangala’s £80K/week wages, but Rafa rates this player, and Mangala can start playing well for Newcastle under the manager;’s guidance.
It would be an excellent opportunity for the 8 times capped French International and former Porto player to resurrect his career on Tyneside.
The 6ft 2ins defender is 26 years old.
What do you think?

Comment #1Newcastle have sent high-level representatives to the Czech Republic and hope they will come home with two signatures scrawled upon the papers in their leatherette briefcases. Viktoria Plzen’s Michael Krmencik, a 24-year-old who has scored 16 times in 20 first-team appearances this season, is their top target and could be secured for £10m, but they also hope to sneak a deal for the Sparta Prague goalkeeper Martin Dubravka. They are one of eight top-flight clubs – including Everton, Brighton and Burnley – said to have had scouts at the KCom Stadium on Saturday to watch Jarrod Bowen on the wing in Hull’s 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest, and hope to pip Liverpool to the signing of the 24-year-old Gremio striker Luan, who would cost around £17.5m.

Comment #2I think the Luan link has now been rubbished from both ends.

Comment #4Another defender, just what we need. No doubt a goalkeeper is next.
Hope they can score goals.

Comment #5Malaga has never been a target for Rafa and reports are that we’ve made no approach for the player. If he was on our radar we would have done the deal weeks ago.
Reality is that he’s not rated by City who at the last minute have decided to offload him in the hope of having his wages paid by someone else.
Last time I looked he wasn’t a striker, a number 10 or a keeper. And by the way Charnley don’t go anywhere near Joe Hart as the gutter press are trying to influence you.

Comment #8Mangala is one the poorest central defenders in the Premiership history. I sadly spent some time rewinding and replaying all his mistakes from a previous cup tie that he was involved in and thought no one would ever take him off Man City. This has to be a joke.

Comment #9No way we are wasting time on Mangala unless Lascelles is off. Lejeune is a better player than him and look how he’s turned out so far.
The Czech link is such a gamble it’s ridiculous. Anyone remember Andrej Kramaric who Leicester bought from similar league in Croatia?
Was their record signing for around £12 mill at a few years ago and was terrible. The step up is just too big. It won’t keep us up.
We should have bitten the bullet and just gone up a few mill for Jorgensen. What an embarrassing and entirely self – inflicted mess we find ourselves in.

Seems quite cheap for a La Liga football team ;o)

Comment #12Luan would be great but he’s a number 10 primarily and his goal record reflects that. He’s out of our league and we’d need a striker to play with him regardless.

Comment #14Just play Mitrovich tomorrow against Burnley, he’s not being sold and we need a striker which we aren’t going to get. Whatever has gone on behind the scenes between Mitro and Rafa, i don’t care. Just play him ffs!

Comment #17Carl – we just don’t have “high level representatives “ (plural) . We only have one and that’s Charnley and he doesn’t have a passport as Ashley won’t buy him one do it’s not him. He’s in Wrexham looking for targets.
So the only representatives of NUFC in Czechoslovakia are a few fans looking for love as offered on one of those dating web sites. You know the sort of thing “ lonely football fan seeks affluent female business investor. Initially for friendship maybe leads to ownership of iconic football club in future. Hobbies should include collecting Silverware, ambition and be prepared to adopt 52,311 orphans. Non smoker preferred”

Rafa wouldn’t play Mitrovich when he was fit so will be surprised if he selects him having said that his head is not quite right.
However, most fans have thought that Mitrovich’s head has never been right.

Comment #20Why would a young player/s come to a club after all the sh’t in recent weeks. Takeover debacle, Beardsley mess and the whole in the paper for the wrong reason. Also, agents would try to stay well away due to our past record. (rhetorical question by the way)

I think we need a striker and any talk of paying 10m and 17.5m for two strikers is highly unlikely given the way Charnley will haggle until either the deal will fail or Liverpool will just stump up the club’s valuation.
Our ‘high level representation’ (Charnley and Moncur) is pathetic and don’t know what they are doing

I would rather spend our whole budget on a striker than buy two substandard ones that, if we see a takeover soon, would just rot away in the background (like Colbeck) until their contract was up. Buy cheap, buy twice.
I would restructure the academy bringing in old faces (Watson, Lee etc. etc. (not sure on his badges) and totally rebuild the process. I worked on the Spurs academy and its excellent. They have a room for everything including a press room. What have we got? a brick wall with player holding a shirt up

Comment #23What a shambles, although for us whats new. For gods sake we need a striker and now, if Sturridge was our No 1 target what was all the bids for Jorgensen all about. Can we just for once stump up the money and move on…..I fear the worst.
