Rafa’s Program Notes – End Of Season Message – We Have To Be Proud

Rafa has written his piece for the program for today’s final Premier League game of the season – against 5th top Chelsea, who were last season’s Premier League Champions.

Rafa has taken the opportunity to thank everybody at the club and also he thanks every single Newcastle fan and mentions how good a job members of his team have done behind the scenes.

Rafa Benitez – Newcastle’s proud manager

Rafa thinks that everybody connected with the club should be proud of what the team has achieved this season when it looked in mid-December we would be fighting relegation right up to this final game of the season.

This is what Rafa has said:

“I don’t know anyone who thought at the beginning of this season that we could finish near the top 10.”

“If things worked out differently we could have been going into this fixture under pressure to avoid relegation.”

“Fortunately we aren’t and we have to realize how important this group of players’ efforts have been in last 10 months.”

“It is important for us to keep the good memories we have taken from this season.”

“It has been a great one from a very professional group of players and along with the staff, fans, city, everyone has come together to get behind us.”

“We have to be proud of that.”

“I’d like to take the opportunity to thank every single fan who has supported the team all the members of my staff – coaching and medical staff – and everyone who has worked so hard behind the scenes.”

“I’d also like to thank the players for their commitment and passion.”

What we need is for Newcastle to win this game against Chelsea and finish in the top half of the table.

That’s also a tough task – but you never know – not with Newcastle.

Howay The Lads!!!

Most improved player without doubt Perez. Since Christmas he has taken his game to another level. Well done to him and greatly deserved.

Most important player of the season has to be Lascelles. Without him we’ve struggled, he’s been rock steady when he’s played and protected our goal difference superbly.

Best players of the season are joint Shelvey and Diame for me. I know Diame had a poor first half but second half made up for it and since they’ve partnered up they’ve been the best midfield performers in virtually every game, even those we’ve lost. they’ve propelled us forward dragged us through to get the wins we needed.

Special mentions go to Dubravka, Lejeune and Dummett who have all made a big impact.

Hands up by the beginning of this season I thought Perez had been found out. He’s still got some improving to do but his strength, work rate and distribution not to mention his eye for seeing gaps up front have improved remarkably this season. It was never going to be possible under the fine tutelage of our previous managerial and coaching incumbents.

Feel for Conte in his post match interview – getting a grilling and he looks as though he wants to melt into the floor.

Had a shocker this season really.

Now for the frustration of the transfer window. Ashley, please wake up and see sense.

We may be punished for our poor finishing in the 2nd half once Chelsea shift gears. I still say we will lose 5 in a row to end our season.

    Newcastle 1 Chelsea 2.

No idea what point there is to a “supporter” like this. He’s like a blog morale neutron bomb.

Most consistent player of this season, hands down Paul Dummett. In a team that is focused around spending the majority of time soaking up pressure he has very rarely put a foot wrong. Love him!

Perez has always found gaps, his awareness of space and anticipiation of events has been evident from the get-go and his smart 1 touch finishing has always been there, it’s the (simple) passing and decision making that lets him down at times as he’s trying to adapt to being a no10 whilst also defending hard from the front.

Hail he’s always been willing to make runs forward but I think he has been hampered by being further out from the box and seemingly deferring to our main “strikers”. I think Benitez has definitely worked him forward and increased his awareness hence he loses the ball less and releases quicker these days. Up to last season you rarely sawhim trouble the penalty area.one evidence of planting him forward has been those Shelvey corner set pieces to the near post.

Ben I’ve noticed Perez’s strength has improved quite a bit. Have a watch of him again and you’ll see he’s become pretty adept at shoulder barges lately! He absolutely without doubt stays upright more and he’s no pushover these days.

Smashing season all round. Top 10 finish with a Championship squad we need to build on it now though and Rafa needs control, the money will be there but we need to move fast which currently we are incapable of whilst Ashley rules but time to enjoy the world cup now and let what ever will be with Newcastle be…

Nice little end to the relegation fight though

It’s been a strange season. Started well, huge hole in the middle as we worked though a crisis or two, then rock solid run in where we looked like a top half mainstay. I don’t think we should be compared to Brighton and Huddersfield. They did well to get into the pl and stay up. We always belonged here.

It’s vital we need to keep benitez to progress. If Ashley doesn’t do all his can do keep rafa, he should be shot.

    Good day to you.

“The only two teams to finish in the top half of the table during their debut campaign after promotion in the last decade are Birmingham City – who ended the 2009/10 campaign in ninth place – and West Ham United, who were 10th in 2012/13.

“Given that only two newly-promoted teams have achieved such a lofty finish over the past decade, that helps place into context how magnificent this season has been for Newcastle.” (Chronicle)

Never heard any commentary today and looking forward to MoTD, which’ll no doubt be slavering over the bindippers and Sperz then give us about two minutes of whatever times left.

Apart from cheering the lads on, how were the crowd towards our beloved and absent owner and his henchmen, Barnes and Bishop? Frightened to turn up were they? Just like the cowardly bustards to leave Charnley to take any if any hostility. Speaking of which, were there any vocal or flagged messages for Ashley and his partners in crime?

Now to find a Demba Ba type ST this summer. Rafa would love him, exactly what we need – an all-rounder that is mobile, works hard, can get physical, run in behind, header and of course finish.

In fact i’m sure Rafa signed him in his brief time at Chelsea from us.

Benitez has been making comments all season about how players have to learn to play intelligently and be aware of their roles and to think about the game. Diame clicked and became this midfield dismantler. Shelvey had the penny drop and he channeled his game to absolutely carve teams up and cut down our work rate in midfield no end. You could pick out any player on the pitch and see a refinement that has benefitted the whole team.
