Rafa Benitez Looking At These Two Central Defenders

Rafa Benitez is looking to bring in a right back and center-back this summer to help strengthen the Newcastle defense.

While we did quite well defensively last season conceding 47 goals in 38 league games, Rafa wants that number down and he has built his top teams on solid defenses in the past.

With Chancel Mbemba leaving the club this summer Rafa is looking to bring in a center-back, and we have recently been linked with both 22-year-old Young Boys defender Kasim Nuhu and 26-year-old Sassuolo center-back Gian Marco Ferrari.

Whoever is brought in will have to battle for a first-team starting position with captain Jamaal Lascelles, Frenchman Florian Lejeune, and Ciaran Clark.

Rafa is said to be looking at different options in defense, and one of those could be to use three at the back on occasion.

Nuhu is said to be available for £8M and Ferrari is reported to be worth around £11M.

After signing talented goalkeeper Martin Dubravka for only £4M, the Chronicle reported the manager was now hard at work on his second summer signing.

Maybe it will be one of these center-backs?

We would prefer 6ft 3ins tall Kasim Nuhu because of his age, and Rafa could develop him into a top center-back while at Newcastle.

The manager would like at least four new signings in his starting eleven when the Premier League kicks off next season on August 11th.

He currently has one in Dubravka.

What do you think?

I’d be surprised if we get 30m for Mitrovic. Everybody knows we don’t want him. Mind you, if Grealish is worth 40m then who knows.

I’m pretty sure rafa would want more than 4 new signings..(I know you said at least)…. in fact that would be a disastrous summer Given he wants to be competitive on all fronts.

For me rafa will only be content with A right back, centre back, defensive midfielder, left winger, number 10 and 2 strikers. If given the opportunity I think he’d go further than that.

Here we go again. Continually reducing the quantity of new signings needed is like deja vu. At the beginning of every close season we say we really need six or seven new signings and week by week it comes down gradually.
We’ve only just finished the season and Ed already reckons we need only four.
Come on man. We need TWO new strikers, a winger, a midfield playmaker, another central defender, at least one if not two back up (or first team) full backs as well as the signing of Dubravka.
The strikers and playmaker would cost the most between them but the sales of Mitrovich, Gayle, Merino and possibly one of our keepers would pay for them. The further sales of Sels, MBemba, Colback, Saivet, Haidara and possibly Armstrong would help towards the rest.
And that’s without new investment. Something which would please our tight owner no end.

Wynsleap you reckon we should sell Merino? I personally think this first season was just a beginning and he could become a great player for us.
