Report – Benitez Linked With Move For £11M Rated Italian Central Defender

Rafa Benitez is reported by the Italian press to be interested in signing Gian Marco Ferrari, who plays for Sassuolo.

Ferrari joined Sampdoria last season on a season-long loan deal and had an excellent season playing 31 times with two goals on loan.

Calciomercato.it is reporting the 26-year-old center-back is interesting Newcastle and we will need to sign another central defender if Chancel Mbemba leaves us this summer after three years on Tyneside.

He is said to have agreed personal terms to return to Anderlecht although no fee has yet been agreed between the clubs.

Gian Marco Ferrari was born in Parma, and has played for several Italian clubs (9 clubs in total) in his career.

He started at his hometown club Parma and in 2013 moved to Gubbio where he stayed for one year before returning to Parma.

Ferrari moved to Crotone one year later and then to Sassuolo in 2016.

26-year-old Gian Marco Ferrari – Italian defender

He has been on loan at many clubs including lower league Italian clubs like Monticelli Terme, Crociati Noceto, Fiorenzuolaand, and Renate.

Premier League club Fulham are also reported to be interested in signing the 6ft 2ins tall defender.

Sampdoria Chairman Massimo Ferrero is reported to have an option to buy the Italian defender for €13M (£11.2M) as part of the loan contract but is trying to get a reduction on that fee.

Best of luck with that.

The player has certainly moved around a lot in his short career and in total has played 175 first team games with 8 goals and 14 assists.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

Nicky, don’t want him to attend mate. Just as soon forget he exists. Just want him to sign the contract and then never hear from him again. Until he announces he’s sold the club.

I think he’d like to though Bobby. So potentially finding a way for him to attend games again will surely be part of the talks.

Anyone who says we should accept what we get or 2nd 3rd or 4th choice should shoot themselves now.

That’s not very friendly, is it? Rafa has a list of players for a reason. If we have to take our 3rd choice in some positions then so be it. I’m sure we’ll still see an incremental improvement in the team. I feel sure Rafa and all of us would prefer the first choice every time but you can’t always get what you want. Even if you’re Mick Jagger

Lyndon Johnson, talking about J. Edgar Hoover springs to mind: “Better to have him inside the tent pissing out, than outside pissing in”.

I’d ideally prefer a more cordial relationship between the pair, with both on board pulling in the same direction. Ashley attending games with Rafa in situ can only be good for the club in this regard, assuming there won’t be a sale anytime soon.

    People throwing around names today.

As an Mbemba replacement I’d like us to try for Kongolo who was on loan at Huddersfield 2nd half of the season from Monaco, if not permanent another loan. Was excellent at LB when we came up against him and he can play centrally too, good stature.

“”Karl Darlow is holding talks with the club, hoping to get a new deal that would extend the expiration date on his contract, which currently runs to 2020.””

Could be good idea to keep him at the club, loan him to Leeds for the season whilst Elliots contract runs down.

The Danish winger Pione Sisto who plays for Celta Vigo is a really good prospect.

    https://youtu.be/GdUGHn75lTc

The Celta Vigo striker Maxi Gómez would potentilly be a better option than the Dutch guy we were linked to in January. Both players are still young but difficult to establish if they would be available and price.

    Lindisfarne,
Woodman needs to be at a Champo club getting top flight experience. Unless they’re bringing in another keeper why send Darlow out on loan.

I like the idea of Darlow staying here and learning from Dubravka any way. It seems Rafa watches most games of football, he would have most definitely seen the match against the mackems and Defoe’s wonder goal, the way Krul laughed and joked with him at half time which became a talking point for the pundits is that why Rafa immediately got shot of him.

Mbabu is an exceptionally fine athlete and physical specimen. Smart to put buy back clauses in good young players contracts if you are letting them go, because so very few players are ready for the Newcastle first team until they’ve had 3,4,5,6 years first team experience in junior leagues. Mbabu needed first team football, but physically he was an epl player three years ago, and he is also a sufficiently talented player. He comes back with two years first team experience in Switzerland and ready to push and challenge Yedlin to start at right back.

    You wee tinker
I said he spoke Italian (badly)
    Had good Latin
so it’s a knocking bet that although
he didn’t speak Spanish he would certainly
understand most of what was said to him.

But hey ! why let the truth get in the way of a good pop

That comment about Krul laughing with Defoe at half-time
at the SoL shows you really are a Johnny-come-lately to footy.

Do you honestly believe that a striker born
in the East end of London who plays for Sunderland
for a couple of seasons at the end of his career and
a GK born in Holland get involved in the tribalism and hatred
    the same as fans.
They both lived in Darras Hall at the time
    They probably soaialised
    and then
    to add the statement
    that
Rafa got rid of Krul because he saw it !!!!
    gimme a break
