Chancel Mbemba just doesn’t seem to fit in at Newcastle under Rafa Benitez, and that’s a pity because he’s a good defender who can play anywhere across the back four and in defensive midfield too.
But apart from a run at left back while Paul Dummett was injured last season he hasn’t played much for the side since we returned to the Premier League.
He often hasn’t even made the squad.
The Chronicle are reporting that Bundesliga side Hoffenheim have expressed an interest in signing him, and that could offer an excellent opportunity for the DR Congo International.
Chancel Mbemba – Hoffenheim now interested
Hoffenheim finished third in the Bundesliga last season behind only Bayern Munich and Schalke and had a better goal difference than Bayer and Borussia Dortmund – all on 55 points.
There is interest in the defender, and last week there were reports that his former club Anderlecht were interested in taking him back.
Glasgow Celtic have also been linked with the defender.
Julian Nagelsmann has been the Hoffenheim manager for two years now, and he’s still only 30 years old.
When he started at the German club, he became the youngest manager ever in the Bundesliga, and he is now one of the youngest managers in the game.
His playing career ended in his teens with a severe knee injury.
Chancel is keen to get his career on track and is interested in finding a club in one of Europe’s top leagues.
Hoffenheim would seem to be an excellent destination for the likable young man, but we’ll be sorry to see him leave.

His thesis project looks at Premier League fans’ team identification – how well they support and identify with their team.
Jack has put together a relatively short questionnaire of team identification and satisfaction with life; it should take no longer than 10 minutes.
