Rafa Benitez will bring in at least one striker this summer as Newcastle have put a £30M transfer fee on the head of Aleksandar Mitrovic.
The Slovakian International striker was brilliant for Fulham this year son loan coring 12 goals in 20 appearances for the Cottagers.
And he helped them get promotion to the Premier League by the playoffs beating Aston Villa 1-0 in the final at Wembley last Saturday.
With Dwight Gayle’s overall play much improved this year, even though he scored only 6 Premier League goals last season, it seems as though Rafa will keep the striker for next season.
There’s news in the Mirror that West Brom striker Salomon Rondon is available, but Rondon is not a prolific goalscorer.
Salomon Rondon being fouled by DeAndre Yedlin last season
In three years at West Brom, he scored only 28 goals and had 10 assists in 120 total appearances.
Rafa will be looking for somebody better than Rondon to bring in, although it will not be Algerian International Islam Slimani who was underwhelming during his loan spell at Newcastle this year.
Rondon – capped 66 times by Venezuela (20 goals) – is available for £16M.
The Mirror is reporting that West Ham, Tottenham, and Chelsea are all interested and doesn’t mention Newcastle.
Maybe Rafa’s top striker target will still be 27-year-old Danish International Nicolai Jorgensen
who plays for Feyenoord.
Rafa may go back for the 27-year-old and pay up to £20M to bring the Danish forward to Tyneside and finally break our transfer record.
It stands at only £17M which we paid Real Madrid for Michel Owen 13 years ago.
Surely it will be broken this summer?
What do you think?
