Alan Shearer has said once again that he wouldn’t blame Rafa Benitez if he simply walked out on Newcastle and say to the fans that he cannot put up with not being backed anymore.
Mike Ashley has not supported him over the last three transfer windows although in January after talking with Rafa he did agree to bring in three loan players to (kind of) help out.
Two of Rafa’s top choices – Kenedy and Martin Dubravka- were huge successes and helped us survive in the Premier League.
Rafa hopes to sign both players in the summer but it’s doubtful we can get the young Brazilian U23 International Kenedy back on Tyneside.
Alan Shearer blasts Ashley – but Rafa can make Newcastle into a £600M club in two years
We were forced to sign Leicester City Islam Slimani when he was injured and maybe because of the thigh injury he didn’t have a good time of it on Tyneside.
Alan Shearer has been speaking to the Magpie Channel on Youtube and here’s some of what he said:
“No one can blame him if he turned around to Newcastle fans and said ‘I can’t put up with this anymore’. We’ll probably say, ‘You know what, we don’t blame him’.”
“He needs backing. He needs assurances.” “Hopefully he’ll get that because he has done an incredible job this year with what I believe is very limited resources.”
“Why would Mike suddenly say ‘I’ll give you so much money?’ He said it last season – ‘you can have every single penny the club generates, you can have to spend.”
“”But that was a load of rubbish and didn’t happen.”
“I think Rafa has made him four or five million in the transfer market net in the time he’s been here which has been incredible.”
“Michael Owen is still our highest transfer, which when you look around at Brighton, Bournemouth, Huddersfield and all these other football clubs which have been in the Championship, and come back up.”
“We get 52,000 here every single week, one of the best-supported teams around, then yes, he will have the same issues next season if he decides to stay here.”
“Rafa has done a magnificent job in very very difficult circumstances.”
Rafa has spent wisely in the transfer market and maybe he has made Ashley £5M.
But making money on transfers is maybe not the best way to look at it.
The big picture is since December after Newcastle’s fantastic comeback from possible relegation to finishing 10th in the Premier has probably made Mike Ashley as much as £100M in the price of the Newcastle club.
And even before that Rafa had us immediately promoted to the Premier League which increased the value of Newcastle United FC.
Maybe it’s not as much as £100M since December, although Ashley raised the price from £300M to £400M in that period, but it’s at least £50M for a club that was struggling to survive in December.
So to answer Alan’s question – why would Ashley give Rafa big money to spend now?
To make Newcastle into a top club worth a lot more than £400M in two years time.
That’s how Mike Ashley can make a big profit on Newcastle and we could be a £600M club in the summer of 2020 with sufficient investment coming from the owner now.
But we are completely mystified why Ashley doesn’t invest in the short-term and sell the club in a couple of years time.
What do you think?
