Whether we survive or not in the Premier League this summer, there will be a big clearout of players.
We hope we are still in the Premier League and that Rafa is still our manager by June, and that’s what this article is based on.
Rafa is still the manager, and we are still a Premier League club.
There are three senior players whose contracts run out this summer, and they will not be retained.
Aleksandar Mitrovic – end of the road this summer for Mitro
Jesus Gamez, who just didn’t make it at the club will leave and Sadio Haidara, who played only 48 games for Newcastle in the six and a half years he was here will also depart.
Center-back Curtis Good will leave the club after six years since he signed from the Melbourne Heat in the summer of 2012 on a six-year deal.
The Australian played only twice for the Newcastle first team and suffered multiple injuries on Tyneside.
And the six players on loan are on loan because they are not needed at Newcastle.
They are Aleksandar Mitrovic (Fulham), Freddie Woodman (Aberdeen), Rolando Aarons (Hellas Verona – Serie A), Jamie Sterry (Crewe), Henri Saivet (Sivasspor- Turkey), and Jack Colback (Nottingham Forest).
Only top young goalkeeper Freddie Woodman of those six players will still be at Newcastle come September, and the other five are likely to be put up for sale.
Those five have not been used this season and Rafa doesn’t need them in the first team squad.
We don’t know why Rafa doesn’t rate Chancel Mbemba, but he will likely be available for sale this summer because Rafa hardly plays him.
A Premier League club could pick up the talented defender who can play center-back, full-back or defensive midfield, so he could still be playing in England next season.
Two other players who could leave are Jonjo Shelvey and Dwight Gayle.
Jonjo Shelvey is inconsistent, and he has discipline problems.
And like Mitro, Rafa doesn’t seem to trust Shelvey.
And Dwight Gayle will have had his chance to prove he is a Premier League striker by May, and unless he can score the goals for us soon, he will be sold too – probably to a Championship club.
Rafa can pick up quite a bit of money from selling the payers and coupled with the Premier League money we will get in May, Rafa could have big bucks to spend this summer, whoever the owner is.
But we expect Mike Ashley to still be in charge at Newcastle in the summer – unfortunately.
So there you have it – 11 players who are very likely to leave Newcastle this summer.
Jesus Gamez
Sadio Haidara
Curtis Good
Aleksandar Mitrovic
Rolando Aarons
Jamie Sterry
Henri Saivet
Jack Colback
Chancel Mbemba
Jonjo Shelvey
Dwight Gayle

Comment #1If he sells all 11 then it’s going to be one hell of a bill for the 11+ players coming in.
I won’t hold my breath with Ashley as the owner.

Comment #2Do you think we can leave ‘this summer’ / ‘next season’ until our current campaign is done with? We have many challenging variables to get through before the KO next August

29 isn’t old for a goalie in Europe
The captain of Juventus Gianluigi Buffon
turned 40 eleven days ago
Prague have 3 outstanding goalies
Vojtech Torel 21 years David Bicik 36 years
and Martin Dubravka all internationals
Sending goalies out on loan is much more common
in Europe that in the UK

Comment #5Jib, older goalies may be common (David James, Peter Schmeichel and David Seaman all played well into their 30s) but Rafa always wants to improve a player to make the team better. Is that possible with an older keeper?

Comment #6The biggest clear out we need in the summer is Rafa himself, couldn’t take another season of his negative, defensive dross.

Comment #8Firstly, if the takeover doesn’t happen – I cant see Fat Mike putting up enough money to replace even 6 of the 11 mentioned with better quality players
Secondly I dont agree with all the names mentioned – Aarons for one is still very young – gifted and could well become a star under Raffas direction – he might leave of his own volition if he doesnt get playing time – I am not sure he is any worse a player than Murphy or Atsu
Thirdly what is going to happen with players like Toney and Armstrong who appear to be continuously on loan – if they haven’t cut the mustard by now its unlikely they are ever going to so maybe they should be given a chance or sold – surely they cant be any worse than our current toothless attack
Lastly to Jarrow Mick – who do you replace Raffa with? Bring back the Wally with the Brolly? Yes I sometimes wonder about his team selection – why does he persist with the second rate Stoke reject as main striker- why hasnt he given Mitro a run – there may well be reasons behind the scenes that we are unaware of – With our ineffective strike force to date how can he not set up defensively against the better sides – not only do we not create enough chances we seem incapable of taking good ones when we do
Raffa is key to the future of this club in many ways – he is the best Manager we have had since Bobby Robson – Wherever we are at with (in my view the vital) takeover – Im certain it wont happen without Raffa being part of the deal – Be careful what you wish for – life has a cruel way of making things worse
Lastly however dire things may look at times thank your lucky stars you are not a Sunderland supporter – I really believe they are likely to be playing 1st division football next season – be very aware of their situation – owned by someone who has no interest in the club – going through a succession of innefectual managers and buying poor quality overvalued players who have no passion for their club – We were in that very situation pre Raffa and kit wouldnt take much to slip back that way!

Comment #10Cannot get my head around the talk there will be a load of money this summer, who ever owns the club. If the current owner is still here then, whatever division we are in, there will be minimum outlay for players, mark my words. A leopard never changes its spots. Rafa will be left swinging in the breeze again, like the last 3 windows, however I am not sure he will leave having formed a great affinity with the club and fanbase, he may just see out the last year of his contract, he is an Honourable man, so that would not surprise me. This fact alone makes him vulnerable to abuse by the powers that be. I doubt he can take much more……

Comment #11What are we having this discussion for? Number one, will Rafa be here in the summer to oversee any of this? If Ashley is still in charge, no. Is Ashley likely to still own the club in the summer? – yes. Will any of this be relevant if we end up relegated again? – no. It isn’t just a question of individuals, we also need an overhaul of the academy sides and training staff as our record is diabolical.

Comment #13I’m sorry but have had my fill of these hypothetical articles about who potential transfers could be or buy the club I agree with #DaresToBeDifferent can we just secure our place in Prem first.
Let’s be in the present we have a game against Man U and need to beat one of the bigger teams at the top of the table. If we can do it and hopefully get good performances from some of the new lads could really help give us the confidence we need to see out the season.
