Newcastle Will Now Receive A Massive £125M From Premier League

Nick Harris of Sports Intelligence is estimating Newcastle United will get just over £125M – £5M more than 9th placed Leicester City.

That’s almost £80M more than we received last season with a Premier league parachute payment of £40M and a Championship payout of £7M.

We had written earlier today that it would be between £115M and £125M with a win meaning we’d be close to the £125M.

When Dubravka saved point blank to stop them from getting back in the game he turned to the crowd and waved his fists in the air to keep them behind the lads. Looking every bit like a player who wants to stay here.

Well done Ed – top effort this season hopefully we won’t see any of those weasels criticising the articles or your good self. Kudos for keeping the only serious NUFCblog going.

Great, Rafa will get at least a tenner to spend on transfers now. Makes me sick how it all just vanished into Ashley’s pockets.

Has anyone else noticed that are books are done by some dodgy two bit accountant that no one has ever heard off but everyone else uses Deloitte or PWCs or another reputable well known firm.

Can’t be a coincidence, just saying

I know Shelvey or Lascelles will probably win our player of the season and they are both worthy candidates but for me our fortunes changed when Diame turned from a donkey in to a destroyer of premier league midfields, his form has been absolutely brilliant since the turn of the year, as it was again today, thought he completely bossed it again. For me has to win the player of the season because his form has coincided with Shevley’s form improving, if Diame plays well, Shevley normally does as well

Here’s the thing, though….Ca$hley has pretty much zero financial incentive to spend any of that money on players, aside from trying to keep Rafa.

With our current squad, we finished on 44 points…..that’s 26 points below the guaranteed Europa League place (Chelsea in 5th, with 70 points).Given that each additional place higher in the table nets a club only $2-3 million, it makes very little business sense for Ca$hley to put a huge amount of money into the club this summer, since it’s not going make to much of a difference in the standings. Heck, given that we finished 11 points above the relegation zone with Rafa, Ca$hley may think that we could still avoid relegation without him.

Or to put it another way, even if a miracle were to happen and Ca$hley were to invest let’s say $50 million in the club, that might only result in us finishing a couple of places higher in the table next year, netting him only an additional $5-10 million. Not exactly the type of ROI a businessman like Ca$hley is looking for.

Reality sucks….but it’s still reality….the bottom line is that the supporters’ ambition for NUFC (to finish as high up the table as possible and win things) are largely in opposition to that of Ca$hley (to extract as much profit as possible from the club by reducing expenditures on players to the minimum necessary).
