Dubravka A Commanding Presence In Newcastle Goal – Darlow Improving His Game

Martin Dubravka will sign on permanently for Newcastle in the summer for €4M and during the four games of his loan spell so far – he has looked an excellent goalkeeper.

Good in the air and good with his feet he provides more presence and confidence than either Rob Elliot or Karl Darlow.

He’s already made a difference a Newcastle, and that’s why it’s almost a certainty Rafa will sign him full time for a bargain price this summer.

Martin has two clean sheets in the four games he’s played, and he gave a magnificent performance on his debut at home to Manchester United in the 1-0 win.

And he has been voted the FUN88 player of the month award for February.

Martin Dubravka – commanding presence in Newcastle goal

The journalists at the camp in southern Spain have commented on how much Martin communicates with his defense as they could hear him with only small crowds there.

Martin seems to have excellent communication skills and commands his penalty area exceptionally well – which is precisely what Rafa was looking for.

Dubravka looks a commanding goalkeeper, and Rafa said after the game yesterday that Karl Darlow is improving as he learns things from the Slovakian International during training.

Karl has a slight shoulder problem and sat out the game yesterday.

Dubravka can also play the sweeper role in goal and comes out for through balls and helps out the back four.

He also seems to be commanding in the air and looks very comfortable and very confident taking any crosses that come in the box.

That gives our other players confidence in their goalkeeper.

It’s going to be interesting to see if Darlow and Elliot are content to play second string to the Slovakian next season since both backup goalkeepers are keen to play.

It looks like Matz Sels will be sold this summer, so Rafa will need both Rob and Karl to back up Dubravka – and all three can improve their game training together.

And that’s exactly what Rafa wants to see.

Should Newcastle Sign Tom Cairney For £20M - If Available?

martoon, I hate to say it buddy, but you may need to give up your moniker for this guy here. I reckon he’ll be our number one for years to come.

I really don’t understand the logic of having an international break now for pre-tournament friendlies. Surely it would be more logical and sensible to miss this one out and finish the season earlier and have them leading into the tournament. There could be players injured now but available for the tournament and vica-versa so these friendlies will not tell the managers anything! There are players travelling 1000’s of miles to a round trip for a meaningless friendly – it’s crazy!!!

There’s nothing better for a defender who needs eyes in the back of his heed when he gets them by way of a gobby keeper lol.

A decent keeper notes the runs and habits of atracking players and keeps his back line alerted to possible movement or when someone tries to ghost in behind. I got the feeling Elliot was emailing his commands and Darlow had his mouth stitched up.

I just can not see anything in Barlaser even in u23 games. He does not run the game he should be the kingpin in that team. He hasnt broke into a poor Crewe team so how is he going to be good enough for premier league. It is even harder to make the grade in premier league only Fernandez has shown me he is a good prospect.

Nufc 4ever, I agree though am hoping to be proven wrong. There have been too many of our young players just fall by the wayside over the years – Blythe, Gateshead, South Shields are littered with them. Sad for the players, disappointing for us. Surely it will be a priority for the club going forward, producing home-grown players, even if only for resale like the Southampton model, just makes good, logical business sense.

It’s hard for any young player to get a chance in England unless they have olympian pace, stamina or most importantly strength. so you need to be a rashford, carrol or henderson type to get through. passing, technique, and footballing intelligence aren’t valued or given time to develop here. those traits take time and skillful coaching to develop compared to players who are simply fast or big and who can fulfil their potential by 18-20 yrs old. i said a year or so ago mo sangare was our best bet to come through yet by all accounts it sounds like he can barely control a ball but he’s strong and can run about. heaney seems to be a flair player and barlaser a passing type – they’ve got no chance. not commenting on whether they are talented enough as i don’t know, but one’s too small and the other is too weak which will limit their opportunities. i wonder if spain or brazil would write players off because of strength?

Rupert Pink is clearly someone’s idea of a jokey alter-ego comedy character. You can tell by the way he switches from OTT gay to OTT Geordie. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a dual account or whatever you call them, and I’ve never thought that about anybody.

off topic, was just perusing some older posts and saw one from Bladeuser after we got knocked out the FA Cup by Watford in 2016, shortly before Schteve McClown was fired. It went something along the lines of

Pleased to see the guy has at least been consistent with his criticism. Not sure who the SHEEP ? he was referring to were? Fans? Players? A sudden infestation of ovine mammals cluttering his living room?

In June 2010 when Rafa parted ways with
Liverpool one of the reasons cited was that
four months before Senor Benitez had paid
    £600,000 for a just turned 17 y.o. winger from
    QPR’s academy.

    Ridiculous they said.

    That player was Raheem Sterling
now the highest priced English player
    at £49million

Is that right, Jib? That suggests a high level of autonomy for Rafa in the transfer market, which I thought was one of the reasons why he left – ie he didn’t have enough autonomy. Frankly stunning statistic if true. Maybe Victor Fernandez will be our Sterling?

    From the BBC:
“Saturday Night Takeaway will not air this week as Ant McPartlin goes back into treatment”

Sad for the guy, if he carries on this way he’ll lose the public’s sympathy and his career will be over.

    Can anyone help?

This may be of interest to you. A friend of mine has two tickets in a corporate box for The Toon v Arsenal on 15th April. He paid £300 each, but he didn’t realise when he bought them months ago that it was going to be the same day as his wedding. If you are interested, he is looking for someone to take his place. It’s at the Civic Centre Registry Office in Newcastle at 1.30pm. The bride’s name is Molly, she’s 5’4″, about 8 stone, quite pretty, has her own income and is a really good cook.
