Jack Colback could bring in a decent £5M in this summer’s transfer market if we can sell him.
After being involved in a training altercation with Rafa Benitez last August the local lad has no future at the club.
He was already training with the U23 squad when one of our first players picked up a knock, and Rafa wanted Jack to fill in for him – but he refused.
That was it on Jack Colback – you don’t say no to Rafa Benitez when he makes a reasonable request in training.
Jack Colback wants to be on Newcastle’s books until next summer
Jack signed on as a free agent from Sunderland in the summer of 2014 on a five-year deal, and he seems determined to become a free agent again next summer.
Nottingham Forst and other clubs are interested in buying him, but a barrier to that are his £40K/week wages.
And that’s also a reason why Jack wants to remain a Newcastle player for another year.
Rafa may try to force the issue since it does mean around £5M for his transfer coffers.
We will have to see what happens but it seems Jack would be happy enough to go on loan again.
That could possibly mean a return to Nottingham Forest on loan to see out the last year of his lucrative contract at Newcastle.
We’ll have to wait and see what happens but all transfers have to be completed by Thursday, August 9 since the Premier League starts on the following weekend.
The Premier League fixtures are to be released this Thursday.

Comment #2Is that 3 million in transfer fees plus 2 million saved not paying his wages? Be lucky to get 3 million in the first place

Comment #3Sick of mitro talk.. hes lethal against lesser standard players.. goals against China, Bolivia..christ we’ll all be going mad when he nets 5 against the falklands islands or an Arctic ix… Hes done very very little in a newcastle shirt to warrant some of the adulation and you’ll find a fair few goals he has got haven’t been game deciding goals when the pressures been up (unlike someone like Ritchie)
If we get 20m+ for him il gladly see him on his way to be honest

Comment #4I’m sure Mitro has only two years left on his contract, so unless he signs another one I can see him going.

Comment #5On Lozano..it was clear from when he was age 17 the path he was on.. PSV took the gamble and it’ll pay off, but at 25/30m there is no reason why with rafa at the helm we couldn’t convince him this was a good move if the club had any ambition..
I think more so for value, places like Mexico, the Brazilian league etc need be looked at.. Richarlison and Kenedy have both shown you can come to england from Brazil and adapt. If we can’t buy world stars the next step should be buying future world stars and developing them

But I guess the saying is true, you can only beat what’s put in front of you. Bolivia are what they are but it’s not like every striker that comes up against them nets a hatrick.
He’s scored big goals in the past and even for us at times, Sunderland equaliser comes to mind straight away.
If Rafa wants him out then that’s fine and hope we get the biggest fee we can get for him. It must be £20m minimum. Still think it’ll come back to haunt us.
I see it like if mitro had just had the season he had and we were about to sign him, most fans would see it as a coup. The fact we bought him as a raw 20 year is still seemingly held against him because he was far from the finished article. He is developing and improving and that’s all you can ask for from younger players.

Comment #7I’m of an open mind with Mitro. I can honestly believe that Rafa gave him a run in the team because he was the only fit, decent, recognised striker at the club when he first arrived. Mitro then let him down a couple of times so he knew he couldn’t trust him. That’s not to say Rafa will never trust him again, just that at that point in his career he was too hotheaded. Rafa has dealt with enough young players to know that responsibility is something that develops over time, just not necessarily in the first team during a season as crucial to NUFC as the last two have been. I think there’s a way back for the lad and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him as the main striker next season. Nor would I be surprised to see him sold.

Comment #8@ronaldo – agree with you, interestingly for all the goals he scored, i found Fulham fans, especially on social media aren’t thinking hes worth the money.. I think hes interesting, annoyingly he’s the exact type of centre forward Pardew was shouting for for 4 years and ive no doubt hes going to go on and have a decent career.. just cant see it being at Newcastle

Comment #9I would imagine Mitro will now be with his squad going to the WC in the next day or two so I can’t see anything happening now. Ideally after the WC I would like to see Rafa & Mitro sit down together and thrash out their differences and Rafa say show me what you can do and if it is not working out he could go in the January window. However realistically I think there is no way back for Mitro and Rafa needs to sell him to fund incoming transfers!

Comment #10The gamble with selling now or keeping Mitro is a two edged sword….. We could hang on for a much better price and get it or he could suffer a bad injury during the World Cup and get next to nowt for him….. I think I’d be temped to sell him now – what’s that they say about a bird in the hand! 🙂

Comment #12Here’s a true story for you. During the 1966 World Cup, Russia was training at maiden castle sports centre just outside Durham, another team was training at Houghal which was just across the road ( can’t remember what team it was) anyway, their national flag was much larger in size than the Russians so a request for a bigger flag was made. After flying the flag with pride and getting one over on the team over the road it was stolen so they had to revert to the smaller one. The Russians believed it had to be nicked by the team across the road and the was some bad feeling between the two national teams.
a couple of years later whilst visiting my wife’s uncle farm, he produced the said flag, walking into the room with it draped over him. We were all sworn to secrecy. So even though it was reported in the papers we all kept it quiet.
Why am I deciding to tell the story now, the flag was handed back a few weeks back as reported in the northern echo. My wife uncle who is fairly old by now or may have died as they weren’t very close, has returned it.
If Jib is about perhaps he could locate the northern echo report as I have no idea how.

Comment #13Any substance to this chat or just more gossip ?
The hyper-reliable La Voix du Nord report today that Premier League side Newcastle United have had an opening bid for Lille midfielder Thiago Maia rejected.
The 21-year-old was bought by LOSC last summer for €14m.

Nice story, mentions no names but does suggest the guy is a little lonely – he says he has nobody to pass the flag on to.

Comment #22I think we take what we can for mitro and hopefully it’s enough to buy Kennedy. That puts our squad back to where we finished without spending too much. With Kennedy on board we then need a mobile striker say 30m partly funded by Gayle 12m leaving about 25m for a number 10. Easy innit..

Comment #23Valon berisha fee reportedly agreed to sampdoria for 7m with another million in bonus. Not sure if this is in pounds or euros but is a bargain either way. We’ve supposedly tracked him for years and had numerous scouting visits this seasons so so should be a no brainer. Fill our number 10 issues and his style would fit into our team comfortably.

Comment #31Welshie which club? You need to narrow it down a bit. Are you talking about NUFC the Premier League club managed by Rafa Benitez with average home attendances of 50,000, or SWFC the hopelessly tailspinning Championship flounderers with average gates of two bus loads and managed by a potato?

Comment #32Couldn’t agree more with what robleenio said earlier about mitrovic… neither outcome suprises me. We either have a better centre forward then this season or we sell him and provided funds are given to rafa if we signed Kennedy with the money I wouldn’t be particularly bothered about him leaving
Big fan of mitro watched him away to wba this season and when he come on was our most dangerous player by a country mile

Whether mitro stays or goes, we’ll see. I’m accepting rafa’s decision either way. But you say he is only good against lesser sides. I’d counter that his record against spurs is quite good. 2 goals and an assist i think. And he and perez pretty much won the game for us at three point lane in his first season with us.
