We’re Delighted To Be Playing A Side of The Caliber Of Newcastle United

Newcastle will play their first friendly of the season in Ireland while the lads are at Carton House in July.

Newcastle will play St Patrick’s Athletic on Tuesday 17th July when the Ireland club will be in the middle of their season.

They are currently in 5th position in the League of Ireland Premier League with Dundalk currently in first place.

St. Patrick’s manager Liam Buckley

Here are their current league standings.

St. Patrick’s manager Liam Buckley is delighted to be able to play a Premier League club:

“We are all delighted to be in a position to welcome Newcastle United to Richmond Park.”

“We understand that Rafael Benitez will be preparing his side ahead of the beginning of their season in August.”

“So we know they will be looking for a good test of their fitness and match sharpness.”

“From our side of things, we are delighted to play a top opposition and test ourselves against them as we look to stay sharp in the middle of our own season.”

“It’s great for the local area of Inchicore too (it’s a suburb of Dublin) that a side of the caliber of Newcastle United are going to be playing.”

“So we are looking forward to hopefully seeing a big crowd in Richmond Park.”

Preseason training starts four weeks tomorrow on July 2nd and Rafa has got his wish again for the third summer running.

The lads will train at Carton House in County Kildare where Rafa has plenty of time to prepare the team for another tough upcoming Premier League season.

We have four preseason fixtures already arranged and expect one or two more to be announced shortly.

So things are starting to happen – now we need a couple of new players brought through the door and get the manager signed up to that new contract.

Comments welcome.

“Keep your shirt on”, haha. Interesting saying. I suppose it refers to stripping to the waist in readiness for fisticuffs.

I’m pretty sure when I read about Celtics seating that they gained no extra space.

If they do allow Rail seating I wouldn’t want more people standing in the places already allocated to seating.

I’m 6′ 3″ and quite broad, there’s quite a few larger chaps than me, when you stand during times of excitement there can be quite a lot of bouncing off each other and people spill onto the stairs to stop falling over each other.

This is even worse in the winter when people have big coats on.

Im all for safe standing but i dont think allowing more people in would make it safe. One for one is ok, put more in and you’re asking for trouble.

Erik Pieters stayed in Odense for the birth
    of his child last night.
Denmark played a dull 0-0 draw in Stockholm
    Jorgensen was crap
The Danes better pray their Tottenham playmaker
stays healthy – they have no chance in Russia without him

Who’s going to be allowed in Safe standing.

Women kids and little old men don’t like sitting next to me, doubt they’d want to stand next to me after several shandys whilst I’m seat ing line a tree.

Our wage structure does seriously hinder us but I would think when we get a fine tuned squad without the many a hangers on that we have on good salaries and the squad is trimmed to what’s needed I think that will see the wage structure hopefully updated

Can’t see us going for Wiltshire, he’s free but unless he’s takes a pay as you play and 50% pay cut Ashleys having none of it.

Well Dubravka is a bargain but if you keep shoping in poundstrechers you will get what you pay for. We will never compete until fat man sells up some time never. We can never look up Staveley with a supposed 28 billion behind her was a load of rubbish when 1 footballer can be sold for 200 million how on hell can this club not go for 350. We will lose the best manager we could ever get through the greedy owner Rafa will not sign another contract he will honour this one then go.

Mike…Jørgensen is a physical and tall presence that fits well into a side that wants to play football, be in control or play a little more direct on the counter.

Probably why he fits well into both the Danish and Dutch kind of football!

Don’t think he would fit our brand one minute…

Sorry if it has already been said by someone here lads but Mikel Merino absolutely must NOT be sold.

He has shown at 21 what nobody has shown for us at the age of 21 in so many years. Class player with the ability to dribble past players and play great through ball passes. I don’t know why Rafa didn’t try him in the No. 10 role once safety was secured last season.

To me he is a No. 10 player and if we buy a top quality CDM (to partner next to Shelvey) – someone like William Carvalho – then a midfield 3 of Shelvey – Carvalho (e.g.) and Merino would be definitely top 8 worthy.

Add to that a top class striker with kenedy and another top class winger on the flanks and that is a very dangerous team.

    Jesper,

I have high expectations for Murphy, Merino, Yedlin (if he keeps the rate of improvement he is showing in defense), lascelles, atsu (I still think he can improve, raw pace is hard to come by), Perez, Mitro (I’m expecting him to move on and show us ‘the bird’ in years to come), shelvey, Ritchie, diame (as of the back end of last season), Dummett, Lejeune and also Armstrong. I think that’s the core of the side we have, I wouldn’t shed many tears for the rest moving on in all honesty.

*Caveat… I may have missed 1 or 2 but you get the gist!

The whole point of safe standing is – you decide. If you’re three foot ten then standing is probably not for you. You have the alternative of sitting.
Safe standing would only be for those who like to sing and jump around. They would not be compulsory. One section would probably the best we could hope for, but that one section could increase the atmosphere by quite a margin.
I wouldn’t use it myself, for obvious reasons, but I’m certainly behind those who would.
If you read the bumf, it would, without question, increase capacity as well.
EG. If they made Level Seven safe standing and implemented how it is described in the link I posted, that would add roughly another 8000 to the crowd. There’s a capacity already increased to 60k.
It won’t effect me personally either way. Got my ST and have no intention of giving it up, but should we become reasonably successful then that’s another 8000 who could attend.
Just from the amount of people on the last Sunday who were trying to buy tickets outside the ground, the need is there.

    Bobby,

Would the Gallowgate be a good place to put safe standing again going from your past experiences of standing at SJP? Would it not intimidate the bejaysus outta teams?

Level 7 jeez, if we beat the mackems 5-1 again (or a similarly exciting match) and they had safe standing in level 7 it would be raining pi55ed toon fans by half time.

Instead of Rail seating why don’t they just have one stand Like a giant soft play.

The things the kids go to where it’s all 2ft thick foam.. just pile thousands in, let them bounce all over, throw in a couple trampolines..

    It’s a winner I guarantee

    OP

That reminds me of the slide idea that hit the media for getting out of SJP quickly on matchdays… Wasn’t that an Ashley idea? Never got going though haha

I thought that Ozyakup lad was out of contract or was that another Turkish descent player from Germany maybe? I’m confused by the links already, maybe the heat!!!

Ozyakup is out of contract this summer – not sure about these rumours of bids unless we are competing with other clubs and are buying just before his contract expires. Top player – would love us to sign him
