Rafa Benitez has issued a plea to Newcastle fans that whatever happens today in the transfer window – probably very little – everybody needs to stick together and support the team.
If we can somehow survive this season in the Premier League, then Newcastle will have big money to spend this summer – whoever the owner is then.
Rafa wants the fans to out their transfer frustrations behind them and just support the team – whatever happens.
Newcastle have a crucial game tonight at home to Burnley, and we really need a win to lift the spirits of the Newcastle fans.
Rafa Benitez – we must all stick together
Rafa wants to see unity at Newcastle, not just with the fans but with everybody associated with the club – including the owner – we assume.
This is what Rafa has said as reported in the Shields Gazette today:
“If everyone understands, all the people around, the same message – ‘stick together’,”
“You can criticise the team selection or tactics or shape. But, in the end, the group of players will be this group and the passionate fans will be the same and they want to see the team winning.”
“I’m the manager, and my priority is to concentrate on the football issues. I want to concentrate on the game.”
“If we bring more players in, we’re going to be stronger. If we can’t do that, I have to be sure that we go into every game believing we can win.”
“We’ll try to do that against Burnley.”
“We were talking about different options (Rafa and Ashley), and that’s it,” “Similar to before.”
“We have to do something before the end, and then that’s it.”
“Obviously, everybody would like to see players early, but they’re not here, so we’ll try to do something in one day.”
“If we start with a high tempo, then maybe we can lift the fans,”
“I understand everything, because I have been here for a while,” “But, at the same tine, I know my responsibilities.”
“That’s to be sure the team’s in the best condition to approach any game.”
Most fans think we will lose the game tonight.

#nufc will try to find Jamie Sterry a club to join on loan today. Jack Colback will also be offered to clubs and Henri Saivet’s proposed move to Sivasspor should clear the way for incoming business.

Comment #2What’s the point in now allowing players to go out when we can’t improve upon them?
Oh wait, it lowers the wage bill. Of course.
This club runs on momentum generated by the fans, and now we have backwards momentum we can’t just suddenly switch it back. Only a positive signing can do that, or an unlikely win. Both seemingly impossible at this stage.

The Merino rumours are deliberately created by the press. The Spanish press do it because Rafa and Merino are Spanish so it’s easy for them . Noted that it wasn’t a German or French journo who created the story.
Yesterday they deliberately asked the questions of Rafa to force a response which then gives them the ability to quote him and thus they have a story. Fills space.
It’s the oldest journalist trick in the book. If you don’t have a story invent one. The best way to invent one is to come up with a contentious idea and put a question mark at the end of it which creates a reply or denial to write about.
Along the lines of :
“Is Elvis living in Benwell ? ” When asked a spokesperson for the Benwell Housing Association stated that “we’re unable to reveal details of individual situations about clients housed in Heartbreak Hotel” . The Ronnie then writes, ” Presley living in Benwell. Spotted buying Blue Suede Shoes in Aldi”
“Will Torres sign for Newcastle United today ? “

Comment #4If they are trying to sell Merino above Rafa’s head and he digs in his feet and refuses to sell him and refuses to step down.
Would Ashley have the guts to sack him for going against him

Comment #5There will be no outgoings without inconjngs we were told, yet here we are with more players leaving and none arriving. Apart from Kenedy we’ve done F All and it is as clear as day that we won’t bring anyone else in. Ridiculous situation to find ourselves in.
Yet here I am like most of us clutching at straws with a faint glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel that perhaps by some miracle we do manage to bring someone in before the deadline.

“Jack Colback will also be offered to clubs …”
That’s like trying to sell Turkey’s on Christmas Day.
What on earth has Charnley being doing for the last 3 months while Colback was twiddling his thumbs and picking up serious money for doing nowt. He’s been linked with Villa, Boro and the Mackems ages ago and nothing has materialised so he’s put in the shop window now ? Last day of the transfer window.
The only transfer needed is Charnley out of here. Along with Ashley and Bishop. Don’t even need a taxi one of those Rickshaw contraptions would do and they can peddle off and that’s being polite.

Comment #8Is our quota of players full?
If so we have another problem before we sign anyone, that is getting players out
And it seems like no one wants to go?
and cannot allow our better players to go
ARGHHHHHH
